After hitting box office chart when it was released in March, one of the cast members thinks "Race to Witch Mountain" deserves to get a sequel treatment. In a press junket at the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles to promote his upcoming film "Planet 51", Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock, the depicter of Jack Bruno in the Walt Disney's adventure movie, has talked about the future of the film.
"Great success breeds a lot of things, including sequels. The storyline was set up for a sequel, so we'll see," The Rock said. However, he cannot speak further about the possible second "Race to Witch Mountain" film as the actor himself is "not quite too sure" about it. "I'm not ruling it out. I just can't speak to it because I don't know. I haven't spoken to any of the guys up at Disney about it," he added.

Chicago – “Race to Witch Mountain,” now on Blu-Ray and DVD, is a head-scratcher, a movie with more than enough individual elements that should work but proof that a film is not just the sum of its parts. Dwayne Johnson is charismatic, AnnaSophia Robb is one of the better young actresses working today, Carla Gugino is always good, and the source material is beloved, but “Race to Witch Mountain” is a mess that never connects with its target audience or their parents.
Blu-Ray Rating: 2.0/5.0 The plot of “Race to Witch Mountain” is simple. A pair of aliens who look like teenagers (AnnaSophia Robb, Alexander Ludwig) crash land near Las Vegas. While they’re being chased by an alien bounty hunter and a group of human men in black (including Ciaran Hinds, Chris Marquette, and Tom Everett Scott), they stumble into the life of a cab driver (Johnson) and a scientist (Gugino »

Carla Gugino talks about working in this new Disney remake
Carla Gugino is just part of the all-star cast that made up Race to Witch Mountain, which hits the shelves on DVD and Blu-ray/DVD combo pack today, August 4. Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has passed along a brief chat with Gugino talking about her role in the film, and here's what she had to say.
What attracted you to Race to Witch Mountain?
Carla Gugino: For starters, I was a big fan of the original films. I had a motor home for many years as a kid, so I always related to the children in the original movie - although I didn't really relate to the alien part of their life. I thought the script was really good. Plus, I'm a big fan of [director] Andy Fickman, so when we sat down to talk about it, I decided we »

Just as Return From Witch Mountain lost a little of the magic that made the original Escape to Witch Mountain so special, the series continues to atrophy with the third entry in the conceptual story with Race to Witch Mountain. Escape to Witch Mountain shrouded its story in mystery by keeping the children’s history concealed from both the antagonists, the audience and the children themselves. The film as a whole was a testament to discovering identity, a feat which Return From Witch Mountain couldn’t quite replicate as it became nothing but a film to demonstrate how good Disney had become at its cable-based stunt work. So what benchmark does that leave for Disney to score with Race to Witch Mountain?
Whatever it is, Disney definitely doesn’t quite achieve it.
Jack Bruno (Dwayne Johnson) drives a taxi cab in Las Vegas and, in doing so, meets a lot of interesting people. »

The new child stars of the Disney remake talks about the new film, working with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and future films
Walt Disney Studios relived their 1975 classic Escape to Witch Mountain with a new modern-day spin in the popular remake Race to Witch Mountain, which hits the shelves on DVD and a Blu-ray/DVD combo set on August 4. This new remake got a revamped cast with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Carla Gugino and even the grown-up child stars of the original film, Kim Richards and Ike Eisenmann. Of course, the new film also needed new child stars which they got in the wonderful combination of AnnaSophia Robb and Alexander Ludwig, who portray the alien siblings Sara and Seth. I had the chance to speak with Robb and Ludwig over the phone recently about their new film on DVD and Bd, and here's what they had to say.
So, first of all, »

The first time Alexander Ludwig was confronted by the forces of darkness he was in Romania filming the adventure flick The Seeker: The Dark is Rising (2007) against the backdrop of the economically beleaguered country’s gray, industrial landscape. For a kid from bright West Vancouver, Canada, the experience was akin to plunging headfirst into icy water. “It was eye-opening,” says the 16-year-old Ludwig. “There were times when it felt really dangerous.” Which made the conditions surrounding Ludwig’s next film, Race to Witch Mountain—Disney’s new reimagining of the cultish (and slightly creepy) mid-’70s classic Escape to Witch Mountain—seem all the more surreal. »

Race to Witch Mountain Directed by: Andy Fickman Written by: Matt Lopez and Mark Bomback (screenplay), Matt Lopez (screen story), Alexander Key (book) Starring: Dwayne Johnson, Carla Gugino, AnnaSophia Robb, Alexander Ludwig This race runs on two tracks – one wins, one doesn’t. You really have to watch Race to Witch Mountain with both eyes. One to see the movie that was made for an audience of tweenies. The other to judge the movie against an average director’s competency scale. Somewhat schizophrenic I admit but you know Film Junk always takes the big risks for its readers. Let me say right up front that I enjoyed both movies but one more than the other. With my one eye, I saw a film that could be enjoyed by anyone from 8 -14. It portrays two ingratiating teens that are both heroes and aliens. (Perhaps someone like that lives with you). A »

Quickcard Review Race to Witch Mountain Directed by: Andy Fickman Cast: Dwayne Johnson, AnnaSophia Robb, Alexander Ludwig, Carla Gugino Running Time: 1 hr 40 mins Rating: PG Click here to read Nick Allen's complete scorecard review Plot: A Las Vegas cab driver (Johnson) assists two alien teenagers (Robb, Ludwig) in retrieving their space ship which is being guarded deep beneath Witch Mountain. Who’s It For? I'm not sure what makes this a family film. My niece and nephew saw it opening weekend and said, "It had a lot of action." That's it. That's what made it good. Which continues my theory ... kids will sit through anything in the theater and think it's good. Overall We used to be able to smell what the rock was cooking. But alas no more. It’s the kind of movie that’s chock full of too many rote car chases and bad guys who spout clichés like “I could have had you shot just for trespassing on U.S. government property” as if they want you to shout out the inevitable followup question: “So why didn’t you?” And still you can’t utterly condemn Race to Witch Mountain, because it’s even as it’s completely generic and doesn’t really do much justice to its progenitors (I plan to review the original Escape to Witch Mountain and its sequel, Return From Witch Mountain this week), it is, at least, a kids’ movie that doesn’t resort to even a single fart joke and doesn’t talk down to its young audience. Alas that that sets it apart in the current movie environment, but it does. Dwayne Johnson (Get Smart) -- we’re »

Our thoughts: Disney’s remake “Race to Witch Mountain” is a lot of things, but it certainly isn’t as dreadful as I originally thought. The film is by no means a masterpiece or even a must-see, but it’s got a bunch of qualities I admit I enjoyed experiencing. »

Let’s face it, science fiction movies don’t open every week at the box office. You’ll be lucky to get two in a month in some cases. So I thought I’d do a weekly “Sci-Fi at the Movies” column every Friday when there is a sci-fi or fantasy movie opening in the week. We’ll start out with the week of March 13, 2009, which sees only one sci-fi release, The Rock’s “Race to Witch Mountain”. The Race to Witch Mountain (March 13, 2009) A taxi driver gets more than get bargained for when he picks up two teen runaways. Not only does the pair possess supernatural powers, but they’re also trying desperately to escape people who have made them their targets. Starring: Dwayne Johnson, Ciaran Hinds, Anna-Sophia Robb, Alexander Ludwig, Carla Gugino Directed by: Andy Fickman Click Here for more information on the movie, including our previous news articles and stills. »
