Duncan Jones is back with a brand new project titled Rogue Trooper, an animated adaptation of the same-titled comic book from 2000 Ad.
Variety reports, “The animated film, which is being created with Epic’s 3D tool Unreal Engine 5, was adapted by Jones from the comic book published by 2000 Ad.
“Rogue Trooper, produced by Rebellion and Liberty Films, has wrapped principal photography at Rebellion Film Studios in the U.K. The film is set to be finished next year.”
“Rogue Trooper tells the story of 19, a “Genetic Infantryman,” who finds himself the sole-survivor of an invasion force. Desperate to track down the traitor who sold him and his comrades out, the super soldier is accompanied by three killed-in-action squad mates, whose personalities have been stored in his gun, helmet and rucksack.”
Aneurin Barnard, Hayley Atwell, Jack Lowden, Daryl McCormack and Reece Shearsmith are attached to star, with Variety noting that Barnard will play the title character.

Hayley Atwell has reportedly joined the cast of director Duncan Jones’ animated Rogue Trooper movie, based on the 2000 Ad comic strip of the same name. It’s even wrapped filming!
Word that Moon and Source Code director Duncan Jones was attached to a film adaptation of the 2000 Ad comic strip Rogue Trooper first broke over five years ago, before the world descended into a maelstrom of global disease, military invasions and AI-driven societal collapse – exactly the sort of dystopian stuff you might expect to find in those British sci-fi comics.
After years of eerie silence, though, it sounds as though the adaptation is much further along than we’d previously thought, with Variety reporting that Rogue Trooper has been cast and is already well into production. It’ll star Aneurin Barnard as the title’s genetically-enhanced super soldier. Supporting him will be Hayley Atwell, Jack Lowden (who also appeared in...

Duncan Jones, the director behind Moon, Warcraft, and Mute, is set to direct his first TV series, which will be an adaptation of the novel thriller Killer Intent. As a fan of Jones and his work, it's good to see him jump on another project, which I'm sure he'll end up directing before he gets to his recently announced film Rogue Trooper. Just in case you're not familiar with Killer Intent, here's some information:
Killer Intent is the first in a series of thrillers about a Jack Reacher-type intelligence agent Joe Dempsey. In the novel, when an attempted assassination sparks a chain reaction of dangerous events across London, Britain’s elite security forces are powerless to stop the chaos threatening to overwhelm the Government. As a dark conspiracy unfolds, three strangers find their fates entwined: Dempsey; Sarah Truman, a CNN reporter determined to get her headline; and Michael Devlin, a...

Duncan Jones, who won a BAFTA for his debut feature “Moon,” is to direct a television adaptation of Tony Kent’s thriller “Killer Intent.” The series will be produced by Liberty Films, the London- and L.A.-based production company of Stuart Fenegan and Jones, who is David Bowie’s son.
Kent will adapt his novel alongside an “American-style writers’ room of established TV talent,” according to a statement. Jones will executive produce alongside Fenegan, who acquired the screen rights for “Killer Intent” in advance of the hardback release earlier this year.
It will be Liberty’s first foray into television. Jones and Fenegan have previously worked exclusively in feature films with credits such as “Moon,” “Source Code,” “Warcraft” and “Mute.”
Jones said: “Tony’s writing style is already so cinematic, working with him and a room of writers to adapt his first book will be a thrill. I’m...

Going to the local cinema to see the latest movie has almost become a thing of the past. Some of the population would prefer staying at home with their big screen TV, even if it means waiting a few months to watch a popular movie, instead of dealing with people talking through a film or on their cell phone.
More filmmakers are turning to other forms of distribution to release their movies, with their stories no longer made for just the big screen. Netflix has become one of those outlets and it’s being accomplished with successful results.
Director Dee Rees’ (Pariah) Oscar nominated Mudbound, Suicide Squad director David Ayer’s Bright, and this week’s big surprise – J.J. Abrams Cloverfield Paradox, are a few examples of films finding an audience through the popular streaming format.

Duncan Jones' new sci-fi movie Mute arrives on Netflix in just under a month. Here's the first trailer...
Eagerly awaited by many, very much including ourselves, is director Duncan Jones’ return to the world of science fiction. Mute is his ‘spiritual sequel’ to Moon, and it’s premiering on Netflix from February 23rd. We now have an official synopsis and the first trailer, too.
The synopsis reads:
Berlin, the future, but close enough to feel familiar: In this loud, often brutal city, Leo (Alexander Skarsgård) – unable to speak from a childhood accident – searches for his missing girlfriend, the love of his life, his salvation, through dark streets, frenzied plazas, and the full spectrum of the cities shadow-dwellers. As he seeks answers, Leo finds himself mixed up with Cactus Bill (Paul Rudd) and Duck (Justin Theroux), a pair of irreverent Us army surgeons on a mission all their own.

Moon and Warcraft director, Duncan Jones is making a return to sci-fi this year with his passion project Mute. In what seems like an age to learn anything more about the film or even when it will be released, Jones has revealed Mute will officially premiere on Netflix on February 23rd.
Jones has been wanting to make this project a reality since 2003, when he first wrote the screenplay. He also revealed on Twitter that he wanted Sam Rockwell to be involved but Rockwell wanted to play the role of Leo, who is played by Alexander Skarsgård. So he went on to make Moon as a vehicle for Rockwell.
“It was going to be my first film. I sent it to Sam Rockwell who loved it! …but he wanted to play Leo, the part that would later go to Alex Skarsgård. I wouldn’t budge but was so enamoured with Sam,...

Whereas Legendary and Universal’s fantasy epic launched as simply Warcraft in North America, overseas the movie came bearing a very specific subtitle: The Beginning.
It was a bold statement of intent from both parties, as it signalled the tentative trilogy plans for Duncan Jones’ sweeping video game adaptation. Alas, a less-than-stellar take at the box office – $47 million domestic and a whopping $386 million overseas for a combined total of $433 million – has put those plans on ice for the time being, but Jones isn’t about to throw in the towel just yet.
While hosting a Warcraft screening in in London’s Leicester Square alongside producer Stuart Fenegan, the Moon filmmaker outlined a very specific arc for the potential sequel.
This first film is about establishing the world, and showing Durotan helping his son escape a dying planet.

In the years following his 2008 debut film “Moon,” director Duncan Jones has tried to get its spiritual sequel “Mute” off the ground. The film follows mute bartender Leo Beiler working in a futuristic Berlin in order to find the love of his life who has disappeared. As Leo’s search draws him deep into the city’s underworld, an odd pair of rogue American surgeons keep recurring and Leo has to figure out if they’re friends or enemies. Though Alexander Skarsgård and Paul Rudd have already joined the cast as Beiler and one of the Americans respectively, Variety reports that actor Justin Theroux has now rounded out the main trio, playing the other American surgeon.

The makers of the Warcraft movie did everything right. They tapped a video game universe with an immense collection of lore and backstories as source material. Director Duncan Jones had indie cred, a commercial and critical hit in Source Code, and a verifiable history of love for the games he was drawing from. His actors were intriguing performers who had shown great potential in other roles. Following promos for Durotan - The Rebel and Anduin Lothar - The Warrior, are you looking forward to the June release or are you still on the fence? There's certainly enough material in the Warcraft lore for many more adaptations. Garona Halforcen in particular, is a character with many, many secrets. Check out the brand new trailer for Warcraft (or, "Warcraft: The Beginning") below. This is probably the best look we've had of the fantasy adventure flick yet... though the seriously questionable music choices continue. Fans of the video game series seem to like what they've seen so far, but the various trailers/TV spots etc haven't gone down as well with everyone else. Be sure to share your thoughts on this latest teaser in the usual place. These last two Warcraft posters spotlight a couple of characters that have been largely absent from the movie's promotion thus far: Medivh and Khadgar. Both of these guys are Mages that begin fighting for the alliance, but one may have some hidden motives - if the movie follows the story laid out in the video games, that is. No spoilers here, so ask a Wow fan in the comments section to fill you in if you're curious! You know who’s a bit worried about “Warcraft”? Legendary, Universal and likely producers Charles Roven, Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni, Alex Gartner and Stuart Fenegan. Every year there are tentpole casualties, big-budget spectacles that flop hard and lose million of dollars. Last year it was “Jupiter Ascending,” “Fantastic Four” and “Pan,” and all it takes are early, half-hearted responses from the usually ardent online audience to add uncertainty to a blockbuster opening. Warner Bros.’ “The Legend Of Tarzan” already has a negative narrative going for it and Universal’s “Warcraft” was met with confusion at ComicCon last year and mixed reviews from its first trailer. Worse, “Warcraft” has had its release date bumped twice. Once to get out of the way of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” and a second time to get out of the way of “Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice,” now settling on a vote-of-confidence release...

On a cold day in early 2014, HitFix Harpy was among those invited to check out the set of “Warcraft.” Now I’m finally able to share (some) of that information with you! As a former World of Warcraft addict that occasionally lapses with each new expansion, I was skeptical. After all, video game movies don’t have the best track record. But after spending a day with the cast and crew of “Warcraft,” I think if anyone can break the video game movie curse, it’s these guys. The “Warcraft” universe is vast, with over a decade’s worth of lore spanning both games and novels. Trying to condense that into a single film would be a fool’s errand so Duncan Jones and his collaborator’s had to pick a story. They settled on one surrounding the King Llane Wrynn of Azeroth, Lothar, and Medivh on the human side...

It’s been a long time coming “Warcraft” is on the way! Which means tons of new information from the set. Back in the beginning of 2014, HitFix Harpy was among those who got to visit the set and see everything Duncan Jones and his team were doing to bring the world of Azeroth (and Draenor) to life. With over a decade’s worth of lore at their disposal — including the games and authorized books and comics — the creators of “Warcraft” had a delicate line to walk. The film needed to be instantly recognizable to fans of the universe but not so dense that it came off like The Silmarillion and scared off the general populace. Luckily not only was director Duncan Jones a fan of the series, but producer Stuart Fenegan as well. Along with fellow producer Jillian Share, Fenegan laid to rest any fears fans might have that “Warcraft...

After I saw “Moon” when it was released in 2009, I immediately wanted to a) watch “Moon” again and b) find out what else director Duncan Jones was working on. The answer to b) was a sci-fi thriller called “Mute,” and fans of the captivating, moody, thought-provoking “Moon” have been eagerly awaiting that project ever since the summer of 2009. Now things are finally moving forward for “Mute”: News broke late Tuesday that the film will star Paul Rudd, fresh off Marvel’s “Ant-Man,” and “True Blood” alum Alexander Skarsgard. “Mute” — which Jones has been working on for 12 years now — will be about “a woman whose disappearance causes a mystery for her partner, a mute bartender. When she disappears, he has to go up against the city's gangsters,” as producer Stuart Fenegan described in 2009. Here’s how today’s press release sums up the film: "Berlin. Forty years from today. Mute is an original film that was written by Jones and Mike Johnson, and here’s an official story summary that has been released:
Berlin. Forty years from today. A roiling city of immigrants, where East crashes against West in a science-fiction Casablanca. Leo Beiler (Skarsgard), a mute bartender has one reason and one reason only for living here, and she’s disappeared. But when Leo’s search takes him deeper into the city’s underbelly, an odd pair of American surgeons (led by Rudd) seem to be the only recurring clue, and Leo can’t tell if they can help, or who he should fear most.
