His kidnapping and murder became the biggest news event in the United
States since Charles Sr. had flown solo across the Atlantic.
The result of the kidnapping was The Lindbergh Law, making kidnapping a
Federal crime.
On the night of his kidnapping, his parents had gone out and left him
with a sitter. They were going to take young Charles with them but he
had a cold and stayed home.
He died as a result of a blow to the back of his head. Though he was
found several months after his kidnapping, coroners at the time
estimated that he had been dead since the night he was kidnapped.
