International Trailer for 'The Lovely Bones'

13 November 2009 6:55 PM, PST | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

Paramount Pictures has released an international trailer for "The Lovely Bones". Narrated by Saoirse Ronan who plays the major character, Susie Salmon, the video has given a look at some never-before-seen scenes of the drama movie.

Susie was fourteen years old when she was raped and murdered by her serial killer neighbor. Though her spirit reaches the perfect world in heaven, she is still haunted by her murderer who tries to hide the evidence as he sets his eyes on another victim.

In heaven, she also watches her family's grief as they try to deal with her death. Torn apart by her desire to seek revenge and willingness to help her family recover from the tragedy, she struggles to balance the two mixed feelings.

"The Lovely Bones" is based on a best selling book with the same title by Alice Sebold. Playing Saoirse Ronan's on-screen parents are Rachel Weisz and Mark Wahlberg. »

Oscar-talk: Best Actress contenders! Is it too early for Saoirse Ronan to win an Oscar?

12 November 2009 5:52 PM, PST | The Movie Fanatic | See recent The Movie Fanatic news »

There is something to be said about Kate Winslet's acceptance speech at the Academy Awards. After five nominations, Winslet finally won Best Actress! It's really about time. When she mentioned Meryl Streep, I took notice of the generations of actresses in attendance and that both Streep and Winslet belong differently. - - -

- - - This year, will someone from a much younger generation takes home the Oscar? I wonder will it be Saoirse Ronan for The Lovely Bones? Many are probably rooting for Carey Mulligan (An Education) to win and there are also many Oscarwatchers pinning their hopes on the older generation - will it be Dame Helen Mirren for The Last Station or will it be Meryl Streep's year yet again for Julie and Julia?

Irish-American Bill Murray says no one ‘claimed’ him in Ireland (IrishCentral)

9 November 2009 8:42 AM, PST | IrishCentral | See recent IrishCentral news »

Bill Murray is making the media rounds promoting the new animation film “Fantastic Mr. Fox,” and last week he made his way to Ireland. The famous Irish-American actor is the voice of Badger in the movie adaptation of the Roald Dahl story, in which George Clooney and Meryl Streep also lend their voices. The film marks Murray’s fifth collaboration with “The Royal Tenenbaums” director Wes Anderson. Murray falls perfectly into place with the all-star lineup, but he revealed to Ireland’s Evening Herald how low key he is about the idea of “celebrity.” The actor showed up to the interview alone – no publicists, no assistants, no agents. "I like to travel by myself,” he said. “Having to travel with others makes me nervous. I like to think I'm self-sufficient and who really needs to have all those kinds of people around anyway? They just irritate everyone." Murray claims he »

Saoirse Ronan is leading contender for Best Actress Oscar (IrishCentral)

4 November 2009 8:53 AM, PST | IrishCentral | See recent IrishCentral news »

Who’s the leading contender to win the Academy Award in February for Best Actress? According to the influential Los Angeles Times it’s none other than Irish actress Saoirse Ronan, who stars in “The Lovely Bones,” the film adaptation of the hugely successful Alice Sebold novel about a teenager who is raped and murdered, and watches from above the post-crime repercussions for the grief-stricken family she left behind, and the neighbor who committed the heinous act. The Times, in its awards blog called “The Envelope,” reported last week that Saoirse, all of 15, is simply captivating in the film, and that she totally eclipses her co-stars Mark Wahlberg, Susan Sarandon and Rachel Weisz. “A spy tells us that Saoirse Ronan is in virtually every scene of ‘The Lovely Bones’ . . . and we hear that Ronan steals the picture from everyone. This 15-year-old actress is quickly climbing the Hollywood ladder,” the blog said. »

The Week in Film: Halloween Weekend

29 October 2009 12:18 PM, PDT | AfterElton.com | See recent AfterElton.com news »

Ho ho ho, Merry- wait, that’s not right. Gobble gobble! Happy Thanks- shoot, that’s not right either. Ahem. *evil high-pitched cackle* Happy Halloween! Ah, there we go. Sorry for the confusion there, folks. It happens when you try to get a Turkey Santa Claus costume for this special day. You get confused. For some reason, I couldn’t find one anywhere, but enough about me. And since it’s Halloween weekend, time for scary movies! Right?

Maybe not so much. At least not new ones, as it looks like Hollywood decided too many folks were going to be out trick-or-treating to check out a new movie this weekend. Fortunately or unfortunately, Saw VI came out last week and Paranormal Activity is still in theaters scaring up big bucks (more on that later).

First up this week, we have Michael Jackson’s sold out This Is It that opened on Wednesday. »

Damon, Brolin In Talks for Coen Brothers' 'True Grit'

26 October 2009 6:25 PM, PDT | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

When the Coen Brothers go into production in March on their remake of True Grit, they'll have much bigger stars than in their current film, A Serious Man. Variety says that Matt Damon and Josh Brolin are in negotiations to join Jeff Bridges in the cast. Bridges is set to revive the Rooster Cogburn role that won John Wayne his only Academy Award. Doubtless, the two interpretations will be vastly different.

Damon would portray La Boeuf, a lawman who teams with Cogburn and a 14-year-old girl to track down her father's murderer. In the original film, the role was played by Glen Campbell. Brolin, who's so good as a villain, is in talks to play the killer originally brought to life by Jeff Corey.

All that remains is casting Mattie, the teenage girl, and I'm not looking much further than Saoirse Ronan. I have no corroborating information on that, but who would you cast? »
