Raised in the small town of Lincoln, Nebraska, April began making short
films and videos at the age of 14. Her fascination with Star Wars,
Battlestar Galactica and Wild Kingdom gave her the film bug at an even
younger age. Her mother Paula Patrick is a retired cereal chemist and
her father a decorated ex-marine and cryptographer. During her high
school years she directed a small theater group which performed a
number of the short plays and skits that she wrote, directed and also
starred in. A member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, April Holds a B.F.A. in
film and television production from Tisch School of the Arts. She
founded her production company "April Films, Inc." in 2001. She credits
some of her major influences as Akira Kurosawa, Oprah Winfrey, Alfred
Hitchcock, Yimou Zhang, Stephen Spielberg and Spike Lee.
