The supernatural horror film It Lives Inside, which stars Megan Suri of the Netflix series Never Have I Ever, didn’t draw in many viewers when it reached theatres last Friday. It had an opening weekend of $2.6 million and finished in seventh place on the top 10. Maybe it will do better when it reaches home video – and we can confirm that Distribution Solutions, a division of Alliance Entertainment, will be giving the film a DVD release on November 7th. Copies are available for pre-order at This Link. We don’t have any information on a Blu-ray or 4K release at this time, but Amazon is also accepting pre-orders for the Prime Video digital release.
It’s a shame It Lives Inside didn’t have better box office, as it was good enough to earn an 8/10 review from JoBlo’s own Tyler Nichols. That review can be read Here. The film...

Neon’s second trailer for It Lives Inside is incredibly creepy without being too spoiler-ish. Written and directed by Bishal Dutta, the PG-13 horror film is a unique twist on a demonic possession story.
“It Lives Inside emerged as an image: a kid on a bike, riding through Rockwellian suburbs. It’s right out of an early Amblin film. But what if this kid was escaping a puja, her school outfit wrapped in an ornate dupatta? For me, that image spoke to the duality I felt growing up as a first-generation immigrant in America. ‘Where do I belong? Which country is my home? Which world is ultimately mine?'” explained Dutta.
The cast includes Megan Suri, Neeru Bajwa, Mohana Krishnan, Vik Sahay, Gage Marsh, Beatrice Kitsos, and Betty Gabriel.
Get Out‘s Raymond Mansfield and Sean McKittrick served as producers. Edward H. Hamm Jr, Jameson Parker, Arielle Boisvert, and Shawn Williamson executive produce.

The poster can be seen at the bottom of this article.

Neon’s set a September 22, 2023 theatrical release date for the creepy horror film It Lives Inside. The coming-of-age horror debuted at SXSW and took home the Midnighter Audience Award.
The trailer shows two Indian teenagers going face-to-face with a demonic creature, and writer/director Bishal Dutta says his inspiration came from growing up on American horror movies.
“After I moved to North America from India at the age of four, a lot of my social education came from watching American horror films. I always wondered, what were families like mine doing while Bruce the shark tore through Amity’s waters, while Freddy Krueger slashed teenagers in the dreamscape, and while Jack Torrance chased his son through the maze-like halls of the Overlook?’ As it developed, It Lives Inside formed its own dual identity much like mine,” explained Dutta. “On one hand, it is a love letter to the community and...

Exclusive: QC Entertainment, the production company behind recent Best Picture Oscar contenders BlacKkKlansman and Get Out, has snapped up rights to J.D. Barker’s forthcoming erotic thriller novel Behind a Closed Door in a preemptive bid, with plans to adapt it for film.
The acquisition follows QC’s work with Barker on The Fourth Monkey, a show to adapt his award-winning, bestselling novel series of the same name. QC will, as in that case, produce alongside Spin a Black Yarn, which reps the writer.
Billed as 50 Shades of Grey meets David Fincher’s The Game, Behind a Closed Door introduces readers to Sugar & Spice, the latest app craze taking the world by storm, which leads downloaders Abby and Brendan Hollander into a dangerous game of life and death. When the app assigns the pair a series of increasingly taboo tasks, they soon find themselves caught up in a twisted web of seduction and violence.

A bit of surprise out of the EFM in Berlin as we learned that Neon is behind the SXSW horror It Lives Inside, the highly anticipated horror feature from Bishal Dutta, and will release the film theatrically in US later this year.
The film stars Megan Suri, Neeru Bajwa (Jatt & Juliet 1 & 2), Mohana Krishnan, Vik Sahay and Betty Gabriel (Get Out).
“Sam is desperate to fit in at school, rejecting her Indian culture and family to be like everyone else. When a mythological demonic spirit latches onto her former best friend, she must come to terms with her heritage in order to defeat it.”
The initial inspiration for the film emerged from the filmmaker’s own childhood experience of being born in India before emigrating to be raised in America, the press release revealed. The story draws heavily on both Indian demonic legend and a very personal family story from Dutta’s grandfather.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not seen “Antebellum,” now available on PVOD.
Filmmakers Gerard Bush and Christopher Renz weren’t worried about pushing the envelope too far with “Antebellum,” their twisty tale of a contemporary Black woman, a slave living on a brutal Southern plantation and the way their fates are intertwined. In fact, one could argue that was their intention.
“I think that we are in this place where art is being policed in such a way that the potency of the medicine that needs to be delivered, is being greatly diluted. Good art, our art is meant to activate and trigger,” Bush told Variety shortly before the film’s release. “I would prefer that you be triggered within the safety of your own home and activated into action, than for this to happen in reality and for us to continue to live in an open-air shooting gallery.

If movie theaters are planning to reopen in select locations around the country in the next month, will there be any new movies out there left to program? In another case of another movie biting the dust, Lionsgate has decided that the best course of distribution financially for their movie Antebellum is to have the movie premiere on premium on-demand platforms on Sept. 18, as Covid-19 safety protocols currently bar New York, California and other stateside cinemas from reopening. Antebellum will not get a simultaneous theatrical release in the U.S., however, will be released in select offshore markets. The movie, directed and written by filmmakers Gerard Bush and Christopher Renz, was originally intended to be an intriguing horror release for the mini-major, its first release date being April 24, before being moved to Aug. 21, and then undated recently. “While the theatrical experience will always be the heart of our business, we...

Lionsgate has removed Janelle Monáe’s upcoming horror movie “Antebellum” from the release calendar, according to an individual with knowledge of the project. The film was originally set to be released theatrically on Aug. 21.
The film’s release is currently unset. The move is not surprising given the fact that California’s movie theaters, bars, indoor restaurants, wineries and museums are currently closed due to the “alarming” spread of Covid-19.
In “Antebellum,” Monáe plays a renowned author giving a lecture about why women are the future. But she finds out her time might be up when fate chooses her to confront the reality of America’s haunting past. Split between modern times and the Civil War-era slavery period in the South, Monáe finds herself trapped in a horrifying reality and must uncover the mind-bending mystery before it’s too late. Her mind will be transported back in time to come...

Lionsgate has taken the Janelle Monáe horror movie Antebellum off its theatrical release schedule for the time being as big exhibition reorganizes itself during Covid-19.
Previously, the Gerard Bush-Christopher Renz directed and written movie was dated for Aug. 21, but with Warner Bros. Tenet hoping to reopen theaters over Labor Day weekend, the plan is for Antebellum to go later.
The pic was originally set for a April 24 release before the pandemic shut down a majority of theaters nationwide.
Antebellum follows a successful author, Veronica Henley, who finds herself trapped in a horrifying reality and must uncover the mind-bending mystery before it’s too late.
The pic also stars Jena Malone, Gabourey Sidibe, and Jack Huston.
Bush and Renz produced with Zev Foreman, Raymond Mansfield, Sean McKittrick and Lezlie Willis.

You’ve seen this tale before: a man or woman is accidentally transported through time and has a grand adventure in the past that solves all their problems. It’s a yarn at least as old as Mark Twain’s A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court and persists still on Outlander with every new season. Yet these protagonists tend to share a common trait: they can fit into the past. But what if they couldn’t? Or worse still, what if they could, but only in a specific, horrifying role? Antebellum seems to be going there as past and future merge—and that past is the slave-based economy of the American South.
In what appears to be an electrifying idea for a horror movie, Antebellum is the feature debut for writer-directors Gerard Bush and Christopher Renz. The film is notably produced by Raymond Mansfield and Sean McKittrick, who...
