Slash has unveiled the latest single from his upcoming blues album, Orgy of the Damned, set to arrive on May 17th. The Guns N’ Roses guitarist teams up with country superstar Chris Stapleton on a cover of Fleetwood’s Mac’s “Oh Well.”
The freewheeling guitar playing from Slash and the raspy vocal delivery from Stapleton add a gritty vibe to Fleetwood Mac’s original 1969 song, a bluesy garage number that was penned and sung by singer-guitarist Peter Green.

Slash said of the song in a press release, “So, this is the original Fleetwood Mac, which was founded by Peter Green, one of the greatest singer-songwriter-guitar players, he’s less known in the public, but very well known to us guitar players re the 60s British blues and he’s up there with Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, and Mick Taylor. Jon Batiste is giving high praise to Beyoncé, with whom he collaborated on a new country music album, Cowboy Carter.
Beyoncé dropped the 27-track album Friday, but she made history last month with the release of single “Texas Hold ‘Em,” which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard‘s Hot Country Songs chart. That made her the first Black woman to accomplish such a feat, according to Billboard.
Batiste, who was one of several collaborators on Cowboy Carter, praised the Grammy-winning singer for her role in breaking down barriers across music genres.
“This is the moment yall, where we dismantle the genre machine,” he posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday.
He added: “Quincy Jones told me, as he also wrote in his forward to my We Are album, ‘it’s up to you to de categorize American music!! ,’ which is what Duke Ellington told him. I really believe that is our generations role,...

Beyoncé’s new album, Cowboy Carter, is out in the wild. In a press release, Beyoncé provided extensive insight into the making of the album and its variety of influences. Plus, read our review the album here.
Each Song Was Inspired by a Western Film
Notably, each song is its own version of a reimagined Western film, including Michael Matthews’ Five Fingers For Marseilles; James Bridges’ Urban Cowboy; Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight; Clint Eastwood’s Space Cowboys; Jeymes Samuel’s The Harder They Fall; and Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon. Often times, they films were playing on a screen during the recording process.
Additionally, some aspects of the album’s percussion were inspired by the Coen Brothers’ ‘O Brother, Where Art Thou?.
Beyoncé also found inspiration in traditional country, R&b, blues, zydeco, and Black folk music, as well as from her childhood trips to the Houston Rodeo.

Cowboy Carter has arrived in areas of the world where it’s already Friday — i.e., New Zealand and Australia — and more details about Beyoncé’s new album have emerged.
Yesterday’s reveal of the Cowboy Carter track list confirmed that the album featured her long-rumored cover of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene,” but the Australasian release also brings news that “Blackbiird” — stylized with double i’s on the track list — is actually a cover of the Beatles’ White Album classic “Blackbird,” a song that Paul McCartney penned in tribute to the Little Rock Nine.

Ahead of the release of Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter in two days, the singer has finally shared the track list for her country-flavored follow-up to Renaissance.
In addition to the already-released singles “Texas Hold ‘Em” and “16 Carriages,” Cowboy Carter also has tracks name-checking country legends like Willie Nelson (“Smoke Break”), the pioneering Linda Martell (“The Linda Martell Show”) and Dolly Parton; the latter is represented with “Dolly P” and a cover of “Jolene” that Parton previously hinted at.

The disco horse on the cover of Beyoncé’s dance opus Renaissance has come to life on the cover of Cowboy Carter, the second act of her ongoing album series set to arrive on March 29. Perched on a white horse, the musician holds the reins in one hand and a flowing American flag in the other. Her wrangling of control in the artwork is reflective of the place from which Cowboy Carter emerged.

Becky with the good hair, meet Jolene.
A cover or sample of “Jolene” may be on the way from Beyoncé, at least according to Dolly Parton. During a recent interview with Tennessee outlet Knox News, Parton revealed that Queen Bey had recorded a rendition of her iconic song — and it might even be featured on Beyoncé’s Act II.
“I think she’s recorded ‘Jolene’ and I think it’s probably gonna be on her country album, which I’m very excited about that,” Parton said.
“I love her!” she added.

Renowned music producer Dave Cobb was working on a film job where he recreated the music of one singing icon — Tammy Faye Bakker — when he got the assignment to do the same for an even more significant vocalist, high a bar as that may have been: Elvis Presley. Truly, both figured into his youth, growing up as a Pentecostal kid in the Southeast. But even if one were to consider these singers on the same plane, “Elvis” would require quite a lot more out of him than “The Eyes of Tammy Faye,” as workloads go, due to the sheer amount of Presley catalog being recreated. Ultimately, he wound up working on 80 different tracks for the Baz Luhrmann film.
He admits he was intimidated by the task, although probably not as much as a producer whose parents hadn’t constantly played Elvis records from the time of his birth might have been.

By his telling, Zac Brown has always been hustling. Even before his musical ambitions came to light, he was a grade-school sugar peddler.
“I was the kid in school that was selling candy out of my backpack,” Brown says. “I was slinging Blow Pops and Jolly Ranchers.”
The Georgia native eventually graduated from sweets to songs but retained his work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit. He’d go to a local sports bar, propose a recurring gig where he got to keep the door money, and play for hours. This D.

Reyna Roberts is a study in contrasts in her assertive new song “Raised Right.” The Alabama native released the country-rock anthem on Friday and it follows her 2020 single “Stompin’ Grounds.”
Built around a handclap rhythm and swampy guitar lick, “Raised Right” has Roberts outlining some fundamentals of her upbringing. “At your worst, be on your best/Do unto others like the good lord says,” she sings, waiting a beat before she adds, “Unless you cross me or my girlfriends.”
