Two directors are introducing English speakers to popular children’s characters from around the world. Danny Prussman and A.J. Tesler are the Co-Founders of Uncommon Threads Media, a company that will import foreign-language family content.
The first character to join the Uncommon Threads library is Joze, a giraffe who hails from Georgia. On his main Georgian-language YouTube channel, Joze’s catchy songs, simple lessons, and cheerful tone have attracted 362,000 subscribers. That makes him one of the biggest YouTube stars in Georgia, where the total population is under four million. One of Joze’s musical compilations has picked up more than 47 million views on its own.
Prussman and Tesler are betting that these international hits can reach new audiences via translation. Their localized version of Joze will feature voiceovers from Booth Daniels and some slight shifts in the subject matter. According to Kidscreen, the show’s crow characters have had their...

Exclusive: Khalil Everage (Cobra Kai) and Indiana Massara (Hero Mode) have joined the cast of The Crusades, an upcoming film from writer/director Leo Milano.
They’ll star opposite previously announced cast member Rudy Pankow (Outer Banks).
The highly stylized dramatic comedy follows three friends at an all-boys high school, as they try to survive one final weekend before merging with their rival school. It’s scripted by Milano, Jack Hussar and Shaun Early, who were inspired to write the pic, given their own experience attending an all-boys private high school.
As we told you first, Pankow will lead the cast as Leo Grecco, a charming and sometimes delusional dreamer who spends his life focused on things he can’t have.
Everage joins as unconventional jock, Sean. Despite having the game, the grades, and the girlfriend, Sean can’t seem to feel like “the man.”
Massara is set to play Jess,...

No one says “teamwork makes the dream work” in “Hero Mode,” but that maxim’s corny sentiment nonetheless aptly applies to A.J. Tesler’s video game-themed teen comedy, which follows a formula that dates back to at least the era of the Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis. A lively saga about a young coding wizard who’s charged with saving his family’s gaming business, this celebration of old- and new-school creativity doesn’t break novel ground in any respect. Fortunately, though, when it debuts in theaters on June 4 and on VOD on June 11.

"We need to find something that real gamers really want to play." Blue Fox Entertainment has released an official trailer for an indie comedy titled Hero Mode, the feature directorial debut of producer / filmmaker A.J. Tesler. With his family’s indie video game business on the brink of bankruptcy, a teenage coding genius has just 30 days to create the world’s greatest video game. "No pressure." They're playing this as a family comedy for all ages, and it definitely looks like it's made to make everyone laugh. Hero Mode stars Chris Carpenter as Troy, Mira Sorvino, Sean Astin plus Indiana Massara as Paige, along with Mary Lynn Rajskub, Kimia Behpoornia, Phillip Solomon, Monte Markham, Creed Bratton, Jim O'Heir, Erik Griffin, Bobby Lee, and Al Madrigal. This is extremely cheesy and especially obvious in its video game designer humor. But there is still some kind of strange charm to it that might make it worth watching.

A pair of popular YouTubers are set to make their feature film debut. Lauren Elizabeth (aka LoveLaurenElizabeth) and Jenn McAllister (aka JennXPenn) are set to star in Bad Night, a film produced by Grb Entertainment.
Bad Night, which was announced at Playlist Live, will be the first film from Grb, which is best known for producing reality TV shows like A&E's Intervention. The project will star McAllister and Elizabeth as a pair of high school students who get lost during a class field trip. That plot summary, with its school-based shenanigans, resembles Cameron Dallas vehicle Expelled, another film led by an online video star.
The similarities between Bad Night and Expelled run a lot deeper than their respective plots. Expelled brought partners from the AwesomenessTV multi-channel network to the big screen, and both Elizabeth and McAllister are represented by Big Frame, the talent management company owned by AwesomenessTV. Two of Big Frame's employees,...
