Willie Nelson is bringing his annual 4th of July Picnic to Philadelphia — or, more specifically, across the bridge from Philadelphia in nearby Camden, New Jersey.
Taking place at Freedom Mortgage Pavilion in Camden on Thursday, July 4th, the all-star concert will see Willie Nelson & Family joined by Bob Dylan, Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, Maren Morris, Mavis Staples, and Celisse.
A ticket pre-sale for Nelson’s 4th of July Picnic is set for Wednesday, March 27th at 10:00 a.m. Et (use code Key), with a pubic on-sale following on Friday, March 29th via Ticketmaster.
Nelson first staged his 4th of July Picnic in 1973 and has been hosting the event semi-reguarlly ever since (including two digital editions in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic). This year’s event marks the first iteration not to take place in Nelson’s native Texas since 2009.

Willie Nelson’s 4th of July Picnic is moving to Philadelphia. (Well, actually the aptly named Freedom Mortgage Pavilion across the Delaware River in Camden, New Jersey.)
On Tuesday, the event’s organizers announced that the annual fest — held in Texas since 2010 — will move to the Philly area for the very first time. Bob Dylan is among the Independence Day concert’s performers.

Under a starry western sky last weekend, Park City Song Summit founder Ben Anderson stood onstage and held court in front of an audience of creatives.
“We’re going to change the legacy and culture of music on this mountain,” Anderson howled into the evening chill, his voice echoing far and wide into the surrounding high-desert peaks of Utah. Then he dove headlong into a rendition of “Will the Circle Be Unbroken.”
Ivan Neville, Eric Krasno, and Anders Osborne all joined Anderson for the tribute, along with a slew of...

In a simple twist of fate, when Warren Haynes was toying around with what to call the new Gov’t Mule album, the singer, guitarist, and former member of the Allman Brothers found himself in a conversation about Paul Simon with Evan Bakke, chief engineer at the recording studio Power Station New England.
“He asked me, ‘What’s your favorite Paul Simon song?’ I said, ‘The Sound of Silence’ because that’s the first one that ever moved me when I was seven years old,” Haynes tells Rolling Stone. “He...

Joni Mitchell has shared her new live album At Newport, commemorating her surprise appearance at the 2022 Newport Folk Festival.
Co-produced by Mitchell along with fellow Newport performer Brandi Carlile, the album features 12 live recordings. Throughout the performance, Mitchell and Carlile were accompanied by artists including Phil and Tim Hanseroth, Wynonna Judd, Marcus Mumford, Celisse, Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig of Lucius, and Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes. The setlist includes Mitchell classics like “Big Yellow Taxi,” “A Case Of You,” and “Both Sides Now.”
Not only was Mitchell’s Newport set her first live performance in over 20 years, but it also marked a rare public appearance since she suffered a brain aneurysm in 2015. Mitchell’s longtime friend, filmmaker Cameron Crowe, wrote about the magic of her return in the live album’s liner notes. (You can get the physical version of the album here.)

Joni Mitchell has been one of the most honored musicians of this century. She’s picked up honors from the Kennedy Center, Library of Congress, the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song, and an honorary degree from the Berklee College of Music.
But something was missing. Save for a surprise set at the 2022 Newport Folk Festival, you could’t buy a ticket to a Joni Mitchell concert.
That changed Saturday night, as the 79-year-old Mitchell returned to the stage at the Gorge Amphitheater in Quincy, Washington. The momentous occasion was marked by guest performances by Annie Lennox, Brandi Carlile, Blake Mills, Lucius, Sarah McLachlan, Marcus Mumrod, Celisse, and Taylor Goldsmith in an ensemble performance dubbed the “Joni Jam.”
Twitter was ablaze with multiple videos from the concert.
Carlile was the emcee as well as a performer. The ensemble performed hits from the vast Mitchell catalog, including “Big Yellow Taxi,” “Night Ride Home,...

If Joni Mitchell’s Joni Jam at the Gorge Amphitheater Saturday were to become a scene in the upcoming Cameron Crowe biopic on the iconic troubadour, Mitchell just taking the stage to a standing ovation eight years after she nearly died of an aneurysm would have been a glorious Hollywood ending.
Mitchell simply being back on stage was already the triumph of the human spirit we all desperately craved as fans of her music and tougher than nails image. At one point during the show, Brandi Carlile, who acted as host/interviewer for the night,...

Last year, Joni Mitchell surprised Newport Folk Festivalgoers with her first public performance in 20 years, singing a slew of her most beloved songs with notable guests. Marcus Mumford and Brandi Carlile joined her for “A Case of You” — and an official video of the performance is finally coming out. The song will feature on the upcoming release, At Newport: Featuring the Joni Jam, due out July 28.

Joni Mitchell has officially announced At Newport, a live album immortalizing her surprise appearance at the 2022 Newport Folk Festival. The project arrives on streaming services, CD, and 2xLP on July 28th.
Mitchell’s first live performance in 20 years came during Brandi Carlile’s set at the festival, so it’s only fair that Carlile would co-produce the live album with Mitchell herself. Phil and Tim Hanseroth, Wynonna Judd, Marcus Mumford, Celisse, Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig of Lucius, and Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes also performed with the artists during the set, which featured Mitchell classics like “Big Yellow Taxi,” “A Case Of You,” and “Both Sides Now.” Mitchell even performed a solo instrumental version of “Just Like This Train” on guitar.
At Newport also features liner notes from Cameron Crowe, who contextualizes Mitchell’s set — which followed a brain aneurysm she suffered in 2015 — with the earnest prose we’ve come...
