It was announced this morning by DC Comics that Smallville will be returning for an 11th Season in printed form rather than as a live action television series. This is great news for fans of the long running show who were distraught with news it was coming to an end, and for those of us who have been longing to see how Clark Kent is coping in his new identity as Superman.
Written by Bryan Q Miller, a former staff writer on the show, the series promises to pick up six months after the events of the finale. The series will launch digitally on April 13th 2012 with new chapters being released each week following its debut. The series will then be collected and released in printed format on May 16th, presumably as monthly comic book issues.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Roland Emmerich’s alien invasion flick, The Zone, is no more. While production was scheduled to begin next week, it has apparently been shut down.
“This is not a project (Emmerich) is pursuing at this time,” was the statement released from Emmerich’s team.
The alien invasion film was set to be directed in the style of recently popular ‘found footage’ or ‘low budget’ home footage flicks. Not much was known about The Zone, which was supposed to be filmed improv-based with little known actors. Peter Mackenzie and Brandon Scott were said to have played a journalist and a cameraman.
Could the demise of this movie be due to a premature scare of the ‘found footage’ genre decline? It’s hard to say as Paranormal Activity 2 recently did very well at the box office. The reason could lie in the Weinstein Co.’s recently...

Roland Emmerich's The Zone, a low-budget sci-fier that was to have been directed by the man responsible for megabudgeted fare such as Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow, and 2012 has been shut down, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The $5m, docu-style, "lost footage found" sci-fier may have been killed by The Weinstein Company's recent acquisition of Brian Miller's screenplay Apollo 18, another "lost footage found" sci-fier that is scheduled to reach North American theaters in March 2011. Peter Mackenzie and Brandon Scott were to have starred in The Zone. Apollo 18 will be directed by Trevor Cawood. Wanted's Timur Bekmambetov is co-producing the film.

Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov has long been involved with the film Apollo 18, which uses the premise that the canceled space mission did, in fact, go ahead and alien life was discovered on the moon, today we find out more about the film’s journey to the big screen.
The alternate history tale will be delivered to the screen as ‘found footage’ – i.e. it’ll be footage shot by the astronauts themselves. Brian Miller wrote the script and Bekmambetov, who is about to direct Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, will be producing the film.
Already well into production, the footage shot so far convinced the Weinsteins to pick up the film and throw a release date of the 4th of March 2011, which puts it ahead of the Jj Abrams 70s set Super 8 and alongside the Oren Peli directed Area 51.

Everybody’s finding super duper secret stuff in undiscovered old films just laying around nowadays. Okay, not really, but Hollywood sure seems to think they’ve found a snazzy new genre, and by God, they’re going to squeeze it for all its worth. Up first, “Wanted” director and “Nine” producer Timur Bekmambetov is getting into the sci-fi alien/found footage genre with a new movie called “Apollo 18″, which he will be producing, but not directing. Written by Brian Miller, “Apollo 18″ is a “found footage” movie, which means most of the film will take place from the Pov of some “footage” that is found, similar to “Cloverfield” and the “Paranormal Activity” movies. The plot: Set to be shot documentary style, the film unearths lost footage from Apollo 18’s undocumented and covert mission to the moon, revealing disturbing new evidence of other life forms. Bekmambetov will be producing with The Weinstein Co.

It's been officially announced that recently, at the Astana International Action Film Festival screenplay competition, The Weinstein Company acquired the rights to a movie called Apollo 18, written by Brian Miller.
The movie tells the story of Nasa's Apollo 18 mission to our moon, which was actually one of the many canceled missions in reality...or so we've been told. In the movie, the idea that the mission actually went ahead as planned is presented. It will be shot documentary style, to look as if it is proof of the mission actually happening and showing undiscovered footage from what the crew on that mission found, including "disturbing" proof of other life forms.
Apollo 18 is set to be produced by Timur Bekmambetov, the Russian director responsible for movies like Wanted and stylized vampire films, Night Watch and Day Watch. Bekmambetov is the one who founded the Astana International Film Festival screenplay competition at...

So it looks like Apollo 18 is coming together. If you are unfamiliar with it, Apollo 18 is a script by Brian Miller, which won the 1st Astana International Film Festival screenplay competition. Timur Bekmambetov (pictured) founded the competition and is personally producing the film. Timur is the director of Wanted and the Nightwatch series.
The script was recently purchased by The Weinstein Company and already has a release date of March 2011. That is a Very small turnaround, considering it hasn’t even begun shooting.
The film itself is a “found footage” style movie (Cloverfield and the Original Blair Witch Project) and centers on the canceled Apollo 18 flight. The story supposes that the Apollo was actually launched, but when evidence of alien life was discovered, President Nixon had a false story circulated.
Attached to direct is Trevor Cawood, who is a CGI/Visual FX veteran from the Matrix sequels. Normally I would...

With the recent discovery of Russian film footage that suggests that America’s Apollo 18 space mission actually did occur, despite being canceled by President Nixon in the early 1970s, The Weinstein Company (TWC) announced today that it has acquired the rights to a provocative new film project, titled Apollo 18. To be directed by Trevor Cawood from a screenplay by Brian Miller, “the documentary-style sci-fi thriller” will be produced by Russian filmmaker Timur Behmambetov (Wanted, 9, The Darkest Hour) and Michele Wolkoff, president of development for Bekmambetov Projects, Ltd. Production has been fast-tracked to begin in December, with a wide release planned for March 4.
A quintessential Cold War story, Apollo 18 casts light on the covert and undocumented lunar mission that officially “never happened.” Bekmambetov, hired by Russia to shoot a documentary about the Russian space station, recently came across footage in its space archives that bolsters the idea that an Apollo 18 mission did,...

The Weinstein Company has acquired the rights to Timur Bekmambetov‘s (The Darkest Hour) latest project, entitled Apollo 18. The films plot revolves around recently “found footage” shot by the crew of an abandoned moon mission that Nasa claims never took place in the early 1970s. The lost footage reveals the existence of alien life and explains why Nasa has hidden the evidence for all of these years.
The real Apollo 18 mission would have landed at the moon’s Schroter’s Valley, a riverlike channel-way in February 1972. The mission was one of several of the Apollo program’s missions that were canceled during the 1960s and 1970s, due to budget limitations or schedule constraints.

During this .secret. mission, the crew landing on the moon discovers evidence of alien life, and brings filmed proof back to earth, which is seen as part of the movie. Brian Miller's sci-fi thriller Apollo 18, winner of the inaugural Astana (Kazakhstan) International Action Film Festival screenplay competition founded by Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov, has been acquired by The Weinstein Company. Trevor Cawood, probably best known as a visual-effects technician on The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions, is set to direct the project. (Cawood also directed the short Terminus in 2007.) Bekmambetov and Michele Wolkoff, President of Development for Bekmambetov Projects Ltd. (Bpl), will produce Apollo 18, which will be shot "documentary style" as per TWC's press release. As part of the Astana competition, Miller was awarded a cash prize and a development deal with Bpl. In Miller's screenplay, lost footage from Apollo 18’s covert mission to the moon is uncovered, thus revealing evidence of other life forms — possibly even scarier than human beings. (As an aside, according to the official Nasa story, the Apollo 18 mission was axed.) [...]...

Timur Bekmambetov joins the found footage game with "Apollo 18." He's attached to produce the Trevor Cawood movie for The Weinstein Company. The script by Brian Miller incorporates the "found footage" trope of mysterious occurrences caught on tape in the vein of "Cloverfield" and "Paranormal Activity," and the soon-to-be released "Super 8" from producer Steven Spielberg and director Jj Abrams.
According to the official press release, "Apollo 18" will be "shot documentary style, the film unearths lost footage from Apollo 18'’s undocumented and covert mission to the moon, revealing disturbing new evidence of other life forms."
Oooooh!
This is intriguing and all, but can we get Bekmambetov to direct again, please? Sure, he's still set to do Seth Grahame-Smith's "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" but hurry up! "Wanted" was released two years ago! Time it ticking!
Here's the full press release of "Apollo 18" from Weinstein Company:

Attendance is down at the American Film Market, but there are still buyers and sellers there, among them the Weinstein Co., which is announcing a pre-buy on sci-fi thriller Apollo 18, a moon-travel movie written by Brian Miller, who won a screenwriting contest mounted by producer Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted), who has set Trevor Cawood to direct. Point is, many movies at Afm are wannabe projects that do not yet exist. Having a distributor in place helps to make a movie more bankable. Bakmambetov landed The Weinstein Co. by wowing them at the Afm with some purported "lost footage" from Apollo 18’s Nixon-era secret moon mission, which reveals new life forms. We'll see if this one--like many other movies at Afm--ever gets made. It supposed to ...

HollywodoNews.com: With the recent discovery of Russian film footage that suggests that America’s Apollo 18 space mission actually did occur, despite being canceled by President Nixon in the early 1970s, The Weinstein Company (TWC) announced today that it has acquired the rights to a provocative new film project, titled Apollo 18. To be directed by Trevor Cawood from a screenplay by Brian Miller, the documentary-style sci-fi thriller will be produced by Russian filmmaker Timur Behmambetov (Wanted, 9, The Darkest Hour) and Michele Wolkoff, president of development for Bekmambetov Projects, Ltd.

The Weinstein Company has emerged from a competitive bidding situation with the worldwide rights to "Apollo 18," a super-secretive extraterrestrial movie that "Wanted" director Timur Bekmambetov is creatively spearheading, according to Deadline. Trevor Cawood is directing from a script by Brian Miller, while Bekmambetov is producing the picture, which is described as a horror movie set in a small spaceship where two astronauts get attacked by alien spiders. TWC agreed to fully finance the film after Bob Weinstein met several times with Bekmambetov, who presented footage that purported to have been shot...

The “found footage” genre really does seem to be exploding into a hefty trend, with a variety of filmmakers giving it a stab. The latest? That would be Timur Bekmambetov, who is adding yet another project in his endless battle with Guillermo del Toro to see who can win the title of Busiest Man in Movies. Bekmambetov has just scored a deal with The Weinstein Company for alien encounter thriller Apollo 18.Deadline reports that the film is apparently shooting in secret (with Matrix sequels VFX man Trevor Cawood directing from a script by Brian Miller) and features footage that is credited to the astronauts of the eponymous Nasa mission. There’s just one slight hitch: Apollo 18 was cancelled along with several other missions due to budget limitations and scheduling issues. The movie will be fed by the urban legend that the crew did actually launch in secret, with the added...

Earlier this morning, The Weinstein Company won a bidding war for a new alien sci-fi film called Apollo 18, being produced by Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov. This is very unfortunate for the movie since the Weinsteins still don't know how to release a movie properly.
The movie is based on the 1970's Apollo 18 mission to the moon, which ended up being cancelled. Conspiracy theorists believe that the mission actually happened, and that's where the story will go. According to deadline, Timur showed the Weinsteins footage that was purported to have been shot by the crew of Apollo 18. The footage shows "signs of alien life, and the events of the mission are built into a thriller story line."
The film is already in production, and it will be released March 4, 2011, five months from now. The film project is being directed by a visual effects animator named Trevor Caewood, and was written by Brian Miller.

I love surprises like this. Apparently there's a creepy found-footage sci-fi thriller called Apollo 18 that hits theaters in March 2011. Deadline says the film recently sold to The Weinstein Company, but it may already be in production and finished filming. Behind it is Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov, who presented purported footage shot by the crew of Apollo 18 to the Weinsteins, who financed the feature. That Apollo 18 moon mission from the 70s was officially canceled by Nasa, but according to an urban legend, it actually happened. Timur's footage shows signs of alien life, and the mission is crafted into a found-footage thriller. Deadline goes on to explain that there was a big bidding war last night at Afm for Apollo 18, which is being directed by newcomer Trevor Caewood from a script by Brian Miller. We might see the poster this weekend, but apparently it is aiming to hit ...

Exclusive: The Weinstein Company won a bidding battle that went past Friday night and into the wee hours of Saturday morning for Apollo 18, an extraterrestrial film that is being creatively spearheaded by Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov. The picture, which is well into production and will be released March 4, 2011, shapes up as the next in a line of films that use a tinge of reality to launch into thriller story lines. Others include the Paranormal Activity films, the upcoming Oren Peli-directed Area 51, and the Jj Abrams-directed Super 8. Harvey and Bob Weinstein bought worldwide rights to the film, agreeing to fully finance the picture. The Internet was set abuzz over the weekend, when a new Nas track, "Power, Paper & Pu---," was leaked from DJ Green Lantern's latest mixtape, Invasion Radio 2K10. The stellar freestyle features the Queensbridge Mc in rare form. In recent years, fans and critics alike have mulled the direction of the rapper's artistic output. Some even argued that Nasty Nas had gone on hiatus. But to hear God's Son tell it, he's still the same Mc who gave the game Illmatic.

Even though he's been around a while, we picked Leap Year's Matthew Goode as a likely 2010 breakout star because a.) he and co-star Amy Adams make a ridiculously cute couple, and b.) because Hollywood needs a new, good-looking British rom-com option now that Hugh Grant is heading out to pasture. Does the movie help give Goode a chance to finally become a household name?
"This is a full-bore, PG-rated, sweet rom-com. It sticks to the track, makes all the scheduled stops and bears us triumphantly to the station. And it is populated by colorful characters, but then, when was the last time you saw a boring Irishman in a movie?"
— Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times
"The director, Anand Tucker (Shopgirl), leaves things relatively uncluttered, which I appreciated. At the same time, I could have put that less generously — as in, not very much surprising happens."
— Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly
