Nashville producer Dave Cobb is best known for his work with country icons like Chris Stapleton, Brandi Carlile, and Jason Isbell. But when he was a kid in the Eighties, he listened mostly to hard rock bands like Bad Company, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, and Van Halen. He was 11 when Sammy Hagar took over as lead singer of Van Halen, and their early albums together left a huge impression on him.
“I remember playing drums along to ‘Dreams’ and just freaking out,” Cobb tells Rolling Stone. “I watched [their 1986 concert film] Live Without...

Sammy Hagar and the Circle have added some hard-rock heft to David Bowie’s “Heroes,” the latest song they’ve released from their quarantine recording sessions and the lead single from their upcoming Lockdown 2020 album.
Guitarist Vic Johnson leans into the song’s riff and conjures washes of sound for the verses, while Hagar wails the vocals in the way only he can, and bassist Michael Anthony and drummer Jason Bonham keep the track on course with a steady rhythm. All proceeds from the song will go to food banks around the U.

Sammy Hagar and his band the Circle have recorded a lockdown rendition of the 1995 Van Halen single “Don’t Tell Me (What Love Can Do).”
The song, which Hagar hasn’t sung in 25 years, originally appeared on Balance and was partially inspired by the death of Kurt Cobain.
“When I heard that Kurt Cobain had taken his own life, the first thing I thought of was I wish I were there and could have tried to save him,” Hagar writes of the song. “The original title for these lyrics were...

Sammy Hagar and the Circle have mainly tackled covers like the Who’s “Won’t Get Fooled Again” and Little Richard’s “Keep-a-Knockin'” in their weekly Lockdown Sessions video series over the past couple of months, but their newest session takes on 1991 Van Halen classic “Right Now.”
“When I wrote this song with Eddie Van Halen over 30 years ago I had no idea it would be so relevant today,” Hagar wrote on YouTube.
“Right Now” was one of Van Halen’s biggest hits during Hagar’s time fronting the band.

Sammy Hagar and the Circle’s newest Lockdown Sessions video is a cover of Little Richard’s 1957 classic “Keep a-Knockin,'” which they recorded as a tribute to the late rock & roll pioneer.
“I had the hardest time with this one because every time I came in singing, I started singing Led Zeppelin’s ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll!'” Hagar wrote. “It took me three damn takes. My favorite drummer and my favorite singer of all time — love this one hope you do too. Long live the music of John Bonham and Little Richard!

Sammy Hagar & the Circle have released their new short film, Space Between. The nearly 37-minute movie serves as a companion piece to the supergroup’s album of the same name, which was released in May.
The visual centers on a character named John, whose life traverses the album’s themes of money, greed, enlightenment and truth. As John makes his way through casinos and drug-fueled parties, he’s surrounded by visual reminders of his excess via surreal pig imagery. Hagar and his Circle bandmates — bassist Michael Anthony, drummer Jason Bonham...

Michael Anthony made pretty big Van Halen news earlier this this week when he revealed that he was approached last year by the band’s management about a reunion tour. A representative from David Lee Roth’s team also called him, and he was so confident it was in the works that he asked The Circle — his current group with Sammy Hagar, drummer Jason Bonham and guitarist Vic Johnson — to take a break during the summer so he could be a part of the supposed tour. “They never got in...

Former Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony says he was approached last year about the possibility of a reunion tour with the band that was supposed to take place this summer. It would have been the first time all four members of the classic David Lee Roth lineup shared a stage since 1984.
“I’m sure you know Sammy [Hagar] had made a statement [earlier in the year] saying I was offered [to do a tour with Van Halen],” Anthony told radio host Eddie Trunk on Wednesday. “And I can tell you, I spoke with [Van Halen’s manager] Irving Azoff last October — that’s when I first...

Sammy Hagar & The Circle – the singer’s supergroup with fellow former Van Halen band mate and bassist Michael Anthony, drummer Jason Bonham and Hagar’s longtime guitarist Vic Johnson – have unveiled the lyric video for “Trust Fund Baby,” the first single off the band’s upcoming LP Space Between.
