Cm Punk’s apparent walk-out on the WWE has shocked the wrestling industry. Initial details were limited to Dave Meltzer saying Punk was gone, probably because of burnout but more info is now starting to trickle through.
Mike Johnson of PWInsider reports that the backstage belief within the company is that Punk no longer factored into any WWE plans. Despite his contract running to July, those who are willing to talk believe he is done now. All talk of this being an angle can be dismissed, those talking about the incident from inside WWE aren’t part of any work.
Several of the PWInsider’s sources are saying that Punk was scheduled to face Antonio Cesaro this week on Raw. Punk was booked to lose, following interference from Kane. This would have been an Elimination Chamber qualifier, thus facilitating Cesaro’s new push and Punk’s feud with Kane.

If there is one thing wrestling fans have learned over the years it’s that former big names always find a way to come back “home” to World Wrestling Entertainment. In recent years we’ve seen men like The Rock and Brock Lesnar make once unlikely returns. Now it’s time for Batista (real name Dave Batista) to return.
In a report by Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com, Batista was advertised for a WWE live event in Las Vegas on Sunday February 16th via online and radio advertisements. The report goes on to state that he was expected back in the New Year possibly as a surprise at the Royal Rumble. Now that the news is out here, one has to wonder what WWE will do about it. When Batista left WWE in 2010, he spoke about not liking the PG direction the company was taking. Obviously the time away has allowed those feelings to change.

Hooray! We have our first clip from one of the most breathlessly antipated movies of the year, Star Trek Into Darkness. Unfortunately, a lot of fans saw this back in December – yes, legally – so for us it isn’t exactly new, but still! And speaking of familiar, you’ll be seeing and hearing a very familiar line from a previous-timeline Star Trek movie…

By the way, that’s not me being clever with the clip title, that’s the title given by Paramount PR. Still, I think I like it.
If you’ve acquired and read the movie prequel comic, you’ll also note a familiar theme arising in the clip. If you haven’t read or even heard about the movie prequel comic, it’s entitled Star Trek: Countdown to Darkness. I have it,...

The past week had a lot of talking points for wrestling fans: a new World Champion, a referenced John Cena “heel-turn” and the best crowd in recent history. However there was one glaring omission from the show – a non-appearance from Brock Lesnar.
After much initial speculation as to why he wasn’t there, The Wrestling Observer Newsletter is now reporting that The Rock was scheduled to be assaulted by Brock sometime during Raw to set up their rumoured Wrestlemania XXX match. The angle was quickly forgotten after The Rock had to return to Miami because of the injuries he suffered in his WM29 match with Cena. According to the Observer’s sources, Rock was the one who came up with the angle to establish the feud.

The Undertaker is backstage at Monday Night Raw in Buffalo, New York and will be appearing tonight in some fashion to set up a Wrestlemania bout against Cm Punk according to a spoiler released by Mike Johnson on his PWInsider website just now.
Tonight’s episode of Raw will have an Old School theme with classic intro, music, set design and ring (with red, white and blue ropes) and will feature several former talents including Haxsaw Jim Duggan, Mene Gene Okerland, Triple H and The New Age Outlaws. Despite the fun theme to the event top story lines will continue to be built as Wrestlemania 29 gets ever closer.
After his promo last week in which he described himself as “an icon” and a “God” it was believed the seeds had finally been sewn for The Undertaker’s return and if PWInsider is correct then it looks like tonight is the night at last.

Various and sundry thoughts from the mind of Mindy this week:
The USS Enterprise (Cvn-65), the eighth U.S. Navy vessel to bear that name, was decommissioned this week after 50 years of service. The world’s first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier made her maiden voyage on January 12, 1962 and her first mission was tracking and monitoring the first orbital flight of Project Mercury, with Lt. Col. John Glenn aboard the Friendship 7 capsule. In popular culture, the Enterprise was the home base of Lt. Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Tom Cruise) in Top Gun, with the late director Tony Scott filming and incorporating flight deck operations into the film, and it was the flagship of the U.S. Navy fleet participating in The Hunt For Red October.
Then, of course, there is Star Trek – and did you know that Gene Roddenberry’s original starship name was the USS Yorktown? But the fame and status of...

Bleeding Cool has posted Idw Publishing's solicitations for their January 2013 comic books, and one of the comics included is the first issue of a prequel miniseries for Paramount Pictures' Star Trek Into Darkness, J.J. Abrams' highly anticipated follow-up to his Trek reboot. Back in 2009, a miniseries that led into the first Star Trek was published, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that the sequel would get a similar series. The four issue miniseries, titled Star Trek: Countdown To Darkness, features a story by Roberto Orci (co-writer/producer of both of Abrams' movies) and Mike Johnson (who's also currently writing Idw's Star Trek ongoing series, which takes place in the Abrams movie universe), as well as art by Star Trek: Countdown artist David Messina. To check out Idw's full list of their January 2013 solicitations, click the link below. The countdown to the motion picture event of 2013 begins here,...

Idw Publishing's Star Trek series will lay the ground for the forthcoming movie sequel. The ongoing title reimagines episodes from the original Star Trek series through the lens of Jj Abrams's movie continuity, with screenwriter Roberto Orci assisting on the tales. "The hints are not the kind that will spoil anything in the movie," Johnson told Newsarama. "They are more retroactive, in the sense that after you see the movie you can go (more)...

The proliferation of movie sequels, prequels, requels and reboots over the years has resulted in the declaration that original ideas in Hollywood are dead by more than a few cynical cinema chroniclers. Not that those cynics need any more ammunition for their argument considering that this weekend's top three movies are a sequel to a movie from 1982 (Tron: Legacy), an adaptation of a cartoon that first debuted in 1958 (Yogi Bear), and the third chapter in a movie franchise adaptation of a book series originally published in the '50s (The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader), but it now appears that yet another adaptation of the Wizard of Oz books by famed author L. Frank Baum is in the works.
