As I said I would a month ago, when it was announced that writer/director Thomas Ikimi had reunited with Idris Elba for a Fox hour-long drama series titled "The Crusaders," which the network has put into development, let's revisit the last time Elba and Ikimi worked together - the 2010 feature film titled "Legacy" which is currently available on various home video platforms; a film that I don't think many of you have seen, and that is rarely, if ever, discussed in conversations about Elba's past work and abilities as a actor. Elba stars as Black Ops soldier Malcolm Gray. Having barely survived a botched mission in Eastern Europe, he takes...

Awesome news for Thomas Ikimi! I raved about his feature film debut way back in 2010 - the psych thriller, "Legacy" which also starred Idris Elba by the way, as Black Ops soldier Malcolm Gray who, having barely survived a botched mission in Eastern Europe, takes sanctuary in a Brooklyn motel room, brooding on the guilty legacy of his past actions. Now Ikimi and Elba are teaming up again for a Fox hour-long drama series titled "The Crusaders," which the network has put into development. Ikimi, penned "The Crusaders" which follows "an extended family of second-generation Africans living in the USA who specialize in...

Director/writer: Thomas Ikimi.
Legacy or Legacy: Black Ops is a psychological thriller released in North America in theatres October 15th and on DVD December 28th, 2010. The film stars Idris Elba (28 Weeks Later), Julian Wadham (Outpost) and Mem Ferda (The Devil's Double), in director Thomas Ikimi's debut film. Legacy begins in the action thriller genre, but quickly switches to psychological thriller, as Malcolm Gray (Elba) cannot leave one special mission behind. The result is a slow burn, with some intriguing yet convoluted messages.
Gray is sent on an espionage mission to prevent a sarin gas attack on the eastcoast of the United States. He is caught tortured and returned home a former shell of himself. Here, the remainder of the film is shot within one dingy room, while Gray moans of operation "Dark Hammer." The cramped confines of the set are reduced due to a limited budget and the...

I should have mentioned this earlier, but I’m only not becoming aware of it…
It was out on DVD in December… a film I’ve given lots of pixels to on this site – Thomas Ikimi’s Legacy, starring Idris Elba.
It’s also now available On Demand and via Netflix’s instant streaming option. So, you can watch it right now, if you have a Netflix account, and haven’t already. You’re just 2 or 3 clicks away 90 minutes with Malcolm Gray.
A quick recap… the psychological thriller, centers on Idris Elba as Black Ops soldier Malcolm Gray. Having barely survived a botched mission in Eastern Europe, he takes sanctuary in a New York motel room. Brooding on the guilty legacy of his past actions, he replays events in his mind as he focuses on the seemingly inexorable rise of his smooth-talking brother Darnell (Eamonn Walker), a ruthlessly ambitious, fear-mongering...

One of the UK’s biggest and brightest imports, Idris Elba, further establishes himself as a major transatlantic talent in this tale of an ex-soldier whose wartime demons begin to get the better of him.
The Wire star is Malcolm Gray, a member of an elite Black Ops unit whose team are overpowered and captured in a stylish pre-credit opening sequence. The rest of the action then takes place in a grubby Brooklyn hotel room where the now-freed Gray is holed up. Mentally and physically scarred from his time in captivity, he’s a changed man from his earlier incarnation as a gleefully aggressive soldier, and in an attempt to atone for past indiscretions, begins compiling evidence and recording video journals in which he places blame of his team’s double-cross on that of his ambitious, hard-line senator brother (Eamonn Walker).
As he begins to receive visitors from his past (including this brother’s wife,...

Legacy: Black Ops is an exercise in claustrophobic tension studying the effect of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder on a soldier returning to civilisation after undergoing torture at the hands of the enemy. Made on a budget of just $500,000 the film was written and directed by newcomer Thomas Ikimi and stars The Wire’s Idris Elba who gives an acting tour de force in the lead role.
Legacy: Black Ops is released on Blu-ray and DVD from Monday. Here is our review…
Malcolm Gray (Elba), a celebrated soldier specialising in black ops is taken hostage and tortured whilst taking part in a failed mission. On release he is unable to come to terms with the experience. Legacy: Black Ops **
Stars: Idris Elba, Eamonn Walker, William Hope, Monique Gabriela Curnen | Written and Directed by Thomas Ikimi
The psychological ramifications of war make for engaging and thought-provoking viewing when done properly (Born On The Fourth Of July, The Deer Hunter and Apocalypse Now all feature characters with Ptsd symptoms). Legacy attempts to get into the mind of a combat veteran who has done unspeakable things but while the premise is interesting, it falls short in delivering a satisfying cinema experience.
Idris Elba stars as Malcolm Gray, a decorated soldier part of an undercover team codenamed Dark Hammer, who specialise in pre-emptive strikes against civilian targets, all in the name of freedom, democracy and other such ironic ideals. After finally tracking down a Ukrainian with a stockpile of sarin gas, the operation goes badly wrong resulting in his squad’s capture and his horrific torture.

"Huckelberry Finn" is behind the 2011 Hollywood Hot Assistants List. Turns out it's an assistant at Rko who asked that I not post his name. "The list started as a practical joke and then just kind of blew up," he emails me. "People actually started voting from across the tracking boards and tons of votes came in." The purpose is to name who's most promising career-wise (and looks-wise, which Deadline will ignore) and to "aid executives in the hiring process" for film/TV. The day has come and you can take in one the best indie films I saw this year on the trail, and certainly a performance worthy of Oscar consideration. Legacy, the new film from Thomas Ikimi and starring the brilliant Idris Elba as ex Black-Ops agent Malcolm Gray, is opening in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, D.C., and Elizabeth, N.J. today, with more cities hopefully to come. You can find more ticket information here. I was fortunate enough to catch this film at The Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year and also have a lengthy conversation with...

If you've ever seen The Wire (and if you haven't, what are you waiting for? It's only the best TV series ever), you've had the chance to appreciate the talents of one Idris Elba as Stringer Bell, the drug dealer with businessman aspirations. You've also had the chance to be shocked that the British Elba can be so convincing in such an archetypically American role. Post-The Wire, Elba hasn't found a role as iconic as Bell, or one that showcases the full range of his talents (and the campy pleasures of the Beyonce Knowles and Ali Larter catfight over Elba in Obsessed don't count). Make up for that this Friday, where you have a chance to check out Elba in the virtually-one-man and one-room show Legacy, in the role of Malcolm Gray, a Black Ops soldier in pursuit of a corrupt politician - who happens to be his brother.

Legacy Movie PosterLondon's eighteenth Raindance Film Festival will host an assortment of thrillers, and chillers, with this year's event hosting over 200 titles. Since we’re screening the film tonight, I thought I’d again share my review, which I originally posted back in April, after seeing the it at the Tribeca Film Festival. Here ya go…
So there I was, at the premiere of Thomas Ikimi’s taut thriller, Legacy, sitting about 6 rows from the stage, anxious to screen the film, and none other than Armond White walks past me, taking a seat a few rows ahead. If you’ve been reading this blog over the last year, you’ll know why this is worth mentioning
Also seated close by was Warrington Hudlin, who seemed to enjoy the film, unlike Armond White, who got up and walked out about 30 minutes in. I didn’t see him return! Obviously, I can’t say why he walked out; maybe he had to use the bathroom, and upon returning, took one of the seats in the rear,...

This … is not gonna end well for Idris Elba (soon to hit the bigtime as the new Alex Cross). You can almost see the tragic ending just by watching these two trailers for Elba’s new movie, the thriller “Legacy” from writer/director Thomas Ikimi.Nevertheless, the film looks like one hell of a tightly paced, atmospheric thriller, and I’m glad to see Ikimi do another film after 2004′s low-budget “Limbo”, one of those films that looks a million bucks better than its actual budget. Theatrical trailer (Cinemablend) and a 4-minute extended promo trailer for Elba’s “Legacy” below. Since gaining wide-spread acclaim for his role as .Stringer. Bell on HBO.s The Wire, British actor Idris Elba has quickly established himself as fantastic actor. Thus far, he has largely taken supporting roles, be it as Mumbles in Rocknrolla, Tango in American Gangster or, most recently Roque in The Losers. But with the one-man show he puts on in Thomas Ikimi.s Legacy it is abundantly clear how scary talented the man really is. Malcolm Gray (Elba) is a former black ops officer who is living in a run down Brooklyn apartment. Years earlier, while hunting down an elusive arms and weapons dealer, a mission went horribly wrong that led to Gray being captured and tortured. In his work he has been responsible for some horrible crimes under his unit, and now, back after being away for so long, he is ready to expose the man that has been...

In Thomas Ikimi's second full-length feature, Legacy, Idris Elba plays Malcolm Gray, a traumatized former soldier whose secret Black Ops mission in Europe turned out very badly, indeed. Tortured brutally with the scars to prove it, Gray is eventually released from a military hospital and returns to New York to mull over what went wrong. Specifically, he begins to obsess over the person behind the mission: his brother (Eamonn Walker), a high-powered Senator known for waging an aggressive war against terror on Us soil who took advantage of Malcolm's disappearance to marry Malcolm's ex, Valentina (Monique Gabriela Curnen). When it comes to filming almost an entire movie in one room, Elba said, "It was an easier process for me to keep some sort of continuity with this character. Luckily for us, because we were in one room, we were allowed to shoot the film chronologically," so again, it was...

0 false 18 pt 18 pt 0 0 false false false The Tribeca Film Festival is currently gearing up with a full schedule of films now available for your perusal online. We've gone through the festival's massive slate and picked out a small handful of films that we think might be worth your attention this year. There's also a fairly good international horror presence this year and we've included a few highlights from that genre as well.
You can check out the full schedule and pick up tickets at Tribeca's official site.
Blood and Rain: In Jorge Navas' beautifully composed neo-noir, taxi driver Jorge begins his night shift bent on revenge after his brother's murder at the hands of a violent gang. But when an accident brings him unexpectedly closer to his party-girl fare Angela, the damaged pair must struggle against forces already set in motion, drawing them inexorably into the rain-soaked underworld of Bogotá.

Welcome to Trailer Watch, a new feature for the weekend, where we compile a bunch of indie and not so big name trailers for some fantastic movies. Originally this was tried out here on FusedFilm as a video series called The Tease, but that faded due to the lack scheduling and timing making this version much better to do. However this may reevolve into that series.
Many may not realize that movie trailers have now become extremely popular on the Internet. Of some 10-billion videos watched online annually, movie trailers rank #3, after news and user-created video (which sometimes features fan made trailers). So having a feature like this just makes sense.
Legacy - Teaser # 1
First up we have a trailer for Legacy, starring Idris Elba, who a lot more people will get to know soon in the upcoming film The Losers. Although The Wire fans already know him. The trailer...

Profiled a few times already on this blog is Black Brit filmmaker Thomas Ikimi’s second feature, which stars Idris Elba & Eamonn Walker, titled Legacy. Click Here to read all our previous posts on the project.
Via his Twitter page, Thomas revealed that Legacy will screen at the upcoming Tribeca Film Festival, which runs from April 22nd through May 2nd.
Great news, with the festival in my backyard, you know I’m going to be at the screening, one way or another, with a review to follow on this blog soon thereafter!
A quick recap… the psychological thriller, which made its world premiere at the Glasgow Film Festival last month, centers on Idris Elba, who stars as Black Ops soldier Malcolm Gray. Having barely survived a botched mission in Eastern Europe, he takes sanctuary in a New York motel room. Brooding on the guilty legacy of his past actions, he...

The Thomas Ikimi-directed, Idris Elba-starring psychological thriller, Legacy, has officially been selected as the closing night gala film at the Glasgow Film Festival, on February 25th, which will be the film’s world premiere.
I’ve previously profiled the film on this blog, which you can read about Here, which includes pics and posters.
Elba stars as Black Ops soldier Malcolm Gray. Having barely survived a botched mission in Eastern Europe, he takes sanctuary in a Brooklyn motel room. Brooding on the guilty legacy of his past actions, he replays events in his mind as he focuses on the seemingly inexorable rise of his smooth-talking brother Darnell (Eamonn Walker), a ruthlessly ambitious, fear-mongering senator with his sights firmly set on the White House.

Rising star Idris Elba seems to be the man of the moment. Last week it was announced he would be joining the cast of Marvel’s Thor, then the first photos of his action movie The Losers were made public, and now the concept posters for his upcoming film Legacy have made their way online.
The film’s official Twitter page have released three concept posters which appear to be something of a rarity as they are not simply airbrushed photographs or photoshopped floating heads on a black background, but rather actual artistic posters.
Idris Elba not only stars in Legacy but is the film’s executive producer. Written and directed by young British Nigerian filmmaker Thomas Ikimi, Legacy co-stars Eamonn Walker (Lord of War), Monique Gabriela Curnen (The Dark Knight), Richard Brake (Batman Begins), and Clarke Peters (The Wire).

Is it fair to compare a young, second time film maker with one of cinema's all time greats? No, of course it's not. But if Thomas Ikimi's ultra low budget debut Limbo wasn't enough to convince you that he has aspersions towards making the same sort of high concept thrillers that made Hitchcock famous, well, a quartet of concept posters for his sophomore effort are here to make that point clear. Titled Legacy, the film stars The Wire's Idris Elba in the lead and the just-released poster art has that classic Saul Bass influence all over it.
Here's the press release that went out went we first covered the film back in May:
Black Camel Pictures are delighted to announce that on May 11th 2009 they began principal photography on their new Us set psychological thriller Legacy starring Idris Elba (Obsessed, The Wire) who also Executive Produces. Legacy was...

We first became aware of writer-director Thomas Ikimi a couple years back when fueled by passion, credit cards and stacks of raw talent he burst on to the scene with Limbo, a purely independent psychological thriller that marked Ikimi as a fairly significant new talent to keep an eye on and prompted me to wonder openly just what the man would be capable if he had access to a seasoned crew and stable of experienced actors. Well, we’re about to find out since Ikimi is now in principal photography on his new feature, Legacy, which stars and is executive produced by The Wire‘s Idris Elba who is quickly carving out a niche for himself as one of the most talented and reliable character players going.
