Update: In addition to being available on Hulu, the classic Bruce WIllis/ Cybill Shepherd series, Moonlighting, is now coming to digital retailers like iTunes and more. So if you want to own a digital copy of the show, now’s your chance. One caveat: no news on whether the show will be available in Canada, with it still absent from Disney Star here north of the border, making it seem like the music rights are keeping the show from being more widely available.
Original Post: Do bears bear? Do bees be? Does a Hulu subscription sound enticing now that Moonlighting is finally coming to the streaming platform? That’s right, you detectives of romance! All 67 episodes of the classic comedy series starring Bruce Willis and Cybill Shepherd will be available to stream on the service beginning on October 10, 2023.

It’s been a decade of reminiscence and reflection for Bruce Springsteen. He’s revisited classic albums on tour, retold his life story on the page and Broadway stage, and written songs about late childhood friends. Even when he released 2020’s Letter to You, his first proper E Street Band record in years, he used some of his earliest Seventies songs as source material.
Only the Strong Survive, his new album of reverent soul and R&b covers, arrives in this same spirit of nostalgic recollection for the 73-year-old. The...

When looking at Grammy nominations for 2022, you might notice that there are a few cover songs nominated. As per Grammy rules, a cover can only be submitted in a performance category or in an arrangement category; they’re not eligible for songwriting since they were written in a previous eligibility period, or sometimes before the Grammys were even created. This year I think three covers seem to be in a good position to win: Jason Isbell’s “All I Do is Drive,” Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga’s “I Get a Kick Out of You,” and Chris Cornell’s “Nothing Compares 2 U.” But just how common is it for covers to prevail?
Country is one of the fields with the most covers winning. A few of the most recent wins have included “Gentle On My Mind” by The Band Perry (originally performed by John Hartford), “Wagon Wheel” by Darius Rucker...

A perky kids’ distraction from Netflix Animation, “Back to the Outback” is at pains to remind its audience throughout of its very Australian credentials, sometimes to endearing effect. It’s hard to be too hard on any film that features a voice cameo from Kylie Minogue as a nattering razorback boar, or one that requires Eric Bana to deliver the line, “I once captured 10 Komodo dragons with no more than a pair of budgie smugglers and a bit of Vegemite.” Yet the longer this crayon-bright tale of zoo animals adrift in the great Aussie outdoors wears on, the less distinctive it seems, its script’s naked cribbing from “Madagascar” and sundry Pixar chase narratives betraying it as yet another attempt to emulate the house styles of DreamWorks and Disney. As such, Clare Knight and Harry Cripps’ film walks the walk well enough. But there’s a funnier, more eccentric adventure underneath it all,...

A going-away party, a split of a different nature and some well-played Percy Sledge defined Sunday night’s Season 2 finale of Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist on NBC.
However, it wasn’t a pretty tune for the 10 Pm musical dramedy when it comes to the ratings. Pulling in a 0.2 among adults 18-49 and 1.2 million viewers, the Jane Levy-led show matched a series low in the key demo and its third-lowest audience yet in the early results, according to Nielsen.
Or, in another context, the end of Zoey’s second season was down a harsh 50% from its Season 1 finale of May 3, 2020. The show slide 25% from its May 9th “Zoey’s Extraordinary Session” episode.

ESPN Films’ 20-hour, six-week documentary “Basketball: A Love Story” more resembles a modern rom-com than your typical documentary. Rather than a chronological history lesson, it’s an episodic collection of anecdotes and stories that in some ways have more in common with “Love, Actually” than Ken Burns’ completist “Baseball.”
The film weaves through the heartbreaking story of paralyzed player Maurice Stokes and his dedicated teammate Jack Twyman to the bitter women’s basketball rivalry of Tennessee’s Pat Summit and Connecticut’s Geno Auriemma to tales of UCLA’s rise, the Dream Team, the Magic/Bird rivalry, the Aba and the emergence of international stars in the NBA with plenty of stops in-between.

In a development as unfortunate as it is unsurprising, Kacey Musgraves is the only female artist up for Album of the Year at the 52nd annual Cma Awards, which announced its nominees on Tuesday. Musgraves — whose acclaimed third full-length Golden Hour is in the running with releases from Chris Stapleton, Keith Urban, Thomas Rhett and Dierks Bentley — is also, by little coincidence, the only artist in that group that fans can still catch in the intimacy of a 686-capacity theater in Northern Alabama.

Percy Sledge was the first person to sing When A Man Loves A Woman, but over the years there were a few issues that had to be hammered out in order for the true ownership of the song to come to light. The song itself is a great track that really grants a lot of emotion and feeling to come through and has been sung by a few different people throughout it’s history. It’s been used in serious movies and spoofs alike to great effect and has even been the defining song for a few programs. It’s definitely a song

After the song became a hit, Sledge refused to fight for his share of the credit, but the experience left him with mixed emotions. No disrespect to the incomparable Ryan Seacrest, but perhaps for one week only, American Idol should’ve replaced him with an auctioneer?
Tonight’s one-hour telecast — which featured Season 14’s Top 12 guys performing for only eight available slots next Wednesday — was paced so frenetically it made Usain Bolt look like a three-legged tortoise.

Well, it's fair to say that last week's result on Strictly Come Dancing was a bit of a shocker. Now we've lost Pixie, there are only five couples left in the competition - and as if her surprise goodbye hadn't added enough pressure, they'll each be performing two new routines on Saturday night. Er, good luck, guys.
But what will they be dancing? And which songs have they got? Read on for the full list for the semi-final...

Director Greg Camalier seems to think there is something in the water, the source being the supposed ‘singing’ Tennessee River which runs through the musical enigma that is Muscle Shoals, Alabama. His first feature meditates on the rippling water, the green overgrowth and the surrounding cotton fields as a sort of visual counterpart to the legendary list of hit songs that, to the world at large during the ‘60s, seemed to spring from some kind of southern ether as if the stuff of native folklore. Though occasionally hokey and perpetually shaky in structure, Muscle Shoals soundly, but episodically documents the platinum recording history of the rinky-dink rural town, it’s tragic, hard-headed forefather Rick Hall, and the contentious relationships between his own Fame Studios, big time producer Jerry Wexler and the eventual start up Muscle Shoals Sound Studio just across town.

★★★☆☆Muscle Shoals, which lends its name to Greg Camalier's doc, is an Alabama city based on the southern banks of the Tennessee River (population 12,000). Back in the fifties it was even smaller, a rural smudge on the map, but it was in the neighbouring town of Sheffield that record producer Rick Hall opened the Fame recording studios. Hall - with a team of session musicians - started pumping out tracks for the likes of Jimmy Hughes (who provided the studio with their first hit), Wilson Picket and Percy Sledge. Atlantic Records' Jerry Wexler would send Hall his artistes until a bust-up with Aretha Franklin led to a life-long feud.

How’s this for a nifty twist of fate?
As college student Matthew Schuler found himself getting hooked on Season 3 of The Voice — and getting inspired by eventual winner Cassadee Pope — he also found himself becoming enamored with the music and life story of British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran.
“He left his home at 16 and went to London to really pursue his dream,” Schuler explains. “And I got to thinking, ‘Ed Sheeran’s the man, he’s super young and he’s a beast.’ I knew if I wanted to really make a career out of this, I had to start...

It's one thing to perform one of your coach's career-defining songs; it's yet another to do it powerfully and earn her full blessing.
That's what New Jersey teen Jacquie Lee did Monday night on The Voice when she tackled Christina Aguilera's coming-of-age ballad "The Voice Within" with a vocal range rivaling her own coach, who was feeling their connection.
"I do find so many similarities in you, not only as a vocalist but as a person," a beaming Aguilera told Lee. "It's a struggle to find yourself, so young, in this business … I wrote this song when I was...

Might there finally be a clear frontrunner on this season of The Voice? Because Cole Vosbury has had a pretty solid showing on the iTunes songs chart every week since viewer voting began (this week he's virtually neck and neck with Tessanne Chin, who's at the head of the class for the very first time). At the very least, he is the dark horse to keep an eye on – especially because he hails from three-time winner Blake Shelton's team. (Plus, there's the whole Duck Dynasty vibe he gives off with that broom-like beard.

When competing on a show like "The Voice," you always want to take on music that the audience loves and is familiar with, but there's always an inherent risk in tackling music by groups with particularly rabid fan bases. Just ask Matthew Schuler.
On Monday's (Dec. 2) episode of the hit NBC reality show, Schuler opted to dedicate One Direction's "Story of My Life" to his family, but speaking with Zap2it backstage afterwards, he admitted he was aware his decision could backfire. "It was definitely intense," he says. "I knew going into it, singing One Direction is always a risk because they have the biggest fan base in the world, so I didn't want the Directioners coming to kill me if I didn't do it justice. But it was fun. I got to put my own spin on it and dedicate it to my family, you know? They've always...

When it comes to warm fuzzies, good vibrations and positive feedback, The Voice has a coaching panel that’s second to none.
Nevertheless, if you listen verrrrry carefully, you can hear their withering subtext, their coded messages to the viewing public in favor of one contestant or in opposition to another.
Take Blake Shelton’s repeated mentions tonight that it’s not just about hitting big notes full-on (a subtle put-down of Jacquie Lee?) or Adam Levine essentially telling Matthew Schuler he peaked with his Top 12 week cover of “Hallelujah.”

Which four acts deserve to move forward? Get our take on the evening, then cast your vote!
With only two weeks until a winner is crowned, The Voice‘s final six singers came together in perfect discord Dec. 2, vying for a spot in the season’s final five. Each singer got to tackle two songs this week, giving fans a better idea what they’re voting — or in some cases not voting — for.
Round 1: Cole Vosbury Reminds Everyone How ‘Great’ He Is
Cole Vosbury got things started on a high note with his rendition of “Rich Girl” — the Hall & Oates version, not the Gwen Stefani one — and the coaches couldn’t have been more thrilled with his performance. Even Adam Levine had to admit that Cole’s voice is, simply put, “great.”

Man, oh man, The X Factor is one hot mess of a show. But that's what makes it charming, right?

"The X Factor" kicked off its live shows on Tuesday (Oct. 29) with the judges having to make some hard choices, as each of them had to cut one of their four acts in order to form the Top 12.
The Girls
Demi Lovato and her smurf-tastic hair went first with the Girls category. Ellona Santiago performed Britney's "Till the World Ends" and it was not a great choice for her. It did not show off her voice at all and left her sounding out of breath and weak a lot of the time -- the dance moves did not help this. Not an auspicious start.
Danie Geimer was second with Miley's "Wrecking Ball," which was an interesting choice. It fit her better than Ellona's song fit Ellona, but it was off-pitch at times. Rion Paige took a risk and sang Lovato's "Skyscraper." She too was not on pitch all the...

★★★☆☆ Whilst never quite reaching the compelling heights of recent rockumentary offerings Beware of Mr. Baker, Crossfire Hurricane or Searching for Sugar Man, Greg Camalier's Sundance select Muscle Shoals (2013) succeeds in cogently relaying the star-studded history of the now iconic Alabama recording studio in question. Under the tutelage of founder Rick Hall, Fame Studios was responsible for laying down classic recordings from a whole raft of RnB and rock artists, many of whom (those still in the land of the living, at least) providing candid interviews on their time in the presence of the "Muscle Shoals sound".

It's been a stellar year for music documentaries. Twenty Feet From Stardom, A Band Called Death and Sound City have all managed to tell important stories and still be crowd-pleasing films. Much like Dave Grohl's warm and friendly portrait of the Sound City studios out in Southern California, the movie Muscle Shoals invites us to take a closer look at a studio where some of the most important recordings of all time have been created.
Rick Hall opened Fame Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama in 1960 after establishing a music publishing business. With a life-altering personal tragedy behind him, he focused all of his energy into the studio and truly got hooked by producing local and regional artists. Shortly after Percy Sledge recorded "When A Man Loves A Woman" at Fame in 1966, the floodgates opened and the studio become a destination for Jerry Wexler at Atlantic Records to bring his...

"Now Muscle Shoals has got the Swampers," Ronnie Van Zant sang on the Southern rock anthem "Sweet Home Alabama." "And they've been known to pick a song or two."
For many, it was the first time they'd heard of Muscle Shoals, Ala., or the studio band that made first Fame Studios, and then the competing Muscle Shoal Sound Studios, legendary locales in American music.
This dinky little berg on the Tennessee River was the home to musicians, producers and studios that launched everyone from Aretha Franklin to the Allman Brothers, Percy Sledge to Jimmy Cliff. Everybody who was anybody in music from the 1960s through the '80s did transformative work there. And even today music's best and historically brightest make the pilgrimage to the little town on the Alabama / Tennessee state line to record and soak up a little of that gritty, funky "Muscle Shoals Sound."
