40. United 93 (2006)
It takes guts to make a movie about the four terrorists that took over United Flight 93 and plagued us Americans with a day we won’t ever forget. No doubt that Paul Greengrass would have to climb an uphill battle to get this movie the way he wanted it to look but he does the film justice, more importantly the victims on this flight get supreme recognition. He makes it impossible for us to take our eyes off of the screen. The camera style throws us unto the plane of the teary eyed, enraged passengers whose emotions are unexplainable. Its heart-wrenching seeing the passengers come as one and do what they have to do, risking their lives to save »

Bloody Disgusting has got your first look at the one sheet for Anchor Bay's The New Daughter, which has been dumped in limited theaters across this country this weekend. You'll find the poster below along with a list of dates. Directed by Luis Berdejo, Kevin Costner stars as John James, a single father who moves to a house in the country with his two children following a painful divorce. Soon, however, his adolescent daughter (Ivana Baquero from Pan's Labyrinth) begins acting strangely, and the household is plagued by disturbing events. John begins to suspect that the mysterious mound at the edge of the forest may have something to do with her ominous behavior. »

We've seen Kevin Costner in a lot of different types of films... but not a lot of horror. That changes in January and he returns to the big screen in his new flick "The New Daughter "
The official synopsis for the movie reads like this:
"Costner will play John James, a single father who moves to a farm with his two kids after a painful divorce. Soon, his daughter (Ivana Baquero of "Pan's Labyrinth") starts behaving ominously, and Dad begins to suspect that the burial mound in a nearby field might have something to do with it. "
The project opens in limited release on January 1st... so if you've recovered from the previous night's festivities, you might want to get out there and check it out.
The good folks over at Bloody Disgusting got a shot of the official poster that you can take a look at here:

Remember when Kevin Coster was considered by Hollywood to be a huge box office draw? No? Well it's true. And even if Costner's star appeal is on the decline, I'm still surprised to hear his new thriller, The New Daughter, is getting an extremely limited release. Tomorrow.
Shock Till You Drop found out that New Line Cinema (Warner Bros. by default, I guess?) will be dumping the film in just a few theaters in Austin, Texas and, according to Shock, the Dobie Theaters.
The New Daughter is sourced from a John Connolly novel. According to the Gold Circle Films site, Costner plays John James, a single father who moves to a house in the country with his two children following a painful divorce. Soon, however, his adolescent daughter (Ivana Baquero of Pan's Labyrinth) begins acting strangely, and the household is plagued by disturbing events. John begins to suspect that the »

Perhaps I spoke too soon in my Mia Horror Checklist for the year. It appears Anchor Bay Entertainment's The New Daughter , a supernatural thriller starring Kevin Costner, is opening in an extremely limited release tomorrow . Our man in Austin, Texas tells us it's playing down there. Upon further inspection, I found it will run at the Dobie Theatres. Co-starring Pan's Labyrinth 's Ivana Baquero, Costner plays a single father who moves to a farm with his two kids after a painful divorce. Soon, his daughter starts behaving ominously, and dad begins to suspect that the burial mound in a nearby field might have something to do with it. Gold Circle produced. Peculiar this one is getting dumped. It's the second genre film of the season, behind Blood Creek , to get released »

At indieWIRE, Peter Knegt’s "For Your Consideration: 25 Things The Academy Got Right In The 2000s." Here are three snippets: 6 nominations and 3 wins for Pan’s Labyrinth (above, with Maribel Verdú and Ivana Baquero) "… still managed to defy Academy tastes by taking the second most wins of any film in 2006 (after The Departed) and third most nominations …" 8 nominations and 2 wins for Milk "While some saw this a result of the film’s considerable mainstream appeal, it remains that Milk was written and directed by gay men and dealt explicitly with a pivotal moment in the gay rights movement." 10 nominations and 4 awards for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon "While it remains quite saddening that in the end, [...] »

Tideland is Terry Gilliam's adaptation of Mitch Cullin's novel of the same title. The film follows a short period in the life of a young pre-pubescent girl, Jeliza-Rose. At the outset of the film, Jeliza-Rose is living with her hipster parents. Middle age hippy rockers for whom the party never stopped, and consequently both are now badly strung-out on heroine. We only get to know her mother, played by the "milfalicous" Jennifer Tilly briefly, as she is pretty quickly the victim of an overdose. Rather than face up to what has happened, Jeliza-Rose's father Noah, played by Jeff Bridges, decides to flee to the prairies where he was raised with his young daughter in tow. Once they arrive at the home of Noah’s now deceased mother. Noah decides it's time for a little chemical vacation of his own, but sadly he, too, is never to wake.
