Over the weekend, Skelton and her professional dance partner Marquez competed against Fleur East and Vito Coppola, Molly Rainford and Carlos Gu, Hamza Yassin and Jowita Przystal in the Strictly final.
Yassin and Przystal were crowned the winners of the 20th series.
Skelton, 39, opened up about her disappointment at losing the competition during Monday morning’s episode (19 December) of Lorraine.
“I just wanted to make my kids proud. Every day I’ve been going to work they’d been asking, ‘Are you going to win the Glitterball, mummy?’” said the Countryfile presenter.
Skelton said that while she and Marquez “didn’t quite win”, they did make “memories that will last a lifetime”.

Strictly Come Dancing star Molly Rainford has apologised to her professional partner Carlos Gu for “letting him down” after they ended up in the dance-off.
During Saturday (22 October) night’s show, the pair performed a Couple’s Choice routine to the Grange Hill theme tune as part of the night celebrating the BBC’s centenary.
However, the routine was criticised by the judges, with viewers suggesting that Rainford and Gu had been “stitched up” by the “slow” musical choice which appeared hard to dance to.
The pair, who have previously topped the Strictly leaderboard, scored 30 points and found themselves in the bottom half of the contestants.
Rainford and Gu were at risk of leaving the show after ending up in the dance-off during Sunday (23 October) night’s results show against comedian Jayde Adams and Karen Hauer.

Strictly Come Dancing fans are calling out the show for “stitching up” Molly Rainford.
Actor Rainford, who is a former Britain’s Got Talent contestant, has become one of this year’s fan favourites, but her followers were left disappointed with her latest performance.
However, instead of criticising her efforts, the failure is being attributed to the song choice and choreography, which was devised by her professional partner Carlos Gu.
Saturday’s episode (23 October) celebrated the BBC’s centenery with each celebrity dancing to a variety of popular theme tunes of show’s that have aired throughout the channel’s history.
Rainford perform a street dance to Grange Hill’s theme, which was the couples’ choice, but the result did not impress viewers.
“Not quite at her best tonight, but that might be the choreography rather than Molly’s performance,” one viewer wrote, with another agreeing: “Looked like it was...

Claudia Winkleman alluded to the chaos within the UK government on Strictly Come Dancing.
Saturday (22 October) night’s show was a BBC 100 special as part of the channel’s centenary celebrations.
During the episode, the remaining contestants danced to songs and theme tunes inspired by the BBC’s biggest shows of the last 100 years, from Doctor Who to Grange Hill.
Following James Bye’s Foxtrot to the EastEnders theme tune, host Winkleman made a cheeky dig at the last week of chaos within the government that saw Liz Truss resign as prime minister after just 44 days.
“Still to come, Hamza [Yassin] takes on a tricky ballroom dance and if he’s any good at leading, the country’s got a job for him,” she quipped.
Yassin performed a dance to celebrate the BBC’s nature programming and scored 35 points.

Saturday (22 October) night’s episode of the show was a BBC-themed special, with the remaining dancers performing to songs and theme tunes inspired by the BBC’s biggest shows over the years.
Things began with a routine by the professional dancer which started with BBC News presenter Huw Edwards explaining how Strictly was “taking over the BBC”.
“But some of us are too busy to dance,” Edwards explained. “We have some very serious work to do. Do you know what this is? This was named after me. It’s a Huw-kulele.”
The presenter was then joined by dancers Jowita PryzstaÅ. and Giovanni Pernice, while the hosts at BBC Breakfast watched on in confusion.
The professional dancers popped up in a number of BBC shows, including EastEnders, Masterchef and Antiques Roadshow.

Strictly’s first eliminated celebrity has shared an awkward encounter she had hours after being booted off the BBC series.
On Saturday (1 October), this year’s Strictly Come Dancing celebrities hit the dance floor with their professional partners.
Despite footballer Tony Adams finishing at the bottom of the leaderboard, it was Loose Women host Kaye Adams who was sent home after a dance-off with Bros singer Matt Goss.
Speaking to co-host Tess Daly after the results were announced, Adams said she thought “it was the right result”.
After the episode was recorded, Adams went back to her hotel room to decompress, and decided to order some food.
Writing on Twitter, the presenter said: “Just ordered room service in my hotel. The nice lady who brought it asked me ‘any idea who went out of @bbcstrictly tonight?’ I said ‘me’. Awkward silence.”
The replies section was flooded with fans expressing sympathy...

Strictly Come Dancing is back on our screens, with a new batch of contestants learning the art of ballroom dancing for the first time.
The BBC competition series returned on Saturday (24 September), with 15 celebrities hitting the dance floor with their pro partners for the first time.
