For producers, posts on Facebook and Twitter are seen as indicators of success – but do they influence ratings?
Not so very long ago television producers and film-makers were thrilled if their projects had the "water cooler effect" – that is to say the show, the programme or the film became a topic of conversation or chatter among people in offices, bars or the home.
Nowadays the conversations with the most clout are increasingly taking place among social network communities gathering online to take the "water cooler effect" into the twittersphere and on to the many pages of Facebook. A programme that is trending on Twitter is increasingly a currency of success or failure. Do enough people "like" your show on Facebook? Well, if not, then why not? And will your programme be a recommended "must watch" on the growing number of social network-style online television guides, such as the one offered on Freeview.

The download numbers "Doctor Who: The Adventure Games" received in the U.K. turned out to be high enough to warrant a second batch of chapters in 2011, the BBC has revealed, and even if you'll still have to pay to play in the U.S., they will be licensed for release here later on as well.
"Given the success of the first series, we'd be daft not to recomission," BBC head of multiplatform in vision Simon Nelson said in a press release. "But it's not just about the numbers; the feedback we've had has been overwhelmingly positive. Our audience has been introduced to a new form of drama — and, for many, these have been the first computer games they have downloaded. We've set new standards in audience participation — and we think we've really helped push the concept of families actively playing together. I can't wait to see what the team does next.

The canonical episodes, which will be written by established Doctor Who writers, will also feature the likenesses and voices of Matt Smith and Karen Gillan. "Given the success of the first series, we'd be daft not to recommission," said head of multiplatform Simon Nelson. After the first entry in the Doctor Who video games, "City of the Daleks," the second of the four, "Blood of the Cybermen," is being released on Saturday after "The Big Bang," the series five finale, airs. "Blood of the Cybermen," previously rumored to be titled "Winter of Terror," will feature the Cybermen in an arctic location. Why don't I let the press release describe it?

The game will be available to download from the Doctor Who website (www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho) this Saturday (26th June 2010), immediately after the thrilling TV series finale.

The BBC's first episode in their "Doctor Who: The Adventure Games" series seems to have put one success story in their hands with "City of the Daleks," and there's a follow-up coming next week, but all of these treats are still locked behind the region-protected walls of the U.K. Nevertheless, the BBC announced that they've topped the half-million download mark without having to leave the Kingdom.
"Matt Smith walks like a drunken giraffe on-screen and also in-game — it's a virtuoso virtual performance, and one I'm delighted is proving to be so popular," head "Doctor Who" writer and executive producer Steven Moffat said in a press release. "Just worried I won't get any writing done, what with playing the game all the time. Half a million download requests in 12 days — amazing."

With the advent of Doctor Who's fifth season, we've been seeing a much different Doctor. He's newer, younger, more aggressive, and… more pixellated?
You heard me right, folks. Our Eleventh Doctor (Matt Smith) will soon be taking on a completely new visage. One that's a little less Time Lordian and a little more computer-generated. That's because the Doctor and his companion Amy (Karen Gillan) will be making the leap to video games before the fifth season of the series is over, according to BBC News.
Though the title (Doctor Who: The Adventure Games) is not so creative, the idea certainly is. This game won't be your peripheral, non-canon entry, like Lost: Via Domus. No, they'll be completely canon, according to executive producer Piers Wenger. “There aren’t 13 episodes of Doctor Who this year. There are 17 – four of which are interactive.”

Long running TV series, "EastEnders," a British soap institution, will launch a spinoff online show aimed at the "Skins" fans. Variety reported that the 13-part "EastEnders: E20," a reference to the London zip code, will hit after the "EastEnders" 25th anniversary in February.
