Ellen Holly, the first Black person to star in a soap opera with her lead role on One Life to Live, died Wednesday at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx, N.Y. She was 92 and died in her sleep.
Her first roles on television included appearances on The Big Story (1957), The Defenders (1963), Sam Benedict (1963), Dr. Kildare (1964) and The Doctors and the Nurses (1963 and 1964).
Holly played the groundbreaking character Carla Gray on the hit ABC show One Life to Live from 1968 to 1980 and 1983 to 1985. She was personally chosen for the role by television producer Agnes Nixon after she saw a New York Times opinion piece that Holly wrote, called “How Black Do You Have To Be?” about the difficulty of finding roles as a light-skinned Black woman.
Holly was born on January 16, 1931, in Manhattan to parents William Garnet Holly, a chemical engineer, and Grayce Holly, a housewife and writer.

Do not adjust your monitors, and listen closely to Tony Hale‘s mellifluous voice as he guides you through a meditation that will leave you feeling light as a feather and do wonders for your self-esteem. I’m talking about an exclusive clip for episode 6 of The Mysterious Benedict Society Season 2, featuring Hale’s Dr. Curtain and Marta Kessler’s Constance Contraire.
In The Mysterious Benedict Society exclusive clip, Constance tunes in to a PSA hosted by Dr. Curtain, urging viewers to relax and give themselves over to the power of positive thinking. While Dr. L.D. Curtain (Hale) promises viewers a pathway to unbridled happiness; fans of the show know better than to take the untrustworthy villain at his word. As Constance’s eyes begin drooping, we can see her falling into a trance, which could spell trouble for the whip-smart troublemaker and her misfit friends.

Nicola Coughlan has reminded Bridgerton fans that she’s simply “doing acting” after facing criticism over the forthcoming third season.
The next season of Netflix’s period drama will focus on Coughlan’s Penelope Featherington – Aka Lady Whistledown – and her budding romance with Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton).
This will be the first time the show has strayed from the order of Julia Quinn’s romance novels, as the third book is about Benedict (Luke Thompson), while Colin and Penelope’s story takes place in the fourth book.
On Sunday (2 October), Coughlan responded to a fan who claimed it was “ridiculous” that the show was prioritising Penelope’s story, given the character had “ruined everyone’s lives” with her behaviour as the gossip pamphleteer Lady Whistledown.
Transposing herself onto the comment on Instagram Stories, Coughlan explained: “Loads of people get mad at me for things Penelope did, but I really didn...

It's official: season two of "Firefly Lane" is coming soon. The series follows two best friends named Tully (Katherine Heigl) and Kate (Sarah Chalke) and the ups and downs they've faced through the years. It's basically everything you love about soapy dramas like "Sweet Magnolias" and "Virgin River," with a twist of "This Is Us."
Unfortunately, the second season will be the series' last, Netflix revealed on Oct. 3. The final season will consist of a total of 16 episodes split into two parts.
Since the last episode of the first season ends on a major cliffhanger, we're already curious to know what will happen next. And given that it's based on Kristin Hannah's book series of the same name, there's plenty of inspiration to draw from. While there's no telling how closely the second season will follow the second book, "Fly Away," there are still plenty of storylines to explore in future episodes.
