“Audiences like to see the chararcters move through the real locations. You can’t replicate that on a stage.”
The rise of virtual production and the use of techniques such as LED volume walls may be useful, but there is always be a need for physical locations, said leading international location professionals at the inaugural Mediterrane Film Festival in Malta this week.

The Location Guide recently sat down with Joseph Formosa Randon, the location manager for “Assassin’s Creed”.
Randon revealed the locations that were chosen for the live action adaptation. “Valletta, Fort Deimara, Fort Ricasoli and Fort Manoel made the final location list and all were for period pieces”.
Randon went into detail on the specific locations.
“The entire Malta shoot was in the four previously mentioned locations, by far the most complex were the various areas within Valletta. I don’t know if you know Malta, but Valletta is the capital, very busy with businesses, lots of residents, narrow streets, limited parking – all the usual fun stuff. We more or less took over, closing main streets for a couple of weeks and transformed it all into 15th Century Seville. As well as streets we used very sensitive locations within Valletta: the Grand Master’s Palace, The National Library and St.
