Ali Larter is the only bright spot of this western noir that seems familiar right down to the cod Cormac McCarthy voiceover
This modern western is a case of Mo’ Country for Old Men, though not in an especially good way. An unusually sedate Ron Perlman takes the Tommy Lee Jones old-timer sheriff role, and Ali Larter substitutes for Josh Brolin in fleeing across the south-western scrub. Which would make Ralph Ineson’s criminal scumbag the Javier Bardem/Anton Chigurh equivalent, backed up by his penchant for creosote-throated, metaphysical ruminations in a voiceover that comes off like dimestore Cormac McCarthy: “People playing us like pawns on a chessboard. But what happens if those pawns don’t do as they’re told?”
With the influence weighing heavy, debut director Naveen A Chathapuram rigs up a creaking jalopy of storylines. Local badboy Jake (Ineson) kills a loose-tongued associate in a late-night diner,...

While staring glassy-eyed at interminably long stretches of “The Last Victim,” I was reminded of a ‘60s variety show sketch I viewed during my adolescence. The premise of the skit: Producers of some returning fall shows were told at the last minute that their series had been expanded from 30 to 60 minutes, and they had to stretch scripts that had already been written. So everything — walking down hallways, rifling through files, preparing coffee, everything — was done very, very slowly. The sketch, as I recall, was amusing. “The Last Victim” is not. At least, not intentionally.
The latest in a seemingly endless line of neo-noir thrillers with a neo-western gloss, “The Last Victim” plays like the work of people who watched “Blood Simple” and “No Country for Old Men” several times, slapped themselves on the forehead and said, “Hey! We can do that!” Not so, based on the evidence presented here. Instead,...

When George A. Romero created Night of the Living Dead, the movie originally carried the title Night of the Flesh Eaters. The title was changed at the last moment and the copyright was lost, immediately putting the film into public domain.
That means that anyone can remake or re-imagine the movie and one of the newer projects is Night of the Living Dead: Origins 3D. The movie has been in development for a number of years now, but it’s alive and well and we have a new casting update:

Zebediah De Soto’s re-imagining of George A Romero’s 1968 zombie classic uses state-of-the-art facial capture technology to create the effect of a graphic novel-traditional animation hybrid.
Madhavan’s credits include 3 Idiots and the Tanu Weds Manu franchise. The key cast includes Tony Todd, Tom Sizemore, “scream queen” Danielle Harris, Sarah Habel, Bill Mosley and Joseph Pilato.
De Soto co-wrote the screenplay with Warren Davis II and David Reuben Schwartz.

For me, the hallowed ground horror movies are John Carpenter‘s Halloween, Jonathan Demme‘s The Silence Of The Lambs, Tobe Hooper’s The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, William Friedkin‘s The Exorcist, and especially Night Of The Living Dead. George Romero’s atmospheric original created the template for the contemporary zombie, and I always thought it would be very difficult to follow in the lumbering footsteps of George’s army of flesh eaters with a remake. Well, get ready for what is being called a 3D re-imagining of the classic. Simon West Productions, and the Graphic Film Company, in association with 2020 Entertainment and Indus Media and Entertainment, have set Bollywood actor R.
