Recently, I had the esteemed opportunity to chat with writer-director Matt Orlando, who has successfully shepherded his first feature film to the big screen. That would be A Resurrection, which follows a troubled teen, his psychologist, and the tangled web his school becomes embroiled in. The suspense-horror film stars Mischa Barton, J. Michael Trautmann, Devon Sawa, and was Michael Clarke Duncan’s final film. You can find our review for the film here, and can find it on VOD and in limited theatrical release now.
The following interview delves into how a first time director lucked into such a great cast, his feelings on Michael Clarke Duncan, his intentions making the film, its journey to fruition, and his upcoming horror projects (Surfing + horror).
FM: What were your inspirations growing up that made you want to be a filmmaker, and what in particular brought you to horror?
Orlando: I don’t know,...

When Henry James re-edited his complete works for the so-called New York Editions, photography had recently emerged as an artistic technology and a shiny new means of telling stories. Critics such as Charles Baudelaire scorned the camera, claiming it didn't allow for human interpretation of events the way painting did. It didn't allow the audience to use their imagination, either. "It is useless and tedious to represent what exists, because nothing that exists satisfies me," Baudelaire wrote. "I prefer the monsters of my fantasy to what is positively trivial."
But as any photographer will tell you, people view the world from different vantage points. Where some saw a stifling medium of mindless shutter-clicking, James saw an opportunity. He hired a photographer Alvin Langdon Coburn to illustrate the covers of his novels and asked that the artist abide by one rule: That the images suggest more than they specify.

A fleet should be ready by the London Olympics in 2012.
Zero-emission cabs are officially on their way to London. The cabs (which we've written about here before) have been approved for use on the city streets, having driven 8,000 miles on test tracks and on roads, garnering Road Legal status from England's Vehicle Certification Authority. London Mayor Boris Johnson is so pleased that he has advocated accelerated development of the cabs, which were developed by a consortium led by Intelligent Energy.
To celebrate its new legal status, one of the cabs went on a jaunt around London last week, passing by many of London's landmarks (like Big Ben, inset). A release informs that the cab "excelled in rush-hour traffic, with smooth and responsive acceleration provided by the fuel cell and electric motors."
The new black cabs get a 250-mile driving range and can be refueled in five minutes, crucial for any working cabbie.
