Featuring original songs from imaginary bands, Sean Keller's The Killer Sounds of Halloween is adding spooky sounds to the Halloween season. Patrick Bromley recently interviewed Keller about his autumnal mixtape, and we now have a look at a new music video for one of the mixtape's tracks, "The Monsters Trick or Treat," directed by Megan Duffy (who recently helmed the killer bride short film Seeing Green).
Directed and edited by Megan Duffy, and starring Sean Keller, John Stiens, and Mike Mendez, The Monsters Trick or Treat is an imagined sequel to the "Monster Mash" and the music video is their homage to Bobby Pickett. The video stars Keller, horror director Mike Mendez, and voiceover actor John Stiens (who also voices all the creatures on the track). Makeup is by Ally McGillicuddy with costumes by Kristin Parker. One of my favorite parts of the Halloween season is listening to seasonal music, be it classics like “Grimm Grinning Ghosts” from Disney’s Haunted Mansion ride or familiar tracks from horror movies like Alice Cooper’s “He’s Back (The Man Behind the Mask)” from Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives. Hell, I’ll even do deep cuts like Frank Vinci’s “Just What I’ve Been Looking For” from Sleepaway Camp or Gowan’s “Moonlight Desires,” most recently used in WolfCop. I’m lucky enough to have friends that make me Halloween mixes, too, giving me plenty to listen to all month long.
My new favorite Halloween album, though, is a little unconventional and a whole lot of fun. Sean Keller, a musician, actor, and screenwriter (Hulu’s All That We Destroy), has recorded the ultimate Halloween mix this year: The Killer Sounds of Halloween, 13 original songs from 13 fake bands.

Exclusive: Fangoria has set Chelsea Stardust to direct Satanic Panic, an After Hours-esque horror comedy with a dash of gore. The Grady Hendrix-penned script is about a pizza delivery girl at the end of her financial rope who has to fight for her life — and her tips — when her last order of the night turns out to be high society Satanists in need of a virgin sacrifice. Casting is already underway and principal photography is set for October in North Texas.
Cinestate’s Dallas Sonnier (Bone Tomahawk) & Amanda Presmyk (Dragged Across Concrete) will produce for Fangoria with Aperture Entertainment’s Adam Goldworm (Masters Of Horror). Not often do the worlds of horror and musicals cross over. Aside from a few notably strange blends—The Rocky Horror Show and Repo! The Genetic Opera of course, along with the elusive but acclaimed Evil Dead musical extravaganza—and other efforts that missed the mark (did you know there was a Dracula musical? There’s probably a reason you didn’t.), these genres are polar opposites. How does one combine the melodrama and cheese of a musical with the dreadful macabre of horror? By being Slashed! That’s how.
Premiering at midnight on June 9th as part of the Hollywood Fringe Festival, Slashed! The Musical puts the summer camp massacre genre of the 1980s to music. A group of morally questionable teens arrive at Camp Freedom, only to learn from the local Looney Lucy that the area is cursed by the vengeful spirit of a boy who died “because everyone was fu**ing.

Stars: Nicolas Cage, Rachel Nichols, Max Ryan, Michael McGrady, Peter Stormare, Danny Glover | Written by Jim Agnew, Sean Keller | Directed by Paco Cabezas
It doesn’t bode well for a film when it counts Jim Agnew and Sean Keller as its writers. After all the duo were responsible for penning Giallo, the film that made Dario Argento the laughing stock of Frightfest and sounded the death knell on the career of the once-master of the Italian horror genre. Then again it doesn’t bode well when a film starring Nicolas Cage makes its debut as a direct to DVD title either.
So what’s the spiel? Well:
After a life of crime in his younger years Paul Maguire (Cage), now lives a charmed life. Fully reformed from his old ways, he is now a successful businessman, with a nice house, a lovely wife (Nichols) and a wonderful daughter, who he dotes on.

Cage Rage! Nic Cage Is Back In Rage, Coming To Blu-ray & DVD On August 12th From Image Entertainment
I do love Nic Cage, in most of what he has appeared in. My devotion doesn’t rival that of Jesse Bartel, who holds a Phd in Cagerey, but I’ve followed and enjoyed his career. So, I do look forward to seeing a new Nic Cage movie, even if I know it could be potentially bad. After a glance at the trailer, it actually looks pretty good. I’m excited to watch it now. Image Entertainment announced that they would be bringing the film to Blu-ray & DVD on August 12th. Check out the trailer below, and click here to pre-order a copy for yourself.

Cage Against the Machine: Cabezas’ English Debut Labors Through Borrowed Themes
Playing like the cheap echo of David Cronenberg’s A History of Violence, director Paco Cabezas flaunts his English language debut on the haunches of the increasingly erratic reputation of Nicolas Cage. Another brick in the growing pile of fecal matter from the unwavering Cage saga, Cabezas retools basic genre themes (you’ll probably be reminded of Taken at some point in the mix) for a film that plays like it could just as well be the third part of a trilogy including Cage’s turns in strikingly similar B fare like Roger Donaldson’s Seeking Justice or Simon West’s Stolen. To his credit, Cabezas’ Rage is no worse than the offerings of these more accomplished directors, but that doesn’t make the experience of it any more worth your while. Painstakingly generic, one only wishes it would...

Despite all his Rage, he’s still just Nicolas Cage. And so, anyone puts down a few bucks to see this movie probably knows what they’re getting themselves into. Unfortunately for even the so-bad-he’s-brilliant actor’s most undemanding fans, however, this latest bargain-bin offering (previously titled Tokarev, after the make of a gun that winds up being integral to the story) is the worst thing that he’s ever been associated with. Not even the promise of more bizarre line readings and hilariously weird facial expressions to add to Cage’s already impressive collection of Wtf moments is enough to make Rage worth your time.
With a movie as completely devoid of merit as Rage, I’m not even sure where to start. As written by Jim Agnew and Sean Keller, the film is essentially a series of loosely connected action sequences, every one somehow less compelling than the last.

Judging by his resume in recent years, Nicolas Cage has an axe to grind. Has he suffered an injustice in his personal life? Who knows – but two things are for certain: he’s all about payback, and short, one-word titles. We’ve had Stolen, we’ve had Trespass, we’e had Justice (alright, it was known as Seeking Justice in the Us.) Now we have his latest cinematic effort, Rage, (previously titled Tokarev) and it appears to be treading similar ground as evidenced in the newest trailer released today.
The distinctly Taken-esque plot revolves around Paul Maguire (Cage); a reformed criminal whose daughter is kidnapped by Russian mobsters. The wise choice might be to give Interpol a call, but Maguire’s steely pride gets in the way. As it should – as the ‘napping is payback for his earlier crimes. Rallying a troupe of his former crew, against the advice of a local cop,...

This week on the couch we have James Roday and Jimmi Simpson watching The Cat o' Nine Tails. James is best known as Shawn Spencer on Psych, which recently wrapped up its eight-year run. He just finished his feature directorial debut, a horror-comedy called Gravy. Jimmi is best known as "that guy who you've seen in everything." Some of his recent projects include House of Cards, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Knights of Badassdom. The Cat o' Nine Tails was only the second film directed by horror auteur Dario Argento. A rather straightforward crime thriller starring Karl Malden as a blind journalist, Cat o' Nine Tails is considered a giallo film, a sort of stylized Italian mystery film that takes its name from the cheap pulp mystery novels of the first half of the 20th century. "Giallo" is Italian for "yellow," and pulp paperbacks originally used cheap, yellow covers.

This week in The Vault, we welcome back Heidi Honeycutt and Jill Kill to discuss William Lustig's 1996 film Uncle Sam.
Uncle Sam is the story of a veteran named Sam who, three years after dying in the line of duty, is returned home where he inexplicably reanimates, dresses up like the patriotic icon, and goes on a killing spree. This strange little direct-to-video slasher flick came out around the time that VHS was on its way out and DVD was taking over the home video market. While he is still an active producer, Uncle Sam is the last feature Lustig directed.
Be sure to head over to The Vault and enjoy Uncle Sam.

In this week's all new edition of 'The Vault,' we're going back to one of the Italian master of horror's most well regarded pieces of cinematic work. That's right. We're talking about Dario Argento and the movie in question is 'Opera!' For this commentary, we invited filmmaker and occasional Fearnet blogger Drew Daywalt ('Red Clover') along with actor Aj Bowen ('The Sacrament,' 'You're Next,' 'The House Of The Devil') to offer their insight into the wild world of Argento's unique horror!
After directing a slew of classics such as 'Deep Red,' 'Suspiria,' 'Tenebre' and 'Phenomena,' Argento returned with 'Opera,' one of his most ambitious films yet in which a budding opera singer (Cristina Marsillach) is stalked by a deranged fan hellbent on making her famous. In this week's installment of The Vault, we have gathered director Jeremy Kasten (The Wizard of Gore, The Profane Exhibit) and actor/director Ted Raimi (Evil Dead, Army of Darkness, Morbid Minutes) to discuss Two Evil Eyes.
1990's Two Evil Eyes marks the first collaboration between George Romero and Dario Argento since 1978's Dawn of the Dead. Two Evil Eyes is actually an anthology movie that never quite came together, and instead features two hour-long films based on the stories of Edgar Allan Poe. Romero wrote and directed "The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar," which stars Adrienne Barbeau, and Argento wrote and directed "The Black Cat" with Harvey Keitel.

This week, we're stirring things up in 'The Vault!' We've got Dario Argento's controversial 1996 film 'The Stendhal Syndrome' starring his daughter Asia Argento. And our commentators for this one are Fangoria contributor Heidi Martinuzzi and horror host Jill Kill. The gals offer a pretty unique and often hilarious commentary on one of Argento's most misunderstood horror cult classics. In 'The Stendhal Syndrome,' Asia plays Detective Anna Manni, a young policewoman tracking down an elusive serial rapist/killer & who slowly starts going insane herself after becoming a victim of the brutal man's obsession. Yep, and her father directed he in this. Heidi and Jill aren't afraid to tackle the awkwardness of 'The Stendhal Syndrome,' nor do they shy away from breaking out wigs in the films' honor! Ready to crack open another horror title from 'The Vault?' This week, we're unleashing an early cult classic from legendary director George A. Romero. That's right, it's the original 1973 version of 'The Crazies!' And this week's commentators are two of the most well versed horror minds working in the industry today. In The Vault this week, we welcome director Dave Parker (The Hills Run Red, ColdWater) and journalist Rebekah McKendry from Fangoria. These are two of the biggest horror nerds I know (and I know a lot of horror nerds) so they give some great insight on this week's film, Dead & Buried.
Dead & Buried is a kind of low-key zombie flick. I had never even heard of it until we started working on The Vault. The small New England coastal town of Potter's Bluff is a popular vacation spot, but visitors frequently end up, well, murdered. But thanks to some voodoo witchcraft, the dead rise again, as residents who don't eat brains and, frankly, act as if nothing happened - except, of course, when it is time to kill the newbies.
Directed by Gary Sherman (Poltergeist III, Raw Meat), the screenplay comes from Dan O'Bannon, best known for writing the original Alien.

On this week's The Vault, we have a classic from the godfather of Italian horror: Dario Argento's Deep Red. Deep Red (or Profondo Rosso in Italy) is probably best remembered for that creepy doll and the classic score by Goblin. Joining us for Deep Red are special effects artist Greg McDougall (The Purge) and actor/comedian Josh Thompson (The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson). While Josh may not be known as a "horror guy," he is a horror fan - and he does a killer Morgan Freeman impression that you must see to believe. (I swear, we didn't doctor it at all!)
Deep Red follows a pianist who witnesses the brutal murder of a famous psychic. He becomes embroiled in the case, but the deeper he gets, the more the bodies pile up. Deep Red marks the first collaboration of many between Argento and the band Goblin, led by frontman Claudio Simonetti.

It's been awhile since we've gotten a generic thriller starring Nicolas Cage. And when I say awhile, I really mean only a year. But 2014 will see the release of the oddly titled Tokarev, which finds Cage seeking revenge after some Russian mobsters kidnap and kill his daughter, making him pay for something he did to wrong the gangsters in the past. There's gunshots, concerned cops like Danny Glover and a man willing to do anything for revenge along with all the other cliches we've come to expect with films like this. I'm hoping Cage pays back the money he owes the IRS soon, so he can stop doing garbage movies like this for money. Here's the first trailer for Paco Cabezas' Tokarev, brought to our attention by JoBlo: Tokarev is directed by Paco Cabezas (Neon Flesh) and written by Jim Agnew & Sean Keller (Giallo). We're not sure what language "Tokarev" comes from, but we can only guess that translated into English it means, "collecting a pay check." Boasting low budgets and a pretty wheezy storyline, it's a reminder that for every decent movie Nicolas Cage does—like David Gordon Green's upcoming "Joe"—he's got about five more of these bargain bin efforts in the can. Co-starring Danny Glover and Peter Stormare, this effort comes from writers Jim Agnew and Sean Keller (the duo behind Dario Argento’s awful “Giallo”) and director Paco Cabezas (“Neon Flesh”), and tells the story of a former criminal on the hunt for his daughter’s kidnappers while trying not to slip back into his old violent ways. On the plus side, "Tokarev" looks like it could at least bring forth some more classic Cage animated gifs. On the minus side, it otherwise looks pretty unwatchable. The movie will drop sometime in 2014. Until then,...

ABC is developing a drama about what present-day America would be like had the colonies not won the Revolutionary War. The Thirteen is set in a world where Americans are "still fighting the British for freedom," Deadline reports. The show comes from Jim Agnew and Sean Keller, who co-wrote the upcoming Nicolas Cage movie Tokarev, and, for once, a drama in development actually sounds like it has a really interesting premise for a show. Are other British colonies still under British rule, then? What is the state of global colonialism in general? What's the American Colonies' western border? Most important, what will ABC inevitably do to mess this up somehow?...

Exclusive: What if Americans had no Independence Day to celebrate? A drama project in development at ABC answers that question by building an alternative reality where the 13 colonies lost the 1775-83 Revolutionary War. Titled The Thirteen, the contemporary drama takes place in a world in which the colonies lost their bid for independence, and America is still fighting the British for freedom. The provocative project hails from Lionsgate TV and former Lionsgate Films head of production-turned-producer Allison Shearmur, who has a deal at the studio. It is being written by feature scribes Jim Agnew & Sean Keller, who penned the upcoming Nicolas Cage starrer Tokarev. This marks Shearmur’s second TV sale though Lionsgate this week — she also is producing an American Psycho sequel series which is in development at FX. Another drama series, NBC’s Revolution, also explores a world where the U.S. does not exist, broken up by a massive power shutdown.
