The Who‘s Tommy has a number of unique casting choices. For example, a classic rock star plays a priest in the film. That star later played a priest in the music video for a famous band.
The singer behind The Crazy World of Arthur Brown’s ‘Fire’ is in The Who’s ‘Tommy’
Tommy includes a number of celebrities in its cast, including Ann-Margret, Jack Nicholson, Oliver Reed, Elton John, Tina Turner, and Eric Clapton. In addition, Arthur Brown played The Priest in the film. Brown is known as the lead singer of The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, the band behind the hit single “Fire.”
During a 2022 interview with NME, Brown explained why he appeared in Tommy. “Pete Townshend wanted me to play various parts in the film at various times, and eventually I ended up as The Priest, helping to run a Marilyn Monroe-themed cult,” he said.

A young woman struggling with addiction comes into possession of an ancient puzzle box, unaware that its purpose is to summon the Cenobites, a group of sadistic supernatural beings from another dimension.
Ever since first seeing The Ritual back in 2017, it’s been crystal clear to me that filmmaker David Bruckner is one of the best of our time. His horror films are legitimately terrifying and manage to tackle themes such as grief, loss, and trauma in shockingly powerful ways. My favourite film of 2021 was The Night House, directed by Bruckner masterfully. On the surface, it’s essentially a creepy movie about a woman who may or may not be dealing with some paranormal, otherworldly stuff in her complexly designed house, but underneath it all, it’s really a...

Sometimes I will sit down to watch a movie based solely on the fact that on paper it has checked some of my boxes! While that list does seem to be getting longer by the movie I still can’t help having to satisfy my British low-budget itch. Let me tell you though, I get even more excited when I see we are dealing with an Irish crime caper set partially in Malta.
Broken bones, stolen Bearer bonds, pregnant mobsters, super spy’s, dodgy priests (careful) and a pair of comedic gangland clowns… Kind of sounds like the title of Guy Ritchie’s autobiography. However… that… it is not, for you see dear reader today we are talking about Danny Patrick’s movie The Irish Connection.

So, we’re now officially a week into October. Ready for a spooky flick? Well most hardcore “horror hounds’ are game any time of the year, but this month is…special. And what better way to get “in the mood” than revisiting some iconic and shocking characters in a big reboot, though their creator calls this a “re-imagining”. Oh, and we’re not reaching back to the Universal icons of the 30s, 40s, and 50s. They skip a few decades to get into the scream kings (and queens) of the 70s and 80s. It just feels like all of them have gotten a nice new coat of gore. Hey, even Michael Meyers will be back in a week for his final rampage (heard that before). And much like Chucky,...

Pinhead isn’t Pinhead. Any Clive Barker fan will be quick to point out that the iconic character from the beloved adaptation of the novel The Hellbound Heart is credited as Lead Cenobite, and known in the fiction as “the Priest,” a devotee of a dark, arcane religion. But in an era of gimmicky slashers like Freddy, Leatherface, and Jason, the Priest needed a catchier sobriquet, and so he was dubbed Pinhead, much to Barker’s chagrin. But even as it became increasingly standard, the name always seemed like an ill-fitting title for the elegant character portrayed by Doug Bradley.
For those reasons, director David Bruckner had no qualms about casting Jamie Clayton as the Priest for his Hellraiser reboot, which comes to Hulu on October 7. “We always knew that [a female Pinhead] made sense given the history of the franchise and the kinds of fans that have embraced it,” Bruckner told The Hollywood Reporter.

Before David Bruckner made his solo directorial debut in 2017 with Netflix’s The Ritual, the filmmaker was heavily involved in rebooting Friday the 13th, first as a found footage film and then as a more conventional ‘80s reboot. But Bruckner ultimately left the project and took the indie route, beginning with the well-received Ritual and then the critically acclaimed Rebecca Hall vehicle, The Night House (2020). And now, with his Hellraiser reboot on the brink of release, Bruckner is glad that he took a longer route before directing his first franchise film.
“I wouldn’t have been prepared at the time [to direct Friday the 13th],” Bruckner tells The Hollywood Reporter. “If I’m honest, the world of Hellraiser — the themes that it explores and the visual quality of it — is something that is much more of interest to me. I think I have more on offer where that’s concerned.

Amy Lee misses Brooklyn. She lived there for 12 years with her husband (and later their son, born in 2015), before they left their apartment for Nashville a year ago.
“The perfect year,” she says with an eye roll over Zoom. Lee had hoped to be closer to her family in Arkansas and friends in Nashville when she moved, only to find herself stuck at home with the rest of the world. “We haven’t gotten [to see people] as much as we would have liked to because of Covid, but now we are here,...

With the field shrinking and the amount of filler growing, the Top 6 of American Idol: The Farewell Season hit the stage to sing songs that for some reason were chosen for them by viewers. Everyone but La'Porsha Renae and Sonika Vaid were either a hit or a miss, though as you'll see from the rankings, they were on opposite sides of the equation. The girl who peaked with Evanescence's "Bring Me to Life" made a second consecutive appearance in the bottom grouping, but she was once again able to best the competition (this time Tristan McIntosh) to survive for at least another week. Though in this case, we don't need the "at least."...

I may not have grown up under the Common Core Standards, but I know enough math to figure out the following simple equation:
There are six weeks left of American Idol‘s Season 15. There are seven weeks left of Kelly Clarkson’s pregnancy. If Fox and 19 Entertainment spring for a luxury Rv to transport the original Idol winner to and from Hollywood every Thursday between now and the April 7 finale, there is no reason whatsoever she can’t upgrade this rollercoaster of a Farewell Season with her sweetly rambling, stream-of-consciousness, heartfelt and honest critiques. (And the occasional emotionally devastating performance.

After last week's screwy episode, all bets are off on how Wednesday's (May 6) episode of "American Idol" will handle its performances and its elimination. In theory, we've got three performances coming up from each contestant tonight, but will we get three performances from the Top 3 following a mid-show elimination? If that's the case, does that mean that one contestant will have gotten the visit home, but will still be booted without singing thrice? Or will we have 12 performances and four Hometown Visit clip packages, even though one singer was effectively a Dead Idol Walking on that visit, having already been eliminated by the voting, even if they didn't know it? I have no clue. Click through and follow along as I inevitably become increasingly frustrated and eventually angry... 7:59 p.m. In case you didn't hear, "Idol" is going two nights next week for the finale. This week saw singers, ventriloquists and an array of animals on the stage. But with Simon Cowell, Alesha Dixon, David Walliams and Amanda Holden to impress, who showcased enough talent to get through to the next round?
First up was diving team Le Quebrada High Divers. After taking the judges and audience outside, they impressed everyone with a range of dives from a whopping 25-metre height. The grand finale of their act was to set a diver on fire before a dive. Despite Cowell saying the act "needed to be bigger", all four judges gave them a yes.
Next up was illusionist Stevie Pink, who lived up to his name by having all his props in the same shade. Although both Holden and Dixon buzzed him early, both apologised after they witnessed his act. After mystifying all the judges with how he achieved his levitating act, he was given four yeses.

Former Evanescence guitarist Ben Moody has 500,000 reasons to be in a piss poor mood ... 'cause his managers are suing him ... claiming he owes half-a-million bucks in unpaid commissions. Fyi -- Ben's also a Huuuuuge songwriter ... penning hits for music giants like Celine Dion, Avril Lavigne, Daughtry ... and he even wrote the Kelly Clarkson mega-hit "Because of You."Also ... he produced a couple of songs for Lindsay Lohan (but hey, everyone makes mistakes). Anyway, Ben's being sued by Rider Management Inc.

Star Wars custom anything is usually worth a look. This is a custom Han Solo in Carbonite guitar created by Travis Stevens. The custom 6 string was crafted for Evanescence's Ben Moody (pictured below). As much as I love me some Star Wars, I don't think I would really want something like this. I own more than half a dozen guitars, and my favorites to play are the ones that just feel the most comfortable. And this frozen piece of human body looks like a pain to hold, especially with all the tone controls at the top. Then again, if I had money to blow, I would in all honesty, probably own some crazy guitars and just hang 'em up! 'See, still got the old tagger on it... never even played it.'
Feel free to shred, but keep in mind that if you throw down some face melting licks, you may also melt the carbonite.

One of the perks available to members of the Austin Film Society is the quarterly Member Mixer, which is a great way to meet other film enthusiasts and filmmakers. At a mixer I attended in 2008, I met local filmmakers Ben and Rachel Moody of Blue Goggles Films.
At that time, they were working on an original web miniseries called Prologue, compelling short films that chronicled the moments before a zombie outbreak. The miniseries was designed to lead into a full web series of Epilogue.tv to follow survivors of the zombie apocalypse in their struggle to survive. Ben Moody developed the concept long before AMC's series The Walking Dead was filmed, and Epilogue.tv included a social networking component with a fun game of pitting zombies against survivors and interactive community forums. Unfortunately, further development of Epilogue.tv was abandoned, but you can still join and engage on the website and view Prologue online.

Britain's Got Talent winner Jai McDowall has announced details of his debut album. The singer will release his first studio effort Believe in the UK on December 12, coinciding with his performance at this year's Royal Variety Performance. McDowall will release his cover of U2's 'With Or Without You' as the lead single for the campaign, which heads up the LP's tracklist. Speaking about his song choices for the album, the talent show champ explained: "I was brought up with a lot of country music like Kenny Rogers, but I've got quite eclectic tastes and have everything from Iron Maiden to Britney Spears on my iPod. "I like a lot of R&B but I also love choral music. It kind of depends on my mood but I'm very open-minded about music." The debut disc includes covers of tracks by Coldplay, Evanescence, Green Day (more)...

A few months ago, I was sitting in a bar in Nashville watching Amy Lee play Ping-Pong. This was amazing for several reasons, the least of which was the fact that she was actually pretty good.
Because while the image of Lee — frequently corseted dark princess of hard rock — clutching a tiny racquet certainly threw me for a loop, it was the action around her that really struck me. Her bandmates were sitting at a nearby table, cracking jokes with the road crew, cheering whenever she cracked a return volley over the net or caught the corner of the table with an arcing lob shot. Lee was laughing and taunting her opponent, who just so happened to be her husband,...

There are some bands that never seem to lose their popularity. Whether this is due to them appealing to an enduring audience, or that they possess an aura and a sound that attracts certain ages and tastes, or even if it’s because of the simple fact that they churn out quality material again and again, their popularity means that they’ve managed to do what many bands try and fail at. And that is: they’ve made a success out of themselves and have the ability to create music that remains popular through the years.
Evanescence is one of these bands. Their first album, ‘Fallen’, released in 2003, was hugely popular and propelled the band to fame almost immediately. It sold more than 15 million copies worldwide, is one of 8 albums in the history of the Billboard chart to spend at least a year in its top 50 (it spent 104 weeks) and was certified Platinum status 7 times.

Jai McDowall Britain's Got Talent
This evening millions of viewers tuned in to watch Britain’s Got Talent’s penultimate semi final show of the 2011 series and at times, we bet they were sorry they did.
There were some very disappointing acts, Jessica Hobson, Mexican Mayhem and Nathan Wyburn to name a few. However, things picked up with the performances of Out Of The Blue, Jai McDowall and the hilariously funny Steven Hall.
At the end of the night, only two of the eight acts could pass through to Saturday’s grand finale to join Les Gibson, James Hobley, Ronan Parke, Jean Martyn, New Bounce and Paul Gbegbaje on the live extravaganza.
Ant and Dec revealed that Jai McDowall had won the show and received the most public votes, after wowing the public with his jaw dropping performance of Evanescence’s ‘Bring Me To Life.’

In the early part of the 21st century, the rock scene was dominated by a new era of indie rock, one that had rebelled against the nü-metal of the turn of the century and developed a whole new aesthetic that covered both the sonic and visual worlds. Bands like the Strokes, the White Stripes, the Hives and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs were doing new things with rock constructions that were simultaneously looking forward and looking back. It was a thrilling time to be a rock fan. But in 2003, the band that made the biggest impact had nothing to do with that trend. Evanescence seemingly came from nowhere, released their debut album Fallen on this day in 2003 and proceeded to lay waste to most of the rock universe for the rest of the year.

Gothic rockers We Are the Fallen – founded by former members of Evanescence and fronted by American Idol Season 7 finalist Carly Smithson – will be going way beyond the usual live gig when they take the stage January 22nd at Hollywood's Avalon Theater. Founder Ben Moody recently posted a video on the band's official site announcing the debut of "Cirque Des Damnes" (Circus of the Damned), a sinister showcase that's part rock concert, part freakshow, and apparently not for the kiddies. At the moment this looks like a one-time deal, so you might want to check this one out pronto... flip it over for details! "It's a carnival-style event thrown into the unpredictability of a rock 'n'...

Former Evanescence member Ben Moody has revealed his reasons behind leaving the band in 2003. The guitarist and founding member admitted that his relationship with singer Amy Lee became unbearable and that he originally tried to make her quit. According to WENN, he released a statement saying: "I am not going to paint the sugar-coated pleasant version of events. I'm going to tell you exactly what happened in October of 2003. "We were very young people in a very stressful situation. We had such opposing desires and personalities that, mixed with the pride of youth and inexperience, led to an all-out war. "On the night of October 22, 2003 everything came to a head. And through my fit of rage and desperation I put the nail in the coffin of Evanescence. It was highly probable (more)...

Former Evanescence star Ben Moody has opened up about his reasons for leaving the band in 2003 - revealing his relationship with singer Amy Lee became "an all-out war" and he tried to force her to quit instead. The guitarist, a founding member of the goth rock group, walked away from the band during its European tour following a bitter bust-up with his former "best friend" Lee.
And Moody admits he had to leave because life in the band had become unbearable for all those involved. In a statement, he says, "I am not going to paint the sugar-coated pleasant version of events. I'm going to tell you exactly what happened in October of 2003... We were very young people in a very stressful situation... Just four months into her relationship with "The Hills" star Brody Jenner, Avril Lavigne has taken the plunge. No, the divorced 25-year-old singer isn't getting married again, but according to gossip site X17, she and Jenner recently got each other's names tattooed on their torso.
Paparazzi photos of Lavigne and Jenner on a recent trip to the beach show the word "Brody" imprinted just below Lavigne's right breast and what appears to be her first name on the inside of his arm. Justin Bieber's My World 2.0

You might slow him down, but you just can't stop Justin Bieber. The pint-size pop dynamo will be back on top of the Billboard albums charts next week when his second effort, My World 2.0, makes the leap from #5 back up to the pole position on modest sales of 60,000, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan.
Though the total is one of the lowest for a #1 album this year, it is still enough to push 2.0 over the 1 million mark. Hanging tight just behind Bieber is Lady Antebellum's Need You Now, which is down 44 percent to 54,000, just enough to stave off a strong bid from moody indie darlings the National, whose High Violet notches a career-high #3 debut (51,000). Also debuting in the top 10 is the second effort from White Stripes/Raconteurs leader Jack White's other side project,...

A fresh material titled "Bury Me Alive" from newly-formed band The Fallen has been put forward as it was previously promised. The song has been showcased live for the first time by the band during a press conference in Hollywood earlier this week.
The Fallen consist of five personnel, Carly Smithson in vocal, Ben Moody in lead guitar, Rocky Gray in drums, John Lecompt in rhythm guitar and Marty O'Brien in bass. This band plan to embark on a tour this September, and promise to release new songs online in between their touring schedule.
Carly is a 2007 "American Idol" alum who finished in the sixth place in the competition. Ben, Rocky and John, meanwhile, are Amy Lee's former bandmates in Evanescence. As for Marty, he is a musician whose recording and touring credits include Disturbed and Kelly Clarkson.

Chris Daughtry turned down Fuel. Adam Lambert turned down Queen (for now). But Carly Smithson said yes to Evanescence — or to most of them, at least.

The lineup includes Ben Moody, Rocky Gray, John Lecompt — all of whom were in Evanescence — and Marty O'Brian, who was not in the group.

"American Idol" season seven outcast, Carly Smithson, has been recruited as the lead singer of The Fallen, a new band formed by Evanescence's former members. "I'm excited to be able to completely jump out of the box," she said. "The Idol thing, you know, was very PG, it was for a family audience ... I've never been more happy than being in this band."
Recalling the first time they were in search of a vocalist after Amy Lee's exit, guitarist Ben Moody told Los Angeles Times, "We began looking for our soul mate, which we were scared was going to take a long, long time." Then, he was impressed by Carly's singing talent after watching her "Bring Me to Life" performance on 2008 American Idol Summer Tour.

I had mixed feelings when I read in the Los Angeles Times this morning that two-time music industry washout Carly Smithson (you remember her — she was the tattooed Irish lass from the seventh season of “American Idol” whose husband looked like The Enigma) has formed a band with three former members of mope rockers Evanescence. They call themselves Fallen. Some think Smithson’s ejection from “Idol” came too early, but clearly Rocky Gray, John Lecompt and Evanescence co-founder Ben Moody think the timing was just perfect.
Visual resemblance to Evanescence singer Amy Lee aside, Smithson is up for the gig if only because she sang the band’s smash “Bring Me To Life” on last year’s “Idol” tour (she also has the same vampire tan as Lee). And lord knows guitarist/songwriter Moody has finesse with crafting poppy tunes, thanks to his post-Evanescence work with Avril Lavigne, Celine Dion,...

"American Idol" finalist Carly Smithson has joined forces with several former Evanescence members to form a new rock group, The Fallen, according to the L.A. Time blog Idol Tracker. The band will make a formal debut during a concert performance at a private party on Monday in L.A., plus post a free song download to the band's website at wearethefallen.com. The move comes as bit of a surprise from Smithson, given many Idols' predispositions to pursue solo careers instead of forming full bands. But the pieces fell into place, as Evanescence co-songwriter and guitarist Ben Moody, drummer Rocky Gray and guitarist...

Ex-Idol contestant Carly Smithson is joining the Evanescence family. They won't be going under the Evanescence name, however. They'll relaunch as a new hard rock band called The Fallen.
The band will hold a formal announcement on Monday, reports USA Today. They'll also hold their first live performance. The line-up features Carly Smithson on vocals, as well as former Evanescence guitarists Ben Moody and John LeCompt, and drummer Rocky Gray. Bassist Marty O'Brien, who has played with Disturbed and Kelly Clarkson, will also join the band.
During her stint on Idol, Smithson song Evanescence's hit song "Bring Me to Life," from their album "Fallen." Moody left the band shortly after the release of that album, and LeCompt and Gray followed in 2007. Amy Lee still performs under the Evanescence name.

Before new judge Kara DioGuardi debuted on "American Idol," last night, she was introduced as a Grammy Award=nominated songwriter. Though technically true, she is in fact a Latin Grammy nominee for co-writing a 2007 song of the year contender - "Bella Traicion." She shared the nomination with the track's singer, Belinda, as well as Mitch Allan, Ben Moody and Nacho Peregrin. They lost the race to Juan Luis Guerra's "La Llave de Mi Corazon," which also won record of the year. "Bella Traicion" wasn't nominated for that top honor. But Kara DioGuardi has won other kudos. In 2003, she took home a Bmi Cable Award for co-writing and performing 'Somethin' to Say,' the theme to...
