Escapade Media has come on board to take international sales rights to ‘Follow the Rain,’ a feature-length documentary about unknown species of mushroom that has enjoyed theatrical release in its native Australia.
The film is directed and produced by Catherine Marciniak and follows Marciniak and Stephen Axford, her partner in production company Planet Fungi, as they explore forests and wetlands charting some of the millions of undocumented forms of mushroom, fungus and mycelium. The pair take a physical journey, following the rain in one of Australia’s wettest years to discover what fungal stories emerge and come out with a “fungi feast.”
The completed film, with a score by composers Romano Crivici and Carla Thackrah, combines imagery from mushroom time-lapses, adventures in majestic forests where fungi is everywhere, dramatic weather in remote landscapes and the visual appeal of a road trip.
“This fungi adventure takes us into some of the oldest landscapes in Australia,...

Action star, Jai Courtney is to narrate “For the Love of Pets,” a factual animal welfare series set in Australia.
Commissioned for the 9Network Australia and filmed in 4K, the 8-part series follows the heart-warming stories of the staff, volunteers and animals that come through the doors of the Animal Welfare League of South Australia Inc. (Awl) and Vets4Pets Emergency Hospital in Adelaide.
Production is by Context Media with production funding from Omnicom Media Group subsidiary, OMnet Australia. Escapade Media is on board to handle international distribution and says that it is close to announcing a raft of licensing deals.
“This is a brilliant paring. Jai Courtney relates to the mass demographic but with a solid appeal to the younger demographic which is essential for channels and platforms today,” said Natalie Lawley, MD of Escapade.
Courtney was most recently seen in Prime Video’s action thriller series “The Terminal List” alongside Chris Pratt.

The staff, volunteers, and animals at the Animal Welfare League of South Australia are the subjects of a new docuseries commissioned by Nine.
To be shot in 4K, For The Love Of Pets will follow those who devote their lives to the animals in their care, from vets performing life-changing surgeries to the re-homing team working to care for and re-home more than 4,000 pets per year, and the compassionate team, who manage the pet memorial and cremation services.
The eight-part series, filming now, is executive produced by Context Media’s Peter Jenetsky and Tim Clucas, alongside series producer Kym Slaby.
Omnicom Media Group subsidiary, OMnet Australia, has provided production financing.
The Awl is on board as a key production partner, with the series being filmed on location at its Animal Care Centre.
Awl CEO Julie Bellamy said the series would shine a light on the work of the not-for-profit organisation in the community.

When Martin Sharpe.s animated short Still Life was a finalist at Tropfest last year, it.s doubtful he realised his little project could be expanded into a 3D series for Australian and international audiences.
Hamish Lewis, a co-founder of international distribution and TV and film financing start-up Escapade Media, spotted Still Life and immediately begun discussing projects with Sharpe. Sharpe created the concept for Artie! - a 26 x 11 minutes, 3D animated TV series targeted primarily at 8-10 year-olds with a slight male skew and Hamish saw the market potential right away. Artie tells the story of the title character Artie, an adventurous spirit who discovers he has the ability to enter other worlds.
Managing director Natalie Lawley plans to pitch the project at Mipcom Junior in October. She is talking to three animation production companies, two Australian-based, the other in Singapore, and hopes to have decided on the production entity before the market.
