Madison Square Garden has seen it all: legendary concerts, NBA Finals games, prize fights, Verzuz duels, and everything in between. Last night, I was lucky enough for a rare Msg first: Megan Thee Stallion’s New York stop on her Hot Girl Summer Tour made the first independent woman rapper to headline at the world’s greatest arena. Even with GloRilla signed to Cmg, indie-rap havens Houston and Memphis should be represented in this moment.

Megan Thee Stallion brought the heat to New York City on Monday as her Hot Girl Summer arena tour arrived at Madison Square Garden. The Houston native knows what it’s like to feel the love from a hometown crowd, and while she was miles away from hers, her Bronx-hailing, close collaborator Cardi B was only a phone call away.

The Drake-Kendrick Lamar showdown will continue — at the 2024 BET Awards.
The rappers will compete in two categories at the June 30 show: best male hip-hop artist and best collaboration. In the latter category, Drake is nominated for “Rich Baby Daddy” with Sza and Sexyy Red, while Lamar is nominated for his guest verse on the remix of Beyoncé’s “America Has a Problem.”
Drake is the show’s top contender with seven nominations, thanks to his album For All the Dogs (Scary Hours Edition). Lamar didn’t release an album that was eligible this year. The Canadian rapper’s other nominations include album of the year, best male R&b/pop artist and viewer’s choice for “Rich Baby Daddy.” He’s nominated twice in the video of the year category: “Rich Baby Daddy” and his guest verse on J. Cole’s “First Person Shooter,” the late 2023 track that reignited his feud with Lamar.

Cardi B is makeup-free and draped in an orange, impossibly plush, queen-size blanket as she shuffles into Glenwood Place Studios in Burbank, California, around nine o’clock one evening in mid-March. Whatever hairstyle she currently has (knowing Cardi, it could be anything from a wig worth thousands to her fluffy, waist-length natural hair) is tucked under a giant bonnet, its magenta-and-teal geometric print immediately familiar from videos she’s posted on TikTok.

GloRilla started slipping into a rut after going a while without dropping new music — fans were clamoring for some more heat, and the Memphis rapper was overthinking how she could outdo herself as her biggest competitor. It knocked her confidence, but only for a moment. On the latest episode of Rolling Stone‘s The Breakdown, GloRilla dives into how she created a hit out of the ultimate reminder that she’s that girl with “Yeah, Glo!”
“I wasn’t the most confident at the time, and I was just overthinking a lot.

Parents just don’t understand, and they haven’t been alone in trying to make sense of Will Smith’s angry assault on Chris Rock a year and a half ago at the Oscars. Perhaps to remind the world that he was once wholesome and didn’t have to cuss in his raps to sell records, he’s reuniting with his old compatriot DJ Jazzy Jeff for a surely noncontroversial performance at A Grammy Salute to 50 Years of Hip-Hop.

There's nothing like a sad, slow song to aid in a post-breakup cry or be the soundtrack to a bad day. It's a well-known fact that music is made to bring out emotions in all of us, but what may come as a surprise is that sad music can have the opposite effect from what you would expect: it can actually make you feel happy.

Ok, let's be honest - did we really expect the MTV VMAs, of all award shows, to deliver the best hip-hop 50 tribute of the year? The "all-star finale performance" MTV touted ahead of the Sept. 12 event included Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, LL Cool J, Dmc (of Run-d.M.C.), Doug E. Fresh, and Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five as performers. The 10-minute tribute intended to honor the culture's entire 50-year history, but with a lineup that shallow (and New York-skewed), is that even possible?
The VMAs aren't alone: it seems every award show's hip-hop 50 tribute has missed the mark this year. The Grammys kicked off the milestone celebration in February with an old school-meets-new-school performance, which featured everyone from Missy Elliott, Busta Rhymes, and De La Soul to Lil Baby, GloRilla, and Lil Uzi Vert. The BET Awards followed suit in June with a "non-stop party" of medley performances from folks like Warren G,...

Peso Pluma Makes History as First Música Mexicana Star to Ever Perform at 2023 VMAs With ‘Lady Gaga’
¡Bienvenido a los VMAs, Peso Pluma! The musician made history by becoming the first música Mexicana star to perform on the VMA stage as he took the stage to deliver an electrifying performance of “Lady Gaga” Tuesday night.
The performance opened with an orchestra of violins before the sound of the bajo quinto kicked in, and Peso Pluma — rocking a black puffer vest and baggy pants — started singing the lyrics to the Génesis standout, which references the VMA favorite.
“Y arriba México, viejo!” the star yelled to close his performance.

Following the release of their new single, Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion reunited for a debut performance of "Bongos" at the 2023 MTV VMAs on Sept. 12, and their backshots definitely sounded like bongos! The two rap stars hit the stage in matching sparkly blue and green costumes, lighting up the stage with their epic performance packed with sexy dance moves.
Despite the demanding choreography, Cardi and Megan didn't miss a single beat as they delivered their verses throughout their moment. It's no surprise that the consummate professionals delivered an unforgettable performance, which is why it caught some viewers off guard when Cardi's husband, Offset - who accompanied his wife on the red carpet earlier in the night - was caught on camera fanboying in the audience (like the supportive spouse he is)!
"Bongos" marks Cardi and Megan's second collaboration after their record-breaking 2020 hit "Wap." The song not only debuted at No.

Megan Thee Stallion and Cardi B reunited at the 2023 MTV VMAs on Tuesday night to perform their latest collab single (and our latest Song of the Week) “Bongos.”
With matching hair and outfits, Meg and Cardi delivered yet another reminder of what “real hot girl shit” entails: shaking ass and getting money. In keeping with the track’s title, the performance offered a bit of a tropical vibe, with bongos banging and palm trees surrounding the rappers. By the song’s end, Taylor Swift, always gifting us with relatable audience reactions, was seen fanning herself.
Although the new single is too fresh to earn any nominations itself, Megan was up for three awards thanks to her 2022 Traumazine single “Her,” while Cardi shared a nomination with GloRilla for their joint single “Tomorrow 2.”
The powerhouse rap duo first linked up for 2020’s “Wap,” which became the first female rap collaboration to debut at No.
