What’s the saying? Oh yeah… third times the charm and the Resident Evil series is no exception. For our third outing we’re here to explore the aftermath of the apocalypse with Resident Evil: Extinction (watch it Here). This one is pretty divisive with the consensus being some people, like myself, loved this film while others felt this was the beginning of the downward slope of sequels of the franchise. Hear me out as to why I sing its praises. For one, it tells a cohesive story and gives us a side of Alice that we’ve been dying to see. We get more new characters that bring gravitas to the story as well as a fully fleshed out villain and it’s a lot of fun. Plus, its pays homage to The Road Warrior in the best way. So, let’s hit up the Sand Dunes of Vegas,...

Umbrella Corporation. The name will forever be associated with unsavory, downright evil acts within the "Resident Evil" universe, catalyzing the events that define the franchise. Although Capcom's "Resident Evil" games have their own set of canonical events concerning Umbrella Corp., the film adaptations that branched into their own universe also paint this multinational conglomerate in a rather infamous light. In every iteration, Umbrella is never up to any good: be it the manufacture and mass production of biological weaponry, or ushering a new race of virus-enhance monstrosities. At the end of the day, the "Resident Evil" films also fit the survival-horror mold, with a woman named Alice (Milla Jovovich) at the center of the horrors crafted by none other than Umbrella.

Bullock’s Badly Behaved Baboon.
After kicking off our month-long theme on toxic masculinity with difficult watches like Funny Games (listen) and Deadgirl (listen), we’re slowing things down a bit this week with Barbet Schroeder‘s 2002 Leopold and Loeb adaptation (of sorts) Murder By Numbers.
In Murder By Numbers, two gifted high school students named Richard and Justin execute a “perfect” murder – then become engaged in an intellectual contest with seasoned homicide detective Cassie Mayweather (Sandra Bullock). The only problem for them is that Cassie has a dark past that she’s been hiding, and it will help her solve the case.

It may seem hard to believe, but at one stage Resident Evil was not only the highest-grossing film series based on a video game, but also the highest-grossing horror film series period. Consisting of six movies and a reboot, the Resident Evil movies just kept making money even while they were being bashed by critics. Most of those critics arguably had valid points, but the arrival of a new Resident Evil movie simply became oddly comforting somewhere along the way.
Thanks to the creative voices of Event Horizon director Paul W.S. Anderson and his Fifth Element actress wife Milla Jovovich, six of the seven Resident Evil movies feature the character of Alice (Jovovich firing on all cylinders), a former security specialist and covert operative who initially has amnesia but eventually remembers she’s out to take down the insidious Umbrella Corporation, a global company responsible for Earth’s weirdest zombie apocalypse.

The latest entry in the animated franchise, Resident Evil: Death Island comes two years after the last entry, Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, and is set in 2015, just after the events of Resident Evil: Vendetta but before Resident Evil 7. Got that?
Somewhere in San Fransisco Dso Agent Leon S. Kennedy is trying to recover kidnapped scientist Dr. Antonio Taylor (Frank Todaro) when a mysterious woman appears and, after a high-speed chase, causes him to crash. Claire Redfield is also in town, trying to find out what kind of creature can use Orcas as a food source. And whether or not the creature is a bioweapon.
Jill Valentine, Chris Redfield and Rebecca Chambers are also looking for answers.

Resident Evil is a video-game franchise with no foreseeable end in sight. And as Capcom’s zombie shooter approaches the big 3-0, it unleashes another entry in the often overlooked animated series of films. Taking place between games 6 and 7, and following 2017’s Vendetta, the story of Resident Evil: Death Island is subject to the same formula as its predecessors. A big threat brews somewhere, and the characters rush in to stop it. However, the new animated film does manage to set itself apart by featuring an all-star cast and complementing the over-the-top action sequences with organic emotional moments.
While the previous animated films — Degeneration, Damnation, and Vendetta — tend to star only a few major characters from the game franchise, Death Island includes four heavy-hitters. Leon S. Kennedy, Jill Valentine, Chris Redfield, and Claire Redfield are all active during this mission.

It’s the final week of July and two more new horror movies are headed onto the big screen this weekend. They’ll have to compete with the #Barbenheimer phenomenon, but both new horror releases look to bring very different counter programming to the box office. One is the next rated “R” fright fest from A24, while the other is a horror-comedy built for families.
Here’s all the new horror releasing July 25– July 30, 2023!
For daily reminders about new horror releases, be sure to follow @HorrorCalendar.
First up, a tragedy leads two dysfunctional families to intertwine in disturbing ways in Screambox Exclusive Repulse, now streaming on the Bloody Disgusting-powered platform.
The bleak, brutal Czech film harkens back to boundary-pushing horror like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Hills Have Eyes.
In the film, Kateřina and Robert raise their young daughter in a luxurious modern villa, but their family life can hardly be called harmonious.

As the highest-grossing and most popular horror franchise across all forms of media, Resident Evil manages to stay in business around the year, bringing out animated projects, live-action series, or game announcements, never letting fans starve for brand-new grotesque content. Through two and a half decades, the franchise has revolutionized the zombie-horror genre to the point where the name itself has become synonymous with the concept. The recently released Resident Evil: Dead Island is the fifth entry to the CG animated Resident Evil movie universe, which also acts as filler content for the main game series, and for the first time, we get to see all the mainstay characters banding together to take down another T-virus-induced global catastrophe.
By now, the lore of Resident Evil has established a pretty straightforward narrative structure with all its tropes and distinctive characteristics. Edward Ashford, Oswell Spencer, and James Marcus founded the pharmaceutical company...

A new live-action film based on the Resident Evil video game franchise is in the works (we’ve heard that it’s called Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles and based on the game Resident Evil Zero), but while we wait to see how that’s going to turn out, we’re also going to have a new computer animated Resident Evil movie to watch. This one is called Resident Evil: Death Island, and it’s set to receive a Blu-ray, 4K steelbook, DVD, and digital release on July 25th! You can watch the trailer in the embed above.
Resident Evil: Death Island is the fourth animated Resident Evil feature, following Resident Evil: Degeneration, Resident Evil: Damnation, and Resident Evil: Vendetta. There was also an animated mini-series called Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness.

If you’ve been wondering just when Capcom’s upcoming Resident Evil: Death Island film would be released, wonder no more. Sadly, other than Japan, it won’t be seeing a theatrical release.
After initially being revealed for this Summer, and then subsequently announced for release theatrically in Japan on July 7, Sony Pictures has now announced that Death Island will be getting a release digitally and on Steelbook 4K Uhd and Blu-Ray on July 25. Pre-orders are now open.
Extras included with the Blu-Ray and 4K:
Genesis of Death Island Jill Valentine: The Return Motion Capture Set Tour Designing Death Island Voicing Death Island The Birth of Death Island Design Gallery
Directed by Eiichiro Hasumi (“Assassination Classroom”) from a screenplay by Makoto Fukami (“Psycho-Pass”), Resident Evil: Death Island is a sequel to 2017’s Resident Evil: Vendetta, featuring the voice talents of Matthew Mercer, Stephanie Panisello, Kevin Dorman, Nicole Tompkins, and Erin Cahill.

Last summer, a TV series based on the Resident Evil video game franchise made its debut on the Netflix streaming service – and was quickly cancelled. That show was an entirely separate project from Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, the feature film that was released at the end of 2021… and it looks like Welcome to Raccoon City was the more successful of the two projects, because it might actually be getting a follow-up! That movie came to us from Raccoon Hg Film Productions and was filmed in Greater Sudbury, a city in Ontario, Canada. Sudbury.com reports that a mysterious movie called Umbrella Chronicles, which is backed by Raccoon Hg Film Productions, is receiving $2 million in funding from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation to film in the Greater Sudbury area. Since this movie is coming from the same production company as Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, is going...

Despite the mixed reactions and a lackluster box office reaction to last year’s Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, Sony is apparently forging ahead with another film. Sudbury.com has let slip that the city has received funding for a new film project called “The Umbrella Chronicles”.
The city, which was one of the filming locations for Welcome to Raccoon City, will be receiving $2 million Cad from the provincial government for the project, which is being developed by Raccoon Hg Film Productions. That same production company was behind the 2021 movie.
Sony has not officially announced a sequel to the Johannes Roberts-directed film, but given that the credits hinted at a sequel, things are looking like it’s in the works. After all, it would appear that this sequel is taking its name from the 2007 on-rails shooter Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles.

With Capcom riding high with the Resident Evil 4 remake (which recently eclipsed four million in sales in less than a month), they’re obviously hoping that the upcoming Resident Evil: Death Island animated film will share in some of that success. And with the latest images, it’s definitely going to be one for the fans.

Capcom’s Resident Evil 4 remake is coming in hot this Friday. But for Fortnite fans, you can get your hands on Leon Kennedy today alongside Claire Redfield as the latest Resident Evil alumni to join the game.
Joining Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield, the Raccoon City Survivors pack features Leon equipped his trusty combat knife and RE4 attache case as his Back Bling, and Claire in her bootcut jeans and biker jacket costume, with the R.P.D. Keys Back Bling (featuring all of the keys you’re required to find in the Police Department), and a red-and-white umbrella as her pickaxe.
Frustrating for some fans, Leon’s costume does not come with his RE4 jacket (though you can certainly buy it for yourself), and instead features his muscle shirt. Can’t win ’em all, it seems.

The Resident Evil franchise is responsible for some of the most chilling moments in interactive media, forcing players to confront man-eating biohazards since the mid 90s. This massive success is ongoing, with new sequels and remakes releasing pretty much every year, but what I think is amazing is that this series of games with little to no regard for conventional storytelling is somehow the franchise that spawned seven big-screen adaptations, a handful of animated films and a short-lived TV show. Meanwhile, there’s still no sign of that Metal Gear Solid movie!
Don’t get me wrong, the Resident Evil games boast plenty of memorable characters with interesting backstories, but these titles have always been more about the player-driven narrative derived from personally outsmarting Umbrella and escaping horrific situations rather than any cohesive yarn. That’s why it’s no surprise that the first Resident Evil movie actually has very...

Before Netflix's reboot series Resident Evil set the internet on fire, director Johannes Roberts crafted an alternate take on the beloved video game. With "Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City," Roberts ignored Paul W.S. Anderson's popular film series adaptation and took the story back to its roots -- focusing on Shinji Mikami's groundbreaking survival horror tone in "Resident Evil" and "Resident Evil 2." Roberts has described his film as a love letter to the games, as his film chronicles the last days of the fictional Raccoon City. Once a booming company town, the declining town suffers a devastating outbreak of the T-virus -- thanks to the Umbrella Company -- that turns its residents into cannibalistic zombies.
Roberts' protagonists, the S.T.A.R.S. Team, are directly inspired by playable characters from the video games, including Claire Redfield (Kaya Scodelario), her brother Chris (Robbie Amell), Jill Valentine (Hannah John-Kamen...

In 1995, Paul W.S. Anderson broke Hollywood's video game adaptation curse with "Mortal Kombat," which was a shining example of a video-game-based blockbuster that could spawn into a long-standing franchise. Riding high on the fresh success of "Mortal Kombat," Anderson decided to tackle yet another major game franchise that had a history of failed movie adaptations. Capcom's survival horror game series, "Resident Evil," offered ample material for a potentially riveting action-horror adaptation. Anderson, who was a fan of the game franchise, saw this potential and decided to add his own spin to the premise. The result was 2002's "Resident Evil," which birthed a six-installment franchise so far removed from the games that it developed a distinct identity of its own.
Despite the franchise's flaws, Anderson's "Resident Evil" films offer a unique survival horror/kinetic action experience. The films follow the amnesiac Alice (Milla Jovovich), a covert operative who battles the...

Love or hate it, there's no denying the "Resident Evil" film franchise has been remarkably successful. Earning over 1.2 billion at the global box office, "Resident Evil" is one of horror's highest-grossing franchises. Narratively, "Resident Evil" is considerably removed from the video games that inspired it. But both mediums are spectacularly absurd.
The film series follows Milla Jovovich's Alice, a bio-weapon with a unique capacity to kill zombies. Throughout the original film series' six films, and not counting Johannes Roberts' "Welcome to Racoon City" reboot, Alice fights back against the Umbrella Corporation, a multinational conglomerate that dabbles in pharmaceuticals. Unfortunately, they also dabble in undead viruses, mutant bioweapons, and unleashing Hell on the citizens of Racoon City -- dooming the world to succumb to zombies. Notably ridiculous and over-the-top, the series is admittedly a violent indulgence. While it's nothing like its source material, there's no denying Jovovich's enduring appeal as a superpowered zombie killer.

Netflix’s Resident Evil is kicking off a new era for the franchise on the small screen. After years of movie adaptations starring Milla Jovovich and directed by Paul W. S. Anderson, the franchise is shifting gears to tell a story unlike any we’ve ever seen on the big screen or in the games. This new Resident Evil series ditches Chris and Claire Redfield, Leon S. Kennedy, and Jill Valentine to tell a modern-day story about Albert Wesker and his family.
Starring the great Lance Reddick as the classic Resident Evil villain, the series not only gives us a complete reimagining of the character as a family man but also introduces us to his two teen daughters, Jade (Ella Balinska/Tamara Smart) and Billie (Adeline Rudolph/Siena Agudong), who have their own issues to deal with, like having to upend their whole lives to move with their father to...
