As it continues to produce highend films and TV programs that examine the wonders of the natural world, science and history, Terra Mater Factual Studios is also seeking to broaden its audience and educate viewers about the precarious state of life on Earth.
Whether it’s the poaching of endangered African elephants for China’s illicit ivory trade or the planned plunder of Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge by America’s oil industry oligarchs, the planet’s precious wildlife is facing dangers that threaten its continued existence. Terra Mater has achieved great success with its theatrical and television output over the past decade in showcasing such issues, but the Austrian company is aiming to attract and inspire new viewers with less traditional productions, including an unlikely comedy.
To that end, Terra Mater is turning its focus to impact-driven environmental topics while also creating mainstream appeal for its productions, says Michael Frenschkowski,...

With the superhero genre exploding in Hollywood right now, it was only a matter of time before we saw a movie made about a bunch of elderly heroes who come out of retirement to save the world.
The movie is called Supervized, and it stars the likes of Tom Berenger, Beau Bridges, and Louis Gossett Jr. Yes, this is a real movie, and we have a trailer for you to watch below. As you’ll see it’s filled with hefty amount of senior gags involving false teeth, farts, superpowers, and more.
The film actually has a fun concept, and it looks like it will be a silly yet enjoyable flick. Here’s the synopsis for Supervized:
Supervized tells the story of an elderly group of international superheroes retired to Dunmanor nursing home in Ireland. Ray is the once world renowned ‘Maximum Justice’ who as his nom de plume suggests...

MaryAnn’s quick take… A little bit psychedelic, a little bit queasy, a little bit experimental, a lot existential, this is a jarring, visceral portrait of the around-the-world sailor in over his head. I’m “biast” (pro): nothing
I’m “biast” (con): nothing
(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto) women’s participation in this film

So this is the other film about Donald Crowhurst, the amateur sailor whose participation in a then-world-famous 1968–9 round-the-globe solo race didn’t pan out like he’d hoped it would. The UK branch of French distributor StudioCanal snapped up this tiny indie because it had its own Crowhurst film, the much bigger star-powered The Mercy, in the offing, turning the competition into a partner (sort of); Crowhurst has now been released in the UK — the sailor’s home country — mere weeks after The Mercy. Veteran action director Simon West ("Con Air," "The Mechanic") has been set to helm the supernatural period war drama "War Wolf" for Fortitude International and Amber Entertainment.
Set in 1356, after decades of relentless war between the French and English armies, an English solider is awarded the castle of his French assassin enemy. But in the walls and the lands that surround it, someone has reawakened the Loup de Guerre, a nightmarish creature on a killing spree.
West will direct from a script by Andy Briggs and Paul Finch for what is a first in a planned franchise. Ileen Maisel, Lawrence Elman and Jib Polhemus are producing and filming begins in Italy in November.

Fortitude International has added the action title to its Cannes slate and the producers have earmarked a November shoot in Italy.
Ileen Maisel, Lawrence Elman and Jib Polhemus are producing War Wolf. West, Fortitude International and Amber Entertainment hope to build a franchise around the property and Paul Finch, author of the Heck crime novels, is working on a novel of the project.
Andy Briggs and Finch wrote the screenplay to War Wolf, which takes place in 1356 during the Hundred Years War between England and France.
After the Englishman Earl Hugo wins the castle of his enemy, French assassin Mauchet, someone has reawakened a ferocious fabled wolf known as the Loup de Guerre that threatens to go on a killing spree.
Mission: Impossible effects, make-up and costume specialist Dave Elsey and Lou Elsey are on board
West’s (pictured) credits include The Expendables 2, Con Air, and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider.

In its final season, Showtime isn’t dragging this baby out. In the premiere, Deb was “working” Andrew Briggs, trying to find his stolen jewelry (while also having sex and doing coke with him), and the “Psychopath Whisperer” Dr. Vogel comes in to help Miami Metro on a new serial killer case. Instead of letting us sit and stew on that, Dexter kills Andrew Briggs in a struggle when trying to protect Deb (while rightly so, his actions were all kinds of stupid), and Dr. Vogel reveals that she helped formulate Harry’s Code, and knows All about our intrepid killer.
We finally get to see James Remar play Harry Morgan, and not Dexter’s imagined version of his adopted father. We see him in the form of video taped sessions with Dr. Vogel, as he came to her when he suspected Dexter’s psychotic leanings. He had no one else to turn to…...

Dexter Episode 801
“A Beautiful Day”
Written By: Scott Buck
Directed By: Keith Gordon
Original Airdate: 30 June 2013
In This Episode...
Six months have passed since last season. Things have gotten back to normal for Dexter. He is a soccer dad, he enjoys his work, and he still has time for his evening hobbies. Things with Deb, however, are not as peachy; she cannot just kill a person in cold blood and go on with life. Since killing Laguerta, Deb has left the police force and is now working for Elway Private Security. Dexter hasn’t seen his sister in two months and hasn’t talked to her in a month. He is worried about her. Their coworkers haven’t heard from her in a while (except for Quinn) so Dexter starts looking for her. She hasn’t been home in weeks, her voicemail is full, and her boss hasn’t heard from her in two weeks.

Debra Morgan knows that her brother is a deranged serial killer. Heck, she even killed Lieutenant Laguerta to keep the secret in the family. Now as the final season of ‘Dexter’ begins, that murderous decision seems to loom large.
We pick up not where we left off. Dexter’s son is flying a kite, Dexter (Michael C. Hall) is smashing fake heads in with a baseball bat. And all of Dexter’s problems have been solved. Oh wait, no they haven’t.
Dexter & Debra On The Rocks
A helpful voiceover from Dexter himself lets us know it’s been six months since Laguerta was killed.
“I’m a serial killer” is written all over Dexter’s face around the rest of the police department. And it’s clear that Dexter and Debra (Jennifer Carpenter) are not on speaking terms. He pretty much ruined her life and she hates him, or so she says.

Edgar Rice Burroughs's lord of the jungle has been through many incarnations in print and on screen in 100 years. What is the secret of his survival?
Just before the first world war, a penniless pencil-sharpener salesman from Chicago had one of those eureka moments that occasionally illuminate the Anglo-American literary landscape. Steeped in the trashy magazine culture of the age – "the pulps" – 35-year-old Edgar Burroughs decided that if he couldn't beat them, he'd join them.
"If people were paid for writing rot such as I read in some of those magazines," he said later, "then I could write stories just as rotten. As a matter of fact, although I had never written a story, I knew absolutely that I could write stories just as entertaining and probably a lot more so."

Dark Relic
Stars: James Frain, Clemency Burton-Hill, Tom Basden, Alyy Khan, Samuel West | Written by Andy Briggs | Directed by Lorenzo Sena
When a film starts and you see “Syfy” it’s often that moment that you start to sigh. These films are often CGI fests with weak stories, the kind of thing you would watch late at night and rarely like. There are times though that this is not the case, that the film is actually good. When I started watching Dark Relic I had little hope.
The story is quite interesting; this is the first good sign. When the first of the Crusades in the Holy Land ended it was a time for the knights to head home. This is what Sir Gregory intends to do. He and his men discover a holy relic, a fragment of the Holy Cross which was said to have been the one that Jesus was crucified on.

Announced at Afm by the Salt Company, Grabbers and Tormented director Jon Wright is heading to space with Steel Moon, a werewolves in space movie that has be cringing until I read the tagline: "In space the moon is always full." Pure gold. Inside you'll find the art, with the synopsis below. "High above the earth, the first orbital hotel is about to open. this 7-star boutique resort promises the ultimate in luxury and the best views in the universe. but things take a deadly turn when an ancient contagion is brought onboard and the small band of occupants find themselves in a desperate battle for survival as a werewolf stalks the moonlit corridors. 'Steel Moon' is a claustrophobic, stylish, and visceral horror movie in the vein of 'Alien' and 'The Thing'..." Andy Briggs, Eitan Arussi, Teresa de Pelegri & Dominic Harari all took a stab at the screenplay.

Director Simon Fellows (Malice in Wonderland) is set to take on one of the most neglected mysteries of the 20th century with an adaptation of Alan K. Barker’s book Dyatlov Pass about an incident that should rank alongside the disappearance of the crew of the Marie Celeste.
Taking place in 1959 during the Cold War, The Dyatlov Pass Incident saw an experienced nine man expedition of ski-hikers led by Igor Dyatlov attempt to traverse a set of mountains in the Urals of Russia. The group failed to return from their trip, and were subsequently discovered by investigators with their tents seemingly having been torn open from within, barefoot in the snow with significant injuries, and yet no outward sign of struggle.
A further layer of mystery was added by subsequent government documents which suggested high levels of radiation discovered among the bodies of the crew. Soviet investigators would conclude that...

2B Pictures, the banner of Blighty’s Future Film Group, is adapting Alan K. Baker’s novel Dyatlov Pass, based on the mysterious ski incident, for the big screen.
The film will be directed by Simon Fellows (Malice in Wonderland), following the true-life events that occurred on February 1959 in the Russia’s Urals, when nine experienced cross-country skiers mysteriously died.
Andy Briggs (Ghost Town) will adapt the script on Baker’s version of the event. The hiker’s deaths have already attracted much speculations being linked to paranormal activity or a military keeping secret.
The tent had been cut open from inside and counted footprints from eight or nine people in meter-deep snow. Though there was no sign of fight, two skiers had fractured skulls, two had broken ribs, one was missing her tongue and clothing belonging to them contained high levels of radiation. Authorities said the group died as...

Mutant Chronicles director Simon Hunter has been in the headlines a lot lately, and given the fact that he has several horror projects in various stages of production, that's not too big of a surprise. Next up? The teaser one-sheet for his film Safe House.
Lena Headey ("Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles," Laid to Rest) and Michael Ironside (Terminator: Salvation) are set to star in Hunter's latest film, which is set to go before cameras in March. Producer Steve Iles of Spirit Pictures pitches it as Assault on Precinct 13 meets The Thing. Andy Briggs has written the screenplay.
Safe House follows a team of Us Marshals charged with protecting a mob trial witness and her teenage daughter, Alice. Mother and daughter are relocated to an isolated compound high in the California Rockies. The location appears secure -- outfitted specifically for witness protection -- yet, its past is steeped in mystery and violence.

That was the message for budding screenwriters at today’s London Book Fair seminar on writing for Hollywood. Andy Briggs, a British screenwriter who’s worked for Paramount and is currently rebooting the Tarzan and King Kong franchises, said Us agents he’d spoken to during his most recent trip to Los Angeles advised him to avoid drama. These days drama is seen as being the purview of television, which does it so much better than movies, he said. Rob Kraitt, an agent at venerable London literary agency AP Watt, said that it’s become much harder for British agents to sell books as movies [...]...

A story broke in today's Variety about a company looking to make a prequel to King Kong. Written by Joe DeVito and Brad Strickland, Kong: King of Skull Island would tell the untold tale of what the big gorilla's life was like before the S.S. Venture arrived to transport Kong to New York. The book came out at the same time as Peter Jackson's King Kong movie and cashed in on the attention and also attracting the attention of Ray Harryhausen, the famous stop-motion animator who brought to life the fantastic creatures from such films as The 7th Voyage of Sinbad. Spirit Pictures wants to adapt the novel into a film that would use motion-capture technology to create the look of Kong and the other great beasts on Skull Island.

Great news for fans of monster movies - King Kong is heading back to the big screen in a new fantasy adventure story.
Spirit Pictures has picked up the rights to the book Kong: King of Skull Island, which was published by Dark Horse in December 2004, a year before Peter Jackson's King Kong remake was released.
Authorised by the estate of Kong's creator Merian C. Cooper, the lavishly-illustrated book is both a sequel and a prequel to the original story.
Created by acclaimed illustrator Joe DeVito, alongside fantasy writer Brad Strickland, the novel explains that following Kong's fatal plunge from the Empire State Building, both the ape's body and showman Carl Denham (who brought the beast to America) had vanished before any investigation can be launched.
A quarter of a century later, in 1957, Denham's son Vincent stumbles upon the Skull Island map, contacts Jack Driscoll (one of Kong...

Looks like we're gonna have another reason to head to theatres again soon!

The Tron sequel officially has a title. Initially known as Tron (as if That wouldn't cause confusion) as well as Tron 2 and TR2N, it's now Tron: Legacy. And it still seems almost miraculous that it has gotten made, since the original picture came out 27 years ago and Didn't make as much money as Disney expected at the time. Years of solid video (VHS/DVD) sales and cable network play have made it a beloved classic far better appreciated now than ever in its debut release.

If Spirit Pictures has its way, audiences will get to see exactly how Kong became King.
The studio has picked up the rights to "Kong: King of Skull Island", a prequel novel telling the back story behind cinema’s famous giant ape. The book, written by Joe DeVito and Brad Strickland, was published around the same time Peter Jackson was producing his King Kong remake.
Through its own in-house special effects facility, Spirit Pictures intends to use motion-capture technology to create a film similar in look and style to the recent Beowulf and The Polar Express. Variety is reporting this evening that Spirit Pictures is looking to bring to life a brand new King Kong project, which was initially developed by effects legend Ray Harryhausen. Producers at Spirit have picked up the rights to the book "Kong: King of Skull Island," a prequel the traditional gigantic ape tale that we've seen in previous cinematic incarnations. Written by Joe DeVito and Brad Strickland, the book tells the backstory of Skull island and how Kong became the king, introducing other characters including other giant gorillas and dinosaurs. The critically acclaimed book is one that has caught the eye of many high-profile Kong lovers, including Ray Bradbury, who had this to say about it: “Anyone who loved King Kong with Carl Denham and Ann Darrow in 1933 and hated DeLaurentis’ 1976 remake cannot help but love this new Kong book. Bravo!” So aside from picking up this book to read myself, I'm...
