Norwegian director Jens Lien is set to direct “The Nation’s Gambit,” a feature film adaptation of up-and-coming author Johan Høst’s bestselling debut novel “En nasjon i sjakk.”
The action thriller will be produced by the Norwegian production company Stig og Stein Studio. Sf Studios will distribute the film in the Nordics, while Reinvent Studios handles international sales.
Høst’s novel, published by Vigmostad & Bjørke, has recently been nominated for the Norwegian Boksellers Award 2022 and a sequel novel is on the way.

Jeppe Ronde’s next film Acts Of Love has won the best project award in the Nordic Co-Production Market at Haugesund’s New Nordic Films.
Inspired by his own family history, Ronde will tell the story of a young woman living in a religious community whose life is interrupted when her brother visits, forcing them to confront their childhood trauma. Ronde co-writes the script with Christopher Grøndahl.
The industry audience – 300 people both onsite and online – voted on the winner.

Eskil Vogt’s new film The Innocents (De Uskyldige) is one of the projects backed by the Norwegian Film Institute’s latest funding round yesterday.
Vogt writes and directs the story about four children (ages 6 to 12), away from their parents’ attention, whose innocent play turns into something else. The filmmaking team wrote, “Magic and creepy things start happening. The Innocents is a film for adults and a shocking journey in to the secret world of the children.”

The BFI has announced the recipients of its 2016-18 Vision Awards, comprising 22 investments in up-and-coming UK producers.
The awards, generally spread over two years, are designed to enable producers to build and develop their companies, slates and creative relationships.
The BFI had intended to give 20 awards but increased that allocation to 22 in response to the number of strong applications it received. Almost 500 companies applied for the awards, which are backed by a total commitment from the BFI of £2.2m of National Lottery funding.
Fifteen of the awards are to women producers or partnerships, while eight of the companies are based outside of London, located in Belfast, Cardiff, Glasgow, Hull, Leeds, Manchester, Sheffield and York.
