Martin Scorsese has long been interested in crime stories. His second feature film, 1972's "Boxcar Bertha," involves a group of bank thieves and freewheeling fugitives. His most recent feature, "Killers of the Flower Moon," made 51 years later, is about the very real organized murders of multiple Osage millionaires at the instruction of William King Hale in Oklahoma in the 1920s. Those who are only passingly familiar with Scorsese's work tend to describe him as a maker of gangster pictures, which isn't accurate. More than anything, when it comes to his crime stories, Scorsese seems interested in ethics-free outliers. He is interested in the kinds of people who have blithely detached from conventional morality, and whose bloody-minded drive toward law-flouting, cruelty, and murder became so widespread they came to color the character of America.
In short, Scorsese is drawn to tales of sociopaths because, as he tells it, sociopaths shaped the nation.

Post Malone made his CMA Awards performance debut alongside Morgan Wallen and Hardy. The musicians showcased a medley of Nineties country songs by Joe Diffie, including “John Deere Green” and “Pickup Man.” Diffie, a pillar of traditional country music, died in 2020 at 61 from complications related to Covid-19.
The choice to perform Diffie songs is tied to a new mixtape being released by Hardy. Hixtape Vol. 3: Difftape unites the “Truck Bed” singer with Wallen and Malone, and features updated versions of Diffie’s “John Deere Green” and “Pickup Man.”

Morgan Wallen and Eric Church’s friendship is well-documented, so it shouldn’t have been too much of a shock when the elder statesman, who’s been a mentor of sorts to Wallen, joined him for what was billed as a performance with a “surprise guest” at the 2023 CMA Awards.
Together, the pair recreated “Man Made a Bar,” their duet about the need for a place to drink away heartbreak that appears on Wallen’s album One Thing at a Time.

Led Zeppelin IV is no doubt one of the greatest rock albums of all time. But what has been in doubt since Led Zeppelin released the LP exactly 52 years ago today has been the identity of the man on the cover — until now.
As reported by The Guardian, new research has identified the bearded man with a walking stick and a bundle of twigs on his back as a Victorian-era Wiltshire thatcher named Lot Long (also known as Lot Longyear). The discovery was made by Brian Edwards, a visiting research fellow at the University of the West of England.
Edwards stumbled upon the original black & white photo while researching an exhibition he curated with Wiltshire Museum in 2021.
“Led Zeppelin created the soundtrack that has accompanied me since my teenage years, so I really hope the discovery of this Victorian photograph pleases and entertains Robert [Plant], Jimmy [Page] and John Paul [Jones],” Edwards said.

The West wasn’t won, nor was it discovered. The West was taken. The West was conquered. The West was stolen. For generations and centuries, Americans have grappled with reconciling this original sin, be it by way of whitewashed mythology or self-flagellating apologia. And for more than a hundred years, the great stage of this struggle has been at the movies, that all-American medium of art and commerce. Dreams and lies.
Martin Scorsese is of course aware of this. He loves the classic Westerns of Golden Age Hollywood with their fairy dust, and when he broke into the business, nihilistic and overly self-critical “deconstructions” were all the rage. Yet by finally making good on his promise to go west for a cinematic epic, the filmmaker made neither type of film. He didn’t even make a Western. Killers of the Flower Moon is a reckoning, as sprawling as it is...

Martin Scorsese’s engrossing 1920s-set historical thriller Killers of the Flower Moon opens with a lament. Elders of the Oklahoma Osage tribe gather to grieve for the younger kin who have been seduced by the decadence of their white neighbors. In many cases, these “deaths” are spiritual, but plenty will become actual—the dreadful end game of an elaborate ruse to bilk the Natives of wealth attained through the area’s plentiful oil reserves.
Author David Grann chronicled this horrific real-life plot, and the scrutiny of it by the then-nascent Federal Bureau of Investigation, in his 2017 nonfiction book of the same name as the film. Scorsese, who co-wrote the screenplay with Eric Roth, initially followed Grann’s procedural template with the F.B.I. as the primary focus. But during pre-production he and Roth changed tack, inverting the narrative so that the Osage and their slaughterers take center stage, with...

Historically, rules on marriage haven’t worked out well for the British royal family. Take, for instance, King Charles III marrying — and later divorcing — Princess Diana after Queen Camilla was deemed unsuitable. Or Princess Margaret being blocked from marrying divorcé Peter Townsend only to have a failed marriage to Antony Armstrong-Jones. These days, however, the rules have changed. So much so, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie aren’t simply living by the royal family’s marriage “rule.” According to an expert, they’ve “embraced” it.
Who are Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie married to?
The daughters of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, Beatrice and Eugenie, are among the younger generation of royals with somewhat recent royal weddings.
Eugenie, 33, married her longtime boyfriend, Jack Brooksbank, on Oct. 12, 2018, at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, in a televised ceremony. Now parents of two — August, 2, and Ernest, 5 months — Eugenie and Brooksbank split their time between England and Portugal.

“Killers of the Flower Moon” was the big player at this weekend’s BFI London Film Festival this week, dragging us journalists out of bed at 8 Am on a Saturday morning to see the Martin Scorsese epic. But it’s okay because we were treated to one of Scorsese’s best films yet.
The Apple TV+ release, due out on Oct. 18, stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Ernest Burkhart, who fell in love with Lily Gladstone‘s Mollie, a member of the Osage tribe in the 1920s. Meanwhile, Ernest’s uncle, William King Hale (Robert De Niro), schemed to murder his way to owning the oil headrights owned by members of the Osage tribe. The film has earned rave reviews. Here are the Oscar nominations we are predicting for “Killers of the Flower Moon.”

What’s it like working with a star as powerful as Leonardo DiCaprio? “Oh, it was great!” said Lily Gladstone at the Variety Studio, presented by Audible at Sundance. Gladstone is at the Park City festival this year with the world premiere of “Fancy Dance,” but we couldn’t help but ask the actor about working with DiCaprio in Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon.”
“You have those moments with superstars, and I feel like I’ve had so many moments so far in these wonderful films that I get to do,” Gladstone said. “The name is a different thing than the person. When you’re sitting down doing the scene work, it’s just two actors. I’ve been so lucky that everybody is a committed artist to what they do. It was a really refreshing thing to see. Everyone is searching for the truth of what’s going on.
