"My father's last wish is for me to go on a scavenger hunt with a brother I never knew I had!" Road trip time! Focus Features has released an official trailer for an adventure comedy titled Half Brothers, from American filmmaker Luke Greenfield. Follow the clues. Uncover the mystery. Find your family. The story follows a successful Mexican aviation executive who is shocked to discover he has an American half-brother he never knew about. The two very different half-brothers are go on a road journey together masterminded by their ailing father, tracing the path their father took as an immigrant from Mexico to the US. Meant to be a metaphor of the relationship between neighboring countries America and Mexico. Starring Luis Gerardo Méndez and Connor Del Rio as the brothers, along with José Zúñiga, Vincent Spano, Pia Watson, Juan Pablo Espinosa, and Jwaundace Candece. Looks like wholesome, cheesy road trippin' goofiness.

SAG-AFTRA leaders are being pressed to respond to stunt performers allegations of racism, nepotism, intimidation and slander.
The issue arose due to an open letter sent Wednesday on behalf of stunt performers who are Bipoc, women, LGBTQ+ and people with disabilities. Signees asserted that their talents are overlooked, denied and discredited, professional opportunities foreclosed and careers foreshortened.
“We have watched from the outside as white stunt performers are painted down, suited/helmeted or men wigged in a grotesque simulation of those of us denied employment,” they said. “Modern-day blackface is Hollywood’s shameful secret. We’ve been taunted, ostracized, harassed and threatened simply for showing up or speaking up. We have been shut down, shut up and shut out for far too long.
In response, the performers union said, “SAG-AFTRA stands in solidarity with performers whose opportunities to work in stunt roles have been denied or limited because of bias against women,...

In August, a photo surfaced of a boy in an Afro wig with makeup-darkened skin standing in for 11-year-old African-American actor Keith L. Williams on the Vancouver set of “Good Boys,” a comedy about three sixth-graders who ditch school and wind up on a road trip. The image sparked online outrage, and Seth Rogen, one of the film’s producers, quickly apologized, declaring that on all future projects his team would “take every precaution to make sure something similar does not take place again.”
It turned out that the boy in the makeup, reportedly the son of a stuntman, was African-American but had a lighter skin tone than Williams.
The revelation doesn’t change the disturbing nature of the visual — which summons the racist specter of blackface. But it speaks to challenges facing the stunt community as it grapples to provide minority representation in a charged sociopolitical atmosphere where a...

Disney/Marvel’s Black Panther won the marquee film ensemble prize Sunday at the 25th annual SAG Awards, topping a loaded field of fellow Oscar nominees and making it a serious contender for next month’s Academy Awards.
“It’s a pleasure to be celebrated by you, to be loved by you,” star Chadwick Boseman said to conclude a rousing speech onstage at the Shrine Auditorium. “And you know you can’t have a Black Panther now without a ‘two’ on it,” — a reference to a pending sequel to the pic, which grossed $1.35 billion this year.
Sunday’s kudos were the first chance since last week’s Oscar nominations for those in the race to establish frontrunner status. Black Panther certainly helped itself tonight against fellow Oscar noms BlacKkKlansman, Bohemian Rhapsody and A Star Is Born who were nommed tonight along with Crazy Rich Asians.

We don’t usually feature short films on this site until they are actually complete, allowing us to share them here. But I thought this one deserved to be an exception.
The story goes… Jwaundace Candece has been a Hollywood stunt woman for just about her entire career in the business, which goes back to 2001. She’s doubled for actresses like Queen Latifah in a fight scene in Bringing Down the House, and again for Latifah is Scary Movie 3, Taxi and Last Holiday, all at Latifah’s request. Essentially, she hooked the sistah up with steady work which is great!
Jwaundace has also doubled for Academy Award winners Mo’Nique in some of the more physical scenes in Precious, likely the fight between mother and daughter towards the end of the film; Jennifer Hudson in Dreamgirls, though I can’t immediately think of what scenes specifically; and Whoopi Goldberg in The Cleaner,...
