Titles join Netflix’s growing catalogue of European film fare.
Netflix has acquired Dutch box office hits Tuscan Wedding and Loving Ibiza as well as the latter’s TV spin-off series for global release in a deal brokered by Netherlands sales agent Incredible Films.
Both films were directed by Johan Nijenhuis who has a long track record in producing crowd-pleasing romantic comedies.
“We are delighted to see that a major global platform such as Netflix has such a strong interest in our Dutch feature films and TV-series,” said Incredible Films CEO Danielle Raaphorst.
Incredible Films is currently gearing up for Mipcom where it will be selling Nijenhuis’s latest romantic comedy Skirt Day, revolving around 16 participants on a speed-dating cookery class.
The company will also roll-out Loving Ibiza and Tuscan Wedding producer Klaas de Jong’s latest production The Grass Is Always Greener about a Christmas family reunion in Suriname, which is in post-production...

At the Holland Film Meeting (Hfm) several new projects and new policy initiatives have been announced.
Hfm (Sept 24-27) is the industry component of the Netherlands Film Festival, the 10-day event in Utrecht showcasing he best in Dutch film and which culminates with the most prestigious prizes in Dutch Film - the Golden Calf awards.
The festival itself started in rancorous fashion with the news that producer Klaas de Jong had pulled Roel Reiné’s seafaring epic Michiel de Ruyter from the competition.
De Jong was unhappy that the film hadn’t been nominated for a Best Picture award despite being one of the most commercial Dutch movies of the year.
He complained in the local press that the awards were too arthouse-oriented and didn’t pay enough attention to films that reached the popular audience.
Festival director Willemien van Aalst strongly denied that the festival was ignoring populist fare.

XLrator Media has acquired North American rights from Arclight Films to the Dutch historical epic that premiered in Berlin earlier this year.
The distributor will release Admiral via its Turbo action label in early 2016.
Roel Reiné directed and Klaas de Jong produced the 17th century-set story that takes place during the Anglo-Dutch naval wars and centres on Holland’s Admiral Michiel de Ruyter. Charles Dance, Rutger Hauer and Frank Lammers star.
“Admiral is a dazzling film of epic proportions with larger-than-life naval battles that haven’t been seen since Master And Commander,” said XLrator Media CEO Barry Gordon.
“Audiences will be blown away by the amazing cinematography and action set-pieces, coupled with stunning performances from the entire cast. As proven by the huge success of the Game Of Thrones series and our own recent Ironclad films, action fans have a huge appetite for exciting content based on historical facts and themes.
