After waging war with House Atreides in Dune: Part Two, Dave Bautista trades his Harkonnen armor for something more discrete as he slips into the role of a hitman on borrowed time in The Killer’s Game trailer. Lionsgate shared the first trailer, poster, and images for the upcoming action comedy from director J.J. Perry. The promo features the former wrestler-turned-Hollywood superstar as an assassin with a dry wit fighting for his life after receiving a false diagnosis from his doctor. Thinking he’s suffering from a terminal illness and only has three months to live, Bautista’s hitman, Joe Flood, must survive an onslaught of savvy killers looking to collect his head.
Here’s the official synopsis for The Killer’s Game courtesy of Lionsgate:
In the new action-comedy The Killer’S Game, when top hitman Joe Flood (Dave Bautista) is diagnosed with a terminal illness, he decides to take matters into...

Track by Track is our recurring feature series in which artists guide readers through each song on a release. Today, Raffaella gets into her brand new EP, Live, Raff, Love (Act II).
Indie pop songwriter and Consequence CoSign Raffaella has released a brand new EP, Live, Raff, Love (Act II), a follow up to 2022’s Act I EP. Bigger and darker, the second act functions as the shadow to the first act’s light, creating a dialogue between each other. If Act I was a revolution, Act II is a revelation.
Each song on Live, Raff, Love (Act II) acts as a companion piece to its respective counterpart on the previous EP, and each song pairing has its own overarching theme. Some touch on more abstract ideas like love and adulthood, while others get more complex and detailed, such as learning to speak up for oneself in spite of expectations to be the ideal woman.

After having spoken to directors Sam H. Freeman and Ng Choon Ping following the SXSW premiere of their proof of concept short of the same name back in 2021, we welcome the filmmaking duo back to Dn today to dive into their feverish neo-noir revenge thriller feature Femme. The pair have dynamically built upon the world they presented in the short film by taking the innermost struggles and fears faced by their two central characters and amplifying everything around them, resulting in a tension-fuelled wild ride and crushing crescendo of realisation. Femme centres around the disguises used by Jules, played by Nathan Stewart-Jarrett and Preston, played by George MacKay, as we see a treacherous game of cat and mouse play out on screen as Jules plans to exact revenge on Preston for the horrific act of violence unleashed upon him. Femme is as beautiful visually as it is engaging narratively, with...

Blonde Redhead are back with the new single “Before,” another sample of their upcoming album Sit Down for Dinner.
“Before” is billed as “one of the most sonically playful tracks on the album,” and encapsulates the feeling of being a kid and thinking you’re wise before the world inevitable jades you: “I don’t need to see/ I already know/ I can tell you I’ve seen it all before/ Once upon a time/ Was I a silent child seen it all before/ Stop before you run/ Before you make a run/ Turn it upside down,” vocalist Kazu Makino sings over a skittish beat.
Kazu explains the song’s backstory further in a statement: “Some children seem quite knowing as if they remember their past lives… or at least that’s the impression I get. The song is a sort of celebration of that kind of quality in a young person.

Ron Howard’s masterful portrait of the 2018 Thai cave rescue may have been hindered by a summer release and/or following the 2021 doc The Rescue. It deserves another look.
Best Director
Joseph Kosinski, Top Gun: Maverick
Maverick is one of 2022’s most critically and commercially successful films. It didn’t direct itself. Kosinski may not have a high profile, but he deserves respect.
Best Actor
Paul Mescal, Aftersun
For his subtle performance as a struggling young father in Charlotte Wells’ acclaimed indie, the Normal People star is already up for Critics Choice and Spirit awards. (His young co-star, Frankie Corio, is equally worthy.)
Best Actress
Ana de Armas, Blonde
Sure, the film’s too long and, in the eyes of some, exploitative — but that’s not the fault of this Cuban talent, who took a huge swing and hit a home run with her performance.

wards season rolls ever onwards and today it was the turn of the Screen Actors Guild to announce their nominations. The SAG Awards have often been a useful pointer towards who will be nominated for acting Oscars, and indeed many of the expected choices are present here – Cate Blanchett, the Banshees Of Inisherin cast and, even more welcome, the ensemble of Everything Everywhere All At Once.
Newer breakthroughs are also expected names who have popped up elsewhere, such as Elvis' Austin Butler and Till's Danielle Deadwyler. And Brendan Fraser's "comeback" on The Whale also lands on the list here.
More surprising, perhaps, were those who didn't make the cut, such as The Fabelmans' Michelle Williams (while her co-star Paul Dano did) and a snub for the ensemble of Top Gun: Maverick.
The awards will be handed out at a ceremony to be broadcast via Netflix's YouTube channel on 26 February.

The Makeup Artists & Hair Stylists Guild got a jump on the Oscars by announcing nominations for its awards on the eve of academy members starting to vote. Of the 10 films that remain in the running for Best Makeup and Hairstyling at the Oscars, seven are vying for these precursor prizes.
“The Batman” and “Elvis” reaped three bids apiece with the guild; “Amsterdam,” “Babylon,” “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” and “Blonde” earned two each; and and “The Whale” has one.
Three films still in contention at the Academy Awards — “All Quiet on the Western Front,” “Crimes of the Future” and “Emancipation” — were snubbed by the guild.
Conversely, several of the Muahs favorites — “Everything Everywhere All at Once” and “The Menu,” — didn’t make the cut with the academy in phase 1 of voting.
The 10th annual Makeup Artists & Hair Stylists Guild Awards are set for Feb. 11.

We're back at the Hollywood ballot box, folks. Awards season is back upon us, and we're starting off strong with some major contenders for the 2023 Screen Actors Guild Awards Awards. "The White Lotus" star Haley Lu Richardson and "Emily in Paris" star Ashley Park announced the nominations via livestream early on January 11. The ceremony will be next month on February 26 and will be accessible for viewing via YouTube and Netflix. SAG used to have an air deal with TBS and TNT — which is probably where you remember watching the SAGs if you've been a viewer in the past — but that deal expired last year.
As for the slate of film nominees, a lot of the patterns we've seen so far are continuing. Brandon Fraser is getting praise for his emotional turn in "The Whale," and Cate Blanchett is getting her flowers for her fierce performance in "Tár." But something cool...

The Screen Actors Guild has announced the nominations for its 29th annual awards.
Honouring both film and TV, the awards are voted on by the Hollywood actors’ guild SAG-AFTRA.
This year’s ceremony will be live-streamed on Netflix’s YouTube channel on Sunday 26 February, beginning at 8pm Est.
The move comes after the SAG Awards lost their longtime broadcast home on TNT and TBS. On Wednesday (11 January), they announced a new multiyear partnership with Netflix to stream the ceremony.
The SAG Awards have long been considered one of the most reliable Oscar predictors. Typically, if a film ensemble isn’t among the SAG Awards nominees, it’s unlikely to win Best Picture at the March Academy Awards.

It appears the Hollywood Foreign Press Association is getting a second chance as big-name stars turned out for the 2023 Golden Globe Awards. Hosted by Jerrod Carmichael, the HFPA’s dicey reputation didn’t keep NBC from airing the 2023 show after canceling the event in 2022.
The Banshees of Inisherin went into the night with the most nominations of any film and wound up winning in the Best Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy (Colin Farrell), and Best Screenplay categories. Steven Spielberg’s most personal film to date, The Fabelmans, was named Best Picture – Drama and Spielberg took home the Best Director trophy.
Abbott Elementary was nominated in five categories, topping the list on the television side going into the night.

The Golden Globes attempted to make a big comeback this year, following 2022's embarrassing lack of a televised ceremony in the wake of revelations about backing organisation the Hollywood Foreign Press Association's legacy of racially troubling decisions, corruption and other issues. Though Ricky Gervais was not around to stick a knife in, host Jerrod Carmichael aimed for truth-telling and satire from the start, though it was tough to avoid a feeling that this was an awards show with a cloud hanging over it.
Presenters awkwardly had to hand out different categories and, while the alcohol was clearly flowing, the whole affair had a typically undisciplined feel.
Film-wise, there were some expected wins.
On the TV front, Ryan Murphy was handed lifetime achievement award and gave perhaps the night's best speech, acknowledging and celebrating a wealth of those who appeared in his shows or helped make them. The White Lotus scored...

These awards are handed out by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, an organization of around 100 international entertainment journalists. But the group has come under fire over the years for their voting practices. The last straw came in 2021 when a report revealed that the HFPA didn’t have a single Black member. NBC consequently pulled the 2022 telecast, Tom Cruise returned his trophies, and the HFPA set about changing.
The group expanded its membership and added around 100 more non-member voters, so we’re dealing with quite a different Globes landscape this time around. They also added a couple of categories, splitting the TV supporting races...

Yes, the Golden Globes were boycotted by most of Hollywood last year. Yes, Tom Cruise handed back all of his past Globes in protest. Yes, no one can quite agree what the point of the Golden Globes even is. Still, 12 months after the annual awards show went untelevised for the first time in its 77-year history, they are back! For… reasons!
Hosted by Jerrod Carmichael, the beleaguered ceremony returns tonight with numerous clouds hanging over it. Cruise, he of the one-man protest, isn’t nominated for Top Gun: Maverick, despite seeming to be a shoo-in. Brendan Fraser, who has long alleged that he was sexually assaulted by the former president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association – the organisation behind the show – isn’t going to attend despite being nominated. And no one’s really talking about the very valid criticisms of the Association’s past lack of Black members, nor...

Patti Smith hosted a New York screening of Corsage last week, one of many showings since the Oscar-shortlisted Best International Feature contender premiered to a warm welcome in Cannes, where it won Best Performance, Un Certain Regard, for star Vicky Krieps as the Empress Elisabeth of Austria, Sisi for short. It’s fitting that Smith, royalty of the avant-garde, came out to support a film about an iconoclastic princess.
The musician, poet and artist, “has been a fan of Vicky since Phantom Thread” — Krieps’ 2017 breakout role as muse to a haute couture designer played by Daniel Day-Lewis. “She even has a Phantom Thread club. She saw the [Corsage] trailer and kind of fell for it,” says Corsage writer-director Marie Kreutzer.
In her film, Krieps is muse to an empire as the stunning, slightly off-kilter, fashion-forward wife of Emperor Franz Joseph I in the latter 1800s. She died in 1898, remaining one...

The London Film Critics’ Circle, the oldest such organization on Planet Earth, announced the nominations for their forthcoming awards ceremony. As might be expected, they “led local,” with the highest number of nominations going to Martin McDonagh’s “The Banshees of Inisherin” and Charlotte Wells’ “Aftersun.” The McDonagh film, which stars Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson, is set on an island of tall tales off the west coast of Ireland. The Scottish Wells set her memoir-ish movie at a 2-star Turkish resort, which caters mostly to British tourists.
“Inisherin” has nine nominations, for Film of the Year, Director of the Year, Screenwriter of the Year, Actor of the Year (Farrell), two for Supporting Actor of the Year (Gleeson and Barry Keoghan), Supporting Actress of the Year (Kerry Condon), and a nomination for The Attenborough Award for Best British/Irish film.
