Ricky Martin has been tapped to headline L.A. Pride in the Park this summer.
The performance will mark the Grammy Award-winner’s first time taking center stage at a Pride event and the organization’s first time with an openly gay Latin artist as a headliner. L.A. Pride in the Park will return to the Los Angeles State Historic Park on June 8, and will boast a theme of “Power in Pride.”
The news for Martin comes as he’s currently seen on the small screen in the Apple TV+ series Palm Royale opposite Kristen Wiig, Josh Lucas, Leslie Bibb, Laura Dern, Allison Janney, Kaia Gerber and Carol Burnett, among others. “I am thrilled to be headlining L.A. Palm Royale with its meticulously matched period décor and costuming is a true immersion in late 1960s Palm Beach culture. But while watching the Apple TV+ series, one can’t help but see the connections between the topics that were emerging as national concerns then and the biggest social issues now.
“It’s so cool to think about how far we’ve come as women and that we have so many options today, but 1969 isn’t that long ago,” says Leslie Bibb, who stars in the Kristen Wiig-starring comedy as Dinah, a woman desperate to maintain her wealthy status after marrying for money rather than love. “It’s not that far back that women’s rights weren’t an issue.”

Last weekend’s break-filled Saturday Night Live didn’t, um, break any ratings records for the late-night sketch show, but it did build on last week’s ratings gains to deliver the show’s largest audience in months.
The sketch show hauled in an average of 4,704,000 total viewers and 983,000 P18-49 viewers on April 13, 2024, per live-plus-same-day data from Nielsen.
Out of the 17 SNL episodes that have aired this season to-date, the Gosling-fronted episode comes in at No. 3 overall in total viewers, and delivered the show’s largest linear audience since the Oct. 28, 2023 show hosted by Nate Bargatze.
This weekend’s Ryan Gosling-hosted episode gained +3% in total viewers from the previous edition of SNL (hosted on April 6 by Kristen Wiig), while its 983,000 P18-49 live-plus-same-day delivery was -10% from the Wiig episode. After a shortened 2022-23 season, Saturday Night Live returned a bit later than usual to kick off its 2023-24 run.
The writers strike affected both the end of last season and the start of season 49; the end of the labor action on Sept. 25 meant a mid-October start for SNL — with former castmember Pete Davidson hosting — rather than the late September or early October premiere the show usually has. (The cast is covered under a different SAG-AFTRA contract than the one actors are currently striking against, so they can perform without crossing picket lines.)
The show’s cast returned intact from last season, with James Austin Johnson and Sarah Sherman moving up from featured players to repertory players. Chloe Troast joined the cast as a featured player.

After a run of three live shows in a row, Saturday Night Live is taking a two-week break. But before heading off on vacation, the show announced its next episode.
Dua Lipa is set to both host and serve as musical guest on Saturday May 4th. She will be the second host to pull double duty this season, after Bad Bunny.
It’ll be the British-Albanian pop star’s third visit to the live sketch show. She previously appeared as musical guest on February 3, 2018 and December 19, 2020.
On her second visit to the show, which happened to coincide with Kristen Wiig’s fourth hosting stint, she memorably appeared in U.S.O. Performance, a World War II-era musical sketch that saw her playing opposite Wiig and Bowen Yang.
Lipa’s third studio album, “Radical Optimism,” releases on May 3rd (the day before her SNL return).

Hot on the heels of an episode that saw host Kristen Wiig and a cadre of guest stars participate in a series of warmly received recurring sketches, Saturday Night Live looks to be at it again.
According to a show insider, another classic recurring character is set to return tonight—and it won’t be played by host Ryan Gosling or anyone on the show’s current cast.
With that tantalizing tip, it’s on to the speculation portion of this post. Between the news of the week, characters Ryan Gosling interacted with in his first two hosting stints, and one other interesting breadcrumb left by the show, which characters seem most likely to make an appearance?
One obvious but somewhat probably unlikely possibility is an appearance from Tim Meadows as O.J. Simpson. Meadows played Simpson throughout the show’s 20th season when Simpson’s trial was a recurring sketch.

[This story is focused on the sixth episode of Palm Royale, “Maxine Takes a Step.”]
In Palm Royale, parties and Palm Beach high society go together like Maxine Dellacorte (Kristen Wiig) and her signature grasshopper cocktail. But pulling off these ostentatious displays of wealth and popularity disguised as charitable events, episode after episode, was no small feat for the production team behind the Apple TV+ series.
“We shot episode one and two together with Tate Taylor directing, and it was back-to-back balls. Then we got to episode four and there was another one, and then we got to episode six and there was another one, and we’re like, ‘Oh my God, we’re doing Palm Beach Bridgerton,’” production designer Jon Carlos tells The Hollywood Reporter. “We realized we really have to up the ante on every single one of these parties. They have to be insane and then the next one has to be even more insane.”

CinemaCon attendees got an extended clip from Illumination’s Despicable Me 4 at Universal’s presentation Wednesday in Las Vegas.
In it, Gru (Steve Carell) teams with the villainess Poppy (Joey King) to steal a honey badger from a castle/private school. Two Minions and Gru’s baby son Junior are in tow. Calamity ensues as the honey badger awakes and creates havoc, with Gru getting hit in the butt with a tranquilizer shot.
Illumination Boss Chris Meledandri introduced the clip today at the Caesars Colosseum, thanking exhibitors for the sleeper success of his animation studio’s Migration ($293 million in box office).
“In case of any doubt, our commitment to produce original animation film remains steadfast,” said Meledandri.

‘Despicable Me 4’ CinemaCon Footage: Gru Pulls Off ‘Mission: Impossible’ Heist Armed With Diaper Bag
Gru, the recovering supervillain turned huggable and lovable dad, is back in action.
Universal premiered a new sequence from “Despicable Me 4,” the latest installment in the studio and its partner Illumination’s long-running animated franchise, at CinemaCon in Las Vegas on Wednesday. It featured an aspiring villainess (Joey King) as well as a new addition to the Gru family — Gru Jr., who bears a strong resemblance to his beak-nosed namesake — as they attempted a “Mission: Impossible” style heist of a heavily fortified castle. The only problem is Gru’s assistants, the Minions, brought the wrong equipment. Instead of his gear and gadgets, he is armed with only a diaper bag. That means Gru is left to deal with lasers, guards and a vicious honey badger with only diaper rash cream, baby bottles and a pacifier to protect him. It doesn’t help that Gru Jr. keeps crawling around, inadvertently setting off booby traps.

She truly is her mother’s daughter. A fashion model through and through, Kaia Gerber has often shown that she can turn any activity into a fashion moment. And by any activity, I mean even watching a celestial event unfold.
On Monday, Cindy Crawford’s 22-year-old daughter was beaming as she left the “Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” studios after promoting her new Apple TV show Palm Royale. She seemed to be headed to see the total solar eclipse, much like many other people in New York.
Looking excited, Gerber showed the awaiting crowd her blue Iso-approved solar eclipse glasses, all set to witness the rare phenomenon where the moon passes between the Earth and the sun, blocking the sun and casting a shadow on Earth.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Palm Royale Season 2, Episode 6, “Maxine Takes a Step.”] Palm Royale‘s sixth episode made way for some landmark scenes onscreen as star Laura Dern, who plays Linda Shaw, shared the screen with her real-life father and famed actor Bruce Dern who portrays Linda’s dad, Skeet. After the reveal in Episode 5 that Linda had accidentally shot her dad years ago, she came to Skeet’s rehab facility to reveal that the gun that had been used was finally gone forever after Maxine (Kristen Wiig) threw it in the ocean, meaning there’s no evidence to ever link her to the shooting, which is a relief to them both. (Credit: Apple TV+) With this knowledge, Skeet admits that he’s ready to end his suffering and therefore his life. It’s a tough pill for Linda to swallow, but she promises that it’s okay for him to go, opting for...

Ryan Gosling is bringing his Kenergy to Saturday Night Live this week, alongside musical guest Chris Stapleton.
The Oscar-nominated Barbie actor will serve as the sketch comedy show’s host for the third time, and if his promo is any indication, viewers are in for a laugh.
The 45-second video sees Gosling hovering near Stapleton’s dressing room door with a photo of the country artist for him to sign. The actor wears a black T-shirt with a white horse and the artist’s name on it, as he tries to work up the courage to approach the musician for his autograph.
“‘Mr. Stapleton, big fan, love your music,'” The Fall Guy star says as he attempts to find the right words to approach the Grammy winner. “Nah, that’s stupid. ‘Yo Chris, one for the ‘gram?'” Gosling brainstorms as he gestures posing for a selfie. “Master Stapleton,...

“Mr. Stapleton, big fan, love your music,” Gosling says in the preview. “Nah, it’s stupid.”
Gosling tries another line, saying, “Yo Chris! One for the gram?” as he takes out his mobile device to take a selfie with the singer.
The Barbie actor finally gets the courage to open Stapleton’s room. Gosling sees Stapleton’s cowboy hat and can’t resist the temptation to sport it and take on his persona.

Kristen Wiig was inducted into Saturday Night Live’s “Five-Timers Club” this past weekend with a little help from her friends Matt Damon, Jon Hamm, Paul Rudd, Will Forte, Fred Armisen, Martin Short, Ryan Gosling, and Paula Pell.
Joined by musical guest Raye, Wiig, a Saturday Night Live cast member from 2005-2012, hosted SNL’s April 6, 2024 episode, and it averaged 4,575,000 total viewers and 1,083,000 P18-49 viewers, per live-plus-same-day data from Nielsen.
If those numbers look big, that’s because they are. Out of the 16 SNL episodes that have aired this season to-date, the April 6 episode comes in at No. 4 overall in total viewers, and is up +18% from the most-recent SNL episode (hosted by Ramy Youssef a week earlier). Nearly 50 years in, Saturday Night Live’s once exclusive Five-Timer’s Club has become, well, less so.
It’s not because Lorne Michaels has been handing out the jackets to folks who haven’t actually hosted five times (which was this joke on this show this weekend). The reality is that with the addition of Kristen Wiig this past weekend, 27 people have now hosted the show five or more times.
But who will be next to earn the honorary Five-Timers jacket? Our podcast partners at the Saturday Night Network recently compiled a list of the most likely possibilities, those with four episodes already under their belt:

And you thought that Stabler family dinner was tense.
This Thursday’s Law & Order: Organized Crime (NBC, 10/9c) will find Randall and Elliot attempting to help Joe Jr., whom they’re fairly sure is using heroin. Given the episode’s official synopsis — which notes that “Joe Jr. takes drastic action when his brothers try to stage an intervention” — we’re guessing that this intervention will go roughly as well as Elliot’s in Season 1. (Maybe Joe Jr. will even blurt out “I love you” to an unsuspecting participant?)

It's always a thrill when a former "Saturday Night Live" cast member comes back to Studio 8H to host the late night sketch comedy show. That's especially true when it's a cast member as beloved as Kristen Wiig. That last time the "Bridesmaids" star hosted "SNL" was in December 2020, and it just so happens the best sketch of the night was a new holiday favorite where she plays a mother who gets a robe for Christmas while the rest of the family gets a plethora of better gifts. However, since Kristen Wiig was hosting "SNL" for a fifth time this past weekend, she got a different robe. And she wasn't the only one.
While it's become customary for newly inducted Five Timers Club hosts to get monologue bits that bring back some legendary hosts like Steve Martin and Tom Hanks, it's not always logistically possible to make it a star-studded affair.

When Kristen Wiig took the stage in Studio 8H to host “Saturday Night Live” April 6, she achieved one of the most coveted milestones in sketch comedy: joining the Five-Timers Club. One of the show’s longest-running traditions is gifting people who have hosted five times an honorary jacket during their monologue, which typically features appearances from other celebrities in the club.
“I am so happy to be back, and I am so excited because it is my fifth time hosting,” Wiig said when she took the stage. “So I’m officially in the Five-Timers Club!”
But while Wiig’s monologue did feature plenty of A-list cameos, few actually had the distinction of being Five-Timers. She was quickly visited by Matt Damon, who wore the special jacket despite having only hosted the show twice.

They might have eight Oscar wins between them, rave reviews from critics, a combined box office total north of $2.4 billion, and an adorable couple nickname -- but "Barbie" and "Oppenheimer" have left at least one person decidedly unimpressed. Former "Saturday Night Live" cast member Kristen Wiig returned to the show this week for her fifth time as host, and brought a familiar character with her: the Weekend Update desk's cultural correspondent, Aunt Linda.
With facial expressions worthy of a YouTube thumbnail, a haircut that screams "I'd like to speak to the manager," and some kind of accent, Aunt Linda isn't the type to just go with the critical consensus on Rotten Tomatoes. She (somewhat hypocritically) tears into the excessive amount of pink in "Barbie," queries the geographical location of Barbieland, and rejects the movie's feminist messaging. Ryan Gosling is the only sacred cow that doesn't get slain ("He's very hard...

Saturday Night Live alum Kristen Wiig returned the show last night, becoming the second Season 49 host to join the Five-Timers Club, following Emma Stone last December. Although a bevy of surprise guests cut into her screen time, she still managed to rack up almost 21 minutes, constituting just over one-third of the episode.
Scroll down to see how each of the show’s named performers stacked up against Wiig, including first-time musical guest Raye and upcoming host Ryan Gosling. Note that our screen time data is calculated using a method that prioritizes face time, meaning that any contiguous (off-screen but in-scene) moments and practically all partial body appearances do not count. Screen time in the show’s opening credits, bumpers and goodnights are not included, nor do those portions factor into our assessment of the episode’s total running time.
