Gravity opens in Us theaters this Friday – prepare to go inside the astronaut’s suits and for one thrilling ride!
The intentional demolition of an obsolete satellite sends sharp fragments hurtling into space, setting off a chain reaction that puts the fast-growing debris field on a collision course with the Space Shuttle “Explorer”. The inescapable impact is catastrophic, destroying the shuttle and leaving Mission Specialist Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock) and Mission Commander Matt Kowalski (George Clooney) as the lone survivors. All communication with Mission Control has been lost…and, with it, any chance of rescue. Adrift in the void, the two must find a way to see past their own limitations and escape their inertia if they are...

Dr. Ryan Stone (Bullock) is a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalski (Clooney) in command. But on a seemingly routine mission, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalski completely alone—tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness. The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth…and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left.
But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space.

Remember the 2003 film Open Water where 2 scuba divers were left stranded and adrift in the ocean surrounded by sharks? Only this time, it’s two astronauts stranded and adrift in outer space running out of oxygen in director Alfonso Cuarón’s Gravity.
I haven’t even seen the movie and the three scenes below are already giving me an anxiety attack.
Here they are in order… strap yourself in and get ready for a white-knuckle ride.
Good recruitment videos at Space Camp, dontcha think?

Gravity is a highly anticipated film for me. I’ve been hearing about the film for over a year and I’m a fan of Cuarón’s work. I’m also genuinely excited that his work is being talked about and he has the highest possible audience looking at him when this film releases. Children of Men was simply a masterpiece of sci-fi drama. Gravity seems like a simple premise but this also gives Cuarón a great advantage to inject his style and technical prowess into a film to make it extraordinary. Typically, I don’t like showing off clips of a film out of context but this single take scene just needs to be seen.
