HBO has responded to a former production health adviser who alleges in a lawsuit that she was wrongfully fired in May after speaking out against problems she perceived with the coronavirus testing vendor hired
during production, saying she had been the subject of complaints of serious misconduct by other employees.
Georgia Hesse’s Los Angeles Superior Court lawsuit alleges wrongful termination, whistle blower retaliation, age harassment and common law intentional interference with contractual relations. The 56-year-old plaintiff was a production health adviser for the second season of the hit HBO drama, Winning Time: The Rise Of The Lakers Dynasty, and was responsible for assisting the show in complying with coronavirus health and safety requirements, according to the suit filed Sept. 13.
“Hesse was on the front lines of protecting crew from the global Covid pandemic,” her suit states.

A former Covid-19 compliance supervisor for Dexter: New Blood is suing Paramount Global, alleging she was hindered from doing her job and ultimately fired to keep the production on track.
In a lawsuit filed on Thursday in New York federal court, Jennifer Lyon says she was excluded from meetings, provided minimal resources and undermined when she raised Covid compliance concerns in an intentional effort to obstruct her attempts to follow virus protocols. While she was told she had far-reaching authority that extended to halting production, she claims she actually had a toothless position with little power.
Lyon, who has worked on several big-budget series filmed during the pandemic, according to the complaint, made accusations that the Dexter production and — in her view — others like it subverted Covid protocols: Staff compliance departments with incompetent employees and hamstring qualified workers by diminishing their authority,...

During the height of the pandemic and in the months since, Hollywood productions routinely cut corners while trying to balance tight filming schedules against strict Covid-19 safety protocols, some insiders say. In September, a former HBO health adviser, Georgia Hesse, sued the company for wrongful termination, claiming she was fired for raising a red flag that CineMedics, a third-party COVID-testing vendor, used an unapproved and inferior test during the production of HBO’s Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty. Hesse’s complaint alleges that HBO was aware of the fraud but ignored it in order to keep the production on track, endangering crewmembers and violating industry safety protocols. “It’s unknown to Plaintiff, at this point, why producers and HBO favored a vendor who lied to them, ripped them off, fabricated medical records and put the lives and safety of cast and crew at risk by peddling overpriced,...

A former HBO health adviser, Georgia Hesse, is suing the company for wrongfully terminating her after she claimed a Covid-19 testing vendor endangered crewmembers by fraudulently using the wrong type of test on the production of Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty.
The crew was falsely told they were receiving lab-based Pcr tests when they were actually receiving lower efficacy rapid tests, in violation of industry testing protocols, the complaint filed on Tuesday in Los Angeles Superior Court alleges. The lawsuit accuses HBO of knowing about the fraud and sweeping it under the rug to keep the production on track.
