Part of the beauty of the "Star Wars" universe is how big and populated it is. Not only did the original trilogy deliver groundbreaking visual effects, but George Lucas wrote enough backstory and worldbuilding while working on the first film to sustain decades' worth of "Star Wars" movies. That worldbuilding also resulted in hundreds of smaller background characters that became overnight fan favorites once the movies — and the merchandise — started arriving. Even the most inconsequential one-off characters suddenly became beloved by audiences despite there being little to no official information available about them — at least, until we got entire novels and books devoted to every Glup Shitto and Max Rebo out there.
Of course, not every character gets that treatment. In fact, there is one character we only know the name of because the actor decided to take matters into his own hands during shooting — Quarsh Panaka. You remember that guy,...

As much as "Star Wars" might seem like a clear net-positive for any actor's career, history has shown that it's not always as good as it sounds. Jake Lloyd, who played young Anakin in the first movie, was famously bullied out of acting for his supposedly bad performance. Natalie Portman also struggled to find work after the prequels because her performance as Padme was considered pretty wooden too. Basically everyone involved in these movies is indeed a perfectly fine actor; the problem was just that George Lucas is bad at directing his actors, as shown by how even Christopher Lee and Samuel L. Jackson seemed to performing below their abilites.
Even in the agreed-upon good movies in the franchise, the actors involved could sometimes struggle to find meaty roles later on. Mark Hamill became a much-celebrated voice actor after the original trilogy, while Carrie Fisher carved out a career for...

There's a lot about the "Star Wars" franchise that doesn't make a ton of sense. This was okay during the original trilogy, which left us with plenty of room to fill in the gaps on our own, but the subsequent prequels have made things a bit more complicated. They've even taken moments from the original trilogy that initially seemed logical and retroactively made them a little confusing. For instance, why does R2-D2 not interfere when Leia makes out with her brother in "The Empire Strikes Back"? The rascally droid could've saved the two from so much embarrassment later on.
On a more serious note, another now-questionable moment from the original trilogy concerns Emperor Palpatine's lightning powers. The climax of "Return of the Jedi" involves Palpatine torturing Luke with lightning for a significant period of time, and yet Luke recovers from it all unscathed. Luke comes out of it just...

New Star Wars movies are finally on the way. Lucasfilm has recently announced a new Rey movie set 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker, as well as a movie tracking the origin of the Jedi from James Mangold, and a Mandoverse event film from Dave Filoni. Plus, Taika Waititi is writing a Star Wars movie he might also star in, while Deadpool 3 director Shawn Levy has signed up to do something in the galaxy far, far away, too. After years of waiting, fans have a whole slate of new Star Wars movies to look forward to, with the first said to be releasing as early as 2025.
But we’ve all been here before, haven’t we? It feels like only yesterday that Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy announced a Rogue Squadron movie directed by Wonder Woman‘s Patty Jenkins for a 2023 release. And remember when a Disney exec said Kevin Feige...

Lucasfilm seems to finally be full steam ahead with its slate of Star Wars films. At Star Wars Celebration in April, studio president Kathleen Kennedy confirmed three new pictures set in the galaxy far, far away, including a Mandoverse event film to be directed by Dave Filoni and a Jedi origin movie from James Mangold. Then there’s perhaps the most surprising installment of the trio: a new Rey movie directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy that will see Daisy Ridley reprise her role just a few years after the release of The Rise of Skywalker.
Ridley’s return to her most famous role so soon after the end of her trilogy is unprecedented in Star Wars history, to say the least. There was a 32-year gap between Return of the Jedi and Mark Hamill’s return as Luke Skywalker in The Force Awakens, and it took 17 years to get Ewan McGregor...

There is a big chance that your favorite era of "Star Wars" is going to be whatever was prominent when you were a kid. For '90s and 2000s kids, that was the Clone Wars era — or as Lucasfilm now calls it, the Fall of the Jedi era. This felt like a truly exciting time for the "Star Wars" franchise, because the movies gave us cool and epic fights with tons of Jedi, incredible worlds, and more, but also video games like "Battlefront" and "Republic Commando" made clones as cool and badass as the Jedi, while both "Clone Wars" and "The Clone Wars" expanded the galaxy, shining a light on the titular war that forever changed it.
Not that there was anything wrong with what Lucasfilm calls the Age of Rebellion from the original trilogy, but those told a familiar and recognizable story of a small band of heroes fighting an evil empire.

Daughter Billie Lourd and Star Wars co-star Mark Hamill paid tribute to the late Carrie Fisher on Thursday in a ceremony that awarded her a posthumous star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The event took place on May 4, also known as Star Wars Day.
Lourd wore a dress that featured an image of Fisher’s Star Wars character Princess Leia while speaking about her mom.

“People’s love for Leia didn’t die with my mom, it continues to get passed on from generation to generation, just like my mom passed it on to me, and I am now passing it onto my children. And hopefully, they will pass it onto theirs,” Lourd said.
She later added, “I feel so lucky that even though they won’t get to meet my mom, they will get to know a piece of her through Leia.

Carrie Fisher received her long overdue star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday — Star Wars Day. The May 4 ceremony saw her honored by her daughter Billie Lourd, and some other famous “Star Wars” faces. Upon Lourd’s arrival, fans immediately fell in love with her dress, which featured an image of her mother as Princess Leia. And, as it turns out, that dress actually fulfilled a very specific request from Fisher.
In a tweet on Friday morning, Lourd posted a photo of her in the dress, alongside a screenshot of an interview her mother did with Harper’s Bazaar in 2014. In the final moments of that interview, Rodarte designers Laura and Kate Mulleavy told Fisher “we’d love to invite you to our show sometime.”
“Cool. I want to see a dress with Leia on it,” Fisher responded.

Carrie Fisher is being honored posthumously with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and her daughter and costar both paid their respects to the late legend at the event. Fisher received the star on May 4, also known as Star Wars Day, and her daughter, Billie Lourd, and costar Mark Hamill both honored her with speeches and posed alongside Star Wars mainstays C-3Po and R2-D2.
Hamill kicked off the ceremony by sharing his love for his onscreen sibling, who died in 2016. "I'll never stop missing you, but I'm so thankful we had her as long as we did," he said. "I'm grateful for the laughter, the wisdom, the kindness, and even the bratty self-indulgent crap my beloved space twin drove me crazy with through the years. So thank you, Carrie, I love you."

Carrie Fisher received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Tuesday, a May the Fourth tribute to a beloved “Star Wars” actor that had a touch of stardust.

May the Fourth be you, Princess Leia. On Thursday, to celebrate the Star Wars-themed holiday, the late Carrie Fisher was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, where she was celebrated by her daughter Billie Lourd and Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill.

It wasn’t until Billie Lourd was in middle school that she finally took a seat in front of the television, unprompted, to watch a little film called Star Wars.
While her mother, the late Carrie Fisher, had been trying for years to get her to check out George Lucas’s sci-fi classic as a way to earn cool points thanks to her starring role as Princess Leia, Lourd, now 30, would typically “roll my eyes and yell, ‘It’s too loud.'” But when boys her age confessed how much they fantasized about Fisher, she decided to press play.
“I went home to investigate who this person was they were talking about. I finally watched the movie I had forever considered too loud, and finally figured out what all the fuss was about with the lady in the TV,” Lourd relayed from the podium on Thursday during Fisher’s posthumous Walk of Fame ceremony.

Mark Hamill is honoring his late “Star Wars” co-star Carrie Fisher on the informal “Star Wars Day” May the 4th, which coincides with Fisher receiving a long-overdue star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Fisher’s turn as Princess Leia in 1977’s “Star Wars: A New Hope” marked only her second film role following “Shampoo.” Fisher was 19 years old, five years younger than Hamill, who recalled meeting her for the first time over dinner in a new interview with Variety.
“I was completely unprepared for the person I met, who just was overwhelming, in the sense that she seemed so much wiser than her years,” Hamill said. “Very funny, very spontaneous, very witty, disarmingly candid.”
Hamill continued, “[She was] the perfect person in the perfect role. She was as far from a damsel in distress as you could get. She was in charge of her own rescue. I think that first impression...

In the last decade, we have “enjoyed” an onslaught of new Star Wars media. As tempting as it is to try to summarize this new era of Star Wars with a blanket critical statement, it’s challenging to actually do so. Some new Star Wars adventures have been excellent, some have been forgettable, and some have been shockingly bad. Of course, few can ever seem to agree on which adventures are which.
However, I think the one thing that unites so many recent Star Wars stories is “nostalgia.” From the moment the first Force Awakens trailer was released, it became clear that our memories of Star Wars were now hard currency. That’s been true of many post-original trilogy releases to some degree, but this era is a bit different.
There was always an understanding that many of us harbored at least some positive feelings toward the Star Wars franchise.

The flames of rebellion can be a slow burn before the flashpoint. That’s a fair description of the reception for “Andor,” Disney+’s latest “Star Wars” series. Early reporting suggested viewers weren’t nearly as interested as they’d been in “The Mandalorian,” “The Book of Boba Fett,” and “Obi-Wan Kenobi.” Three weeks after its Season One finale, “Andor” feels vital in a way that eluded its predecessors.
With IP franchises risking streaming fatigue, it’s special that a “Star Wars” property — and a TV series at that — would be beloved by fans and appear on critics’ year-end Top 10 lists (including that of IndieWire’s Ben Travers). Rian Johnson’s 2017 feature “The Last Jedi” found acclaim (and 91 percent on Rotten Tomatoes), but as the internet liked to tell us, fans were more divided. “Andor” represents a unique moment of lockstep, and word of mouth should carry it to even larger audiences over the holidays.

With the proliferation of Star Wars movies, video games, novels, and television shows, fans have seen all kinds of Force powers deployed by both Sith and Jedi. Did you know Force users could whip up storms? "Rebels" viewers do! How about using the Force as a passive physical shield? Baby Yoda can do it all day long.
The original trilogy left the impression that the Force operated by a certain set of unspoken rules, forging a connection with the universe that anyone could tap into and wield. That changed when the prequel movies introduced the midi-chlorians, making the Force something that's only available through genetic transmission. However, what matters is not who holds these powers, but how they're used. Making an enemy become so dizzy that they vomit might impress your date, but it's not necessarily an effective technique when you're battling a Sith lord, no matter how much Force lightning your lightsaber can absorb.

Six actors, excluding the non-canon takes in Casino Royale (1967), have put on James Bond’s tux and holstered his Walther Ppk. That number will only grow as future film adventures unfold. In fact, the search is already on for the next 007 following Daniel Craig’s departure.
However, as many performers have taken on Bond himself, there are even more who have filled the role of the dastardly villain trying to bring him down. From Christopher Walken’s scenery chewing Max Zorin in A View to a Kill to Mads Mikkelsen’s starkly terrifying Le Chiffre in Casino Royale (2006), there’s no denying the 007 franchise has some of the best baddies in cinema history. But 60 years since his debut, the secret agent has defeated virtually every kind of evil mastermind there is, and it’ll be up to Bond 26 to refresh the formula for a new era of stories. As...

The Pitch: "I'm beginning to think the Force and I have different priorities." This is a simple throwaway line that Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) utters in "Rogue One," but anyone who's spent enough time in the galaxy far, far away, may have felt the same sentiment toward Disney, Lucasfilm, or George Lucas himself, somewhere along the way.

It's been more than 15 years since "That '70s Show" went off the air, but fans of the groovy throwback sitcom have never stopped loving it. From the basement "circle" where the core cast of teens kicked back and smoked weed, to the water tower where Kelso (Ashton Kutcher) repeatedly fell, to the driveway of the Formans' home where Eric (Topher Grace) and Donna (Laura Prepon) shared a decade's worth of awkward and romantic moments, Point Place, Wisconsin is a sitcom town that's never really left fans' hearts.
Luckily, we can go back. The series' original creators are returning to Point Place with "That '90s Show," a sequel series that follows a new generation of teenager nerds and ne'er-do-wells as they get stoned,...

In the event you've missed hanging out down the street, while doing the same old things you did last week, then Netflix has you covered with "That '90s Show," a sequel show to the hit sitcom "That '70s Show," which itself premiered in the '90s. Seeing as "Fuller House" was a hit for the streaming giant, it makes sense that it would want to try its hand at reviving another beloved series. But where "Fuller House" made sure to bring in all of the original cast members in lead roles, "That '90s Show" takes a bit of a different approach.
Topher Grace, Laura Prepon, Mila Kunis, Ashton Kutcher, and Wilmer Valderama are featured in the show, but largely as guest appearances. You won't be seeing Danny Masterson, however, as he's currently on trial for multiple counts of rape. "That '90s Show" will instead feature Callie Haverda as Leia, the daughter of Eric and Donna,...

"Hello, Wisconsin!"
It's time to face the hard truth — we are now as far removed from the 1990s as "That '70s Show" was from the 1970s when it first ran from 1998-2006. I'll give you a moment to pick yourself up off the floor after having to accept the crushing passage of time, but the good news is that Netflix is debuting their 10-episode, live-action sequel, "That '90s Show," early next year. The streamer convinced show creators Bonnie and Terry Turner to follow up with the Forman family after all these years, with almost the entire original cast returning, except for Danny Masterson (who is currently on trial and charged with three counts of rape) and Lisa Robin Kelly who tragically passed away in 2013.
The original series focused on Eric Forman (Topher Grace) and his friends, Donna (Laura Prepon), Kelso (Ashton Kutcher), Jackie (Mila Kunis), and Fez (Wilmer Valderrama) as...

"That '90s Show" hasn't even premiered yet, but the writers reportedly already have a plan for future seasons in the event that the Netflix show gets renewed. "That '70s Show" creators Bonnie and Terry Turner spoke to Variety about the new sequel series they're co-creating alongside Gregg Mettler and Lindsay Turner, and revealed that the entire show is meant to take place during a very specific time in its teen friend group's lives: summer vacation.
"Setting it only during the summer gets the whole school and having-to-go-to-class thing out of the way, which we discovered on the original show, that wasn't where it was interesting," Terry Turner explains. "It's more interesting in the basement." Assuming it continues beyond its first season, the new series will incorporate time jumps between each season, as Eric (Topher Grace) and Donna's (Laura Prepon) daughter Leia (Callie Haverda) visits her grandparents Red (Kurtwood Smith) and...

A distinct smell emanates from Red (Kurtwood Smith) and Kitty’s (Debra Jo Rupp) basement in Netflix‘s That ’90s Show teaser trailer, and it’s not teen spirit. Crank up Alice in Chains and Soundgarden because a new generation of stoners is ready to give their grandparents a migraine and bring the ’90s back like a VH1 Special tailored for Generation X.
Netflix picked up That ’90s Show straight-to-series back in late 2021. Netflix’s “That ’90s Show” has premiered its first teaser trailer, taking audiences back to the beloved basement circle with a new gang of characters and featuring well-recognized motifs like its predecessor’s signature guitar riff-heavy theme track, town’s seedy water tower (with the weed leaf still poorly painted on it) and Red Forman’s (Kurtwood Smith) penchant to say he’s going to put foots in people’s asses. The spinoff to “That ’70s Show” will premiere Jan. 19 with 10 22-minute episodes.
The show’s logline is as follows:
It’s 1995 and Leia Forman (Callie Haverda) is desperate for some adventure in her life or at least a best friend who isn’t her dad. When she arrives in Point Place to visit her grandparents, Red and Kitty (Debra Jo Rupp), Leia finds what she’s looking for right next door when she meets the dynamic and rebellious Gwen.

When Netflix first reached out to “That ‘70s Show” creators Bonnie and Terry Turner about rebooting the show and setting it in the 1990s, their answer was swift: No.
“And then we thought about it some more,” says Terry Turner. “And we said ‘no’ again.”
But the notion had been unlocked. This was during the Covid-19 quarantines, and the Turners had plenty of time stuck indoors to think about it. Meanwhile, Carsey-Werner’s Tom Werner, who successfully brought back “Roseanne”, was also in contact and asked the Turners about it as well.
The Turners thought about it some more, and started considering it — but only if they came up with an idea that worked. “Our first pass what that Eric [Topher Grace] had at some point gone to a rock festival and hooked up with someone, leading to an unknown grandchild,” Terry Turner says. “And at the doorway shows up...

Major spoilers ahead for the "Andor" season finale.
Syril (Kyle Soller) and Dedra (Denise Gough) are the ickiest couple to exist in a Star Wars project, and that includes Luke and Leia after the audience learned that they were related. This particular "Andor" ship is horrifying. Dedra is a cold-blooded bureaucrat in the Isb who cares about nothing but order and putting down the rebels. Syril is an order-obsessed toady who is clearly stalking her as a substitute for his monster of an overbearing mother (Kathryn Hunter). He admires her to the point of devotion. Yes, they both worship order, but the idea of a relationship between them is horrifying.
... So why do we want them to kiss already?
I can practically feel you shuddering over the internet, but you know it's true. In the final episode of "Andor" season 1, Dedra is caught up in the Ferrix riot during Maarva's...

This post contains spoilers for the "Andor" season 1 finale.
"Andor" has been a true breath of fresh air to the "Star Wars" franchise, in terms of tone, storytelling, visuals, and themes. One of the show's biggest contributions is its take on the Rebel Alliance. Before, the Rebels were mostly one-note, a group of chivalrous knights fighting an evil empire with pure goodness. Sure, they were cool, but there was rather little in terms of personal stakes for the non-Skywalkers or Solos in the Rebellion. Now, "Andor" is giving the Rebel Alliance more nuance, with layered inner conflict for many of the characters that turns the decision to fight the Empire into an actual personal struggle rather than a plot convenience.
This brings us to Mon Mothma, the only major "Star Wars" legacy character in "Andor," and one who's gotten a huge makeover. In the original "Star Wars" trilogy, Mon was...

Spoilers for "Andor" and "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" follow.
Droids are an essential part of the "Star Wars" universe. They help sell the idea that this is not just fantasy in space, but an epic space opera. Two of the very first characters we ever see in the franchise are droids — C-3Po and R2-D2 — and they are instrumental to the story, to the war effort, and to the victories of the Rebel Alliance. But while droids have always been present, they haven't really been at the center of the story, instead serving as comic relief or as a faceless army most of the time. We laughed at 3Po's self-righteousness, at his bickering with R2, the way he was disassembled and put back together backward. We laughed at the "Roger Roger" battle droids in the prequels, and at the weird relationship between L3-37 and Lando Calrissian...

This article contains Black Panther: Wakanda Forever spoilers
It’s finally time to dive into Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, as Ryan Coogler has the honor of rounding off Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As with any MCU outing, there’s a slew of Easter eggs that reference everyone from Ant-Man to Ultron, tragic tributes to Chadwick Boseman, and a setup for Thunderbolts. However, for eagle-eyed nerf herders or moof milkers, you might’ve spotted some nods to a certain galaxy far, far away.
During the scene where Shuri (Letitia Wright) and Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne) are kidnapped by Namor’s forces, they are imprisoned by the entrance to Talokan. As Shuri is Wakandan royalty, she is told to dress like a princess and is given some ceremonial garments to wear. It’s here that Riri makes a joke that it’s a trap and that women are always made to dress by their captors.

This Star Wars article contains spoilers for Tales of the Jedi.
Back when he still had full creative control of Star Wars, George Lucas spent a lot of time revisiting and tweaking his finished films, much to the frustration of fans who’d grown up with the theatrical releases. Using (at the time) innovative CGI, the creator retroactively added characters to scenes where they hadn’t appeared before, or completely changed how iconic moments played out (e.g. Han shot first). It began with the Star Wars Special Editions in the late ’90s, which remastered the Original Trilogy for a new generation of fans, and Lucas continued to re-cut these classic movies until right before he sold his studio to Disney. It’s why when the first three Star Wars movies dropped on Disney+, Greedo now said “Maclunkey” to Han right before the scoundrel killed him, further complicating an already controversial scene.

"Star Wars" can't get enough of Ahsoka Tano. Since her debut in "The Clone Wars," we've followed her from apprentice to master, from animation to live-action and back again.
Thanks to the premature (and impermanent) cancellation of "The Clone Wars," though, her story has been patchwork, with pieces filled in and out of chronological order across different installements. We knew that she survived the Clone Wars thanks to "Star Wars: Rebels" in 2015, but we didn't learn how she survived until the belated season 7 of "Clone Wars" in 2020.
"Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi" continues telling Ahsoka's story across different eras. Episode 1, "Life and Death," shows a story of her childhood. 5, "Practice Makes Perfect," is set when she's Anakin Skywalker's apprentice. Then, episode 6, "Resolve," is set between "Clone Wars" and "Rebels."
As we covered, the episode opens with her secretly attending Padmé's funeral (originally seen in "Revenge of the Sith"). After the teaser,...

Have you ever wondered what R2-D2 is saying with the little beeps and boops and whirring that he does? Is he quoting the galaxy far, far away's version of William Shakespeare? Could he be making a great argument that Luke and Leia really shouldn't be kissing each other? Is he waxing philosophical about the steps that led the galactic government to become the Empire? Perhaps he is commenting on the prequels? Nope. As it turns out, he's just telling everyone to f*&@ *^.
This little astromech droid has a long history in the "Star Wars" universe. We first saw him in "Star Wars: Episode IV -- A New Hope" as Princess Leia gave him data tapes with her message to Obi-Wan Kenobi.
