George Lopez may star in sitcoms, but his real life has also had a made-for-tv story - in fact, it was the plot of NBC's "Lopez vs. Lopez." Lopez and his ex-wife, Ann Serrano, whom he was married to from 1993 to 2011, share daughter Mayan Lopez together. Mayan once revealed that she had gone nearly four years without communicating with her father. In November 2022, Mayan spoke to the "Today" show about how her parent's divorce negatively impacted her as a teen because "having it be so public made it a whole other dynamic that makes it so much more difficult."
"You read these headlines and people sometimes forget that there's a family behind those headlines," she explained. "It's been like 11 years since my parents have been divorced . . . I think the longest I didn't speak to my dad was almost three-and-a-half years because it was just painful. I think time was really the biggest healer.

A gaggle of on-the-rocks celebrity couples followed the leak-bad-news-before-a-long-weekend playbook Friday (July), with not one, not two, but four divorce announcements hitting the web late in the day.
The biggest one is Maria Shriver filing for divorce from Arnold Schwarzenegger after 25 years of marriage. TMZ reports that Shriver, who separated from the action star/ex-California governor earlier this year, cites the catch-all "irreconcilable differences" in court papers.
Given the revelations of recent months that Schwarzenegger fathered a child with the housekeeper, it's not a huge surprise. Shriver is asking for spousal support, joint custody of their two teenage sons and attorneys' fees. The couple didn't sign a pre-nuptial agreement, so their assets will be split equally.
Things were busy in the L.A. Superior Court Friday, as three other celeb couples got the final word on the end of their marriages. Per TMZ:

In perhaps the most amicable split Hollywood has ever seen, George Lopez and Ann Lopez have mutually agreed to end their 17-year marriage. The couple have a 15-year-old daughter, Mayan, and claim in their statement that their joint priorities are to their daughter and to the Lopez Foundation, which they will continue to manage together. Ann gave George one of her kidneys in 2005, and of course the joke of the day is about whether or not she’ll be asking for that back in the divorce settlement. I think that’s the only way people can inject drama into this situation, as otherwise this looks like a pretty boring and mature decision on the part of the couple. They got married, they gave it their best shot, it didn’t work out… and now they’re facing their marriage issues like adults, unlike some other couples we could mention (I won’t name names,...

Sandra Bullock's longtime friend, George Lopez, told Access Hollywood that he's overjoyed with the actress' adoption news and excited to be a part her three-and-half-month old son's life.
"I'm happy to be an uncle," George told Access at the Third Annual George Lopez Celebrity Golf Classic 2010 in Toluca Lake, Calif., on Monday.
"We're very excited and she's happy and we're happy that she's happy," George, who was accompanied by wife Ann Lopez, continued. "And we love her."

New Line Cinema is about to develop what I fear will be a massive failure: a Speedy Gonzales movie. Yes, that's right; the studio has indeed decided it would be an awesome idea to create a live-action/CGI film for the fast mouse nobody can stop.
I know this is bad news, but it gets worse: Alec Sokolow and Joel Cohen, the folks behind the disastrous misery "Garfield," will write the script. Also, George Lopez will most likely end up voicing the character. He recently voiced a stupid Chihuahua.
Heat Vision, which reported the news, has this quote from producer Ann Lopez: "We wanted to make sure that it was not the Speedy of the 1950s -- the racist Speedy. Speedy's going to be a misunderstood boy who comes from a family that works in a very meticulous setting..."
Whatever Speedy will end up doing, I don't care. How about you?...

Latin comedian George Lopez is getting animated for a controversial cartoon movie role, as racially divisive Looney Tunes character Speedy Gonzales. Warner Brothers cartoonists debuted "The fastest mouse in all Mexico" in the 1950s as a nemesis of "Sylvester the Cat", but courted criticism for Gonzales' stereotypically racist depictions.
The "Valentine's Day" actor will lend his voice to the mouse in the forthcoming "Speedy Gonzales" film but he's hoping to revamp the character to make him politically correct. The comedian's wife, Ann Lopez, who will serve as producer, says, "We wanted to make sure that it was not the Speedy of the 1950s - the racist Speedy."
"Speedy's going to be a misunderstood boy who comes from a family that works in a very meticulous setting, and he's a little too fast for what they do. He makes a mess of that. So he has to go out in the...

Speedy Gonzales: The Movie is in the planning stages. It’ll be a hybrid of live action and CGI. That’s bad, but it’s not all. Head for the hills, hide the children, and brace yourself: George Lopez, the unfunniest man in Hollywood, will be providing Senor Speedy’s voice, according to The Hollywood Reporter. But wait -- it gets even worse: the character has often courted criticism that the ethnic characterizations of him and his compatriots (especially lazy cousin Slowpoke Rodriguez) are stereotypically racist and severely outdated. Aware of this, New Line and the producers plan to update the brand with a modernized sensibility (it takes place in present day) under what Ann Lopez calls George's "Latino seal of approval." (No need to throw fuel on the fire that serves as an immigration debate in this country.) "We wanted to make sure that it was not the...
