The good folks over at Wu-Jing.org have found the first (a bit bland and generic) poster and a detailed plot description from the upcoming wuxia film Rain of Swords in The Pugilistic World (Jianyu Jianghu).

Rain of Swords is currently under production by John Woo and Terence Chang with Su Chao Bin directing. It stars Michelle Yeoh, Jung Woo Sung, Barbie Hsu, Paw Hee Ching, Wang Xue Qi and Shawn Yue, and will be released in Summer 2010.

[Reviews] I Come with The Rain

26 November 2009 7:33 AM, PST | Twitch | See recent Twitch news »

Not that I would ever dare to compare Seneca with Park Chan-Wook, but one of the themes which transpired from his latest, sublime 박쥐 (Thirst) is that knowing your sins is the first step on the path which leads to salvation, no matter in whichever shades of gray or shadows that moment will come. They might have found acceptance beyond their own borders thanks to nearly unrivaled cinematic flair, but the morality plays which have been brewing at the core of Park's last five films, all the more pungent with every new stroke, are just as important in defining his body of work as his gusto for sumptuous art direction and visual mastery. It's regrettable, then, to see them often overlooked at the altar of adrenaline-filled tour de force sequences which drench such cinematic magic. It would be like getting served the finest pork ribs in the world, and going straight for the bones, »

Birthday Suits: Hamlets & Hydes

Today's Cinematic Birthdays 11/131312 Edward III (of Windsor), not the gay one who gets more cinematic treatment (including Derek Jarman's fascinating take), but his son. This is the one Shakespeare wrote a play about and the one who Mel Gibson implied to be the bastard son of Braveheart William Wallace, thereby giving the finger to history unless Wallace's sperm could survive years past his death. That Gibson's sperm could magically endure beyond the grave is far more likely. He already has eight children.1833 Edwin Thomas Booth, famous influential thespian and the 19th century's most prominent Hamlet. He's been portrayed onscreen and stage by famous thespians like Richard Burton and Frank Langella, usually in stories connected to his estranged brother's assassination of Abraham Lincoln. Will someone play him in the Spielberg helmed Lincoln film?

Just a quick update with a detailed plotline for Curse of the Deserted. “Shaolin Girl” star Kitty Zhang takes the lead along side Shawn Yue in this, the latest frightener project by Veteran Hk horror (‘Inner Senses,’ ‘Koma’) director Chi-Leung Law. And the story goes something like this…..In his new book “The Deserted Village”, young writer Guo (Shawn Yue) wrote about the titular curse…. “It began 500 years ago in the Ming Dynasty, when one of the villagers died of terminal illness. The widow Yanzi vowed to stay with her husband forever. When the man suddenly returned to life, his horrified neighbours believed him to be a monster. Threesome for the Ladies: Japanese Teaser Trailer for I Come with the Rain

10 May 2009 9:17 AM, PDT | Affenheimtheater | See recent Affenheimtheater news »

I thought that I should cover something for the ladies for a change after most of my entries are obviously pointed towards the male idea of eye candy. Starring Josh Hartnett, Takuya Kimura and Lee Byung-Hun, Anh Hung Tran’s Thriller I Come with the Rain might be something for you girls (and boy) if you can stand the pretty gruesome scenes featured in the atmospheric Japanese teaser trailer below.

Harnett plays the Los Angeles ex-cop Kline who works as a private eye and travels to the Philippines to find Shitao (Smap’s Takuya Kimura), the missing son of a Chinese billionaire. Together with his former colleague Meng Zi (Shawn Yue) Kline follows a lead to Hong Kong’s local gangster Su Dongpo (Lee Byung-Hun) and his drug addicted girlfriend Lili (Tran Nu Yên-Khê). Caught in the crossfire between the mafia and the police, Kline is haunted by memories of »

Lee Byung Hun!  Takuya Kimura!  Josh Harnett!  Shawn Yue! I Come With The Rain Trailer Arrives!

9 May 2009 9:45 PM, PDT | Twitch | See recent Twitch news »

Something strange is happening with Tran Ahn Hung’s I Come With The Rain.  With its sterling international cast, compelling premise and a rumored original score by Radiohead, I Come With The Rain has been one of the most hotly anticipated titles on the international circuit for well over a year now.  Common thinking was that the film was targeting Cannes for its big launch but - this being a ludicrously busy year with stacks of high profile films from major directors - it didn’t make the cut for the competition and, bizarrely, isn’t screening in the market, either, despite being complete.  Normally this would mean that producers were targeting the one-two punch of Venice / Toronto but with I Come With The Rain scheduled for a June theatrical release in Japan it will no longer qualify for Venice, either, which means there’s no reason to hold back from the market. »

Kitty heads for horror in Curse Of The Deserted

19 March 2009 5:55 AM, PDT | 24framespersecond.net | See recent 24FramesPerSecond news »

Hanging up her Lacrosse kit from her performance in the hit martial action pic “Shaolin Girl,” Kitty Zhang Yuqi heads for darker climes in the new horror; Curse of the Deserted. Adding to the films heavy hitting teen idol cast Shawn Yue is also set to star, and better yet, veteran Hk horror director Chi-Leung Law (Inner senses, Koma) will handle proceedings behind the camera. So far it all sounds like a recipe for success. Production has only just begun, but the movie is tipped for release this year. Synopsis: An ancient love curse drew four students to visit a haunted village. When the trip turns horribly wrong, it's up to a young writer and his ex-girlfriend to face the supernatural behind the curse. »
