What if The X-Files or Fringe had a grand unified theory that attributed all of the mysterious phenomena its government operatives investigated to one cause? Such is the question posed by Debris, J. H. Wyman’s latest sci-fi offering premiering on NBC March 1. The series’ title refers to pieces of wreckage from an alien spacecraft that induce unexplained phenomena wherever they land, including the conveyance of powers coveted by dark operatives and hoarded by government agencies. It’s a compelling premise, but it looks like it may take some time to gel based on a preview of the pilot.
That cautious optimism doesn’t spring from the suspension of disbelief involved in accepting the idea that chunks of a spaceship could have almost supernatural effects, no two exactly the same; the prospect of episodic “piece of the week” stories in Debris is actually a welcome one. The tension that is...

The opening scene of The Vast of Night, a new science fiction film now streaming on Amazon Prime, wears its influences on its sleeve. While it doesn’t mention The Twilight Zone by name, the film begins with a static-bedeviled television being watched in the middle of the day, like the memory of a late ‘50s childhood half-forgotten. The story you’re about to see, explains a disembodied voice, is a trip into “Paradox Theatre.” This show-within-a-movie might be fictional, but the moment it represents in science fiction and American culture is not.
Set in the twilight of the Eisenhower years, The Vast of Night is the debut film from director Andrew Patterson, which is all the more impressive since it so inhabits its time and place in American life with authentic nostalgia. At the tail end of what Don McLean romanticized in “American Pie,...

The following contains spoilers for Space Force episode 10.
Your average sitcom doesn’t need to have a lesson at the end of each episode or season to be effective. Space Force, as created by sitcom master Greg Daniels, decides to go for one anyway. And that lesson can best be summed up as “an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind…or at least stranded on the moon with no shelter or life support.”
Yes, Space Force does make it to the moon in the end. Here in the real world, it’s unknown how long the United States’ new space force branch will take to get to the moon (or if that is even a short term goal). On Space Force, the branch led by Mark Naird (Steve Carell) only needs a year and some change. By episode nine, Commander Angela Ali (Tawny Newsome) and her high...

So you’re in quarantine, and you’ve got kids playing too much Roblox while the school system scrambles to put digital learning in place. Even for families with experience educating at home, it can be a daunting task coming up with learning experiences to fill a student’s day, especially with most public libraries closed during the Covid-19 crisis. While television is not the cure-all for the problem, a nice educational program, perhaps one that includes instructional materials, could be just the thing to fill in the instructional gaps and give flustered parents a little break from playing teacher.
We’ve listed here our favorite educational television program in each of the main subject areas: math, science, language arts, and social studies. Most of these are available via PBS and are often presented along with materials for follow-up lessons. There’s obviously a lot more out there for the...

A sleepy ranch In Utah’s Uinta Basin has been the focus of decades of secretive scientific paranormal research and now it’s the focus of the History Channel reality series The Secret of Skinwalker Ranch. According to History, this is the first time TV cameras have been allowed on the ranch. The show’s team of scientists and experts, equipped with the “latest in cutting edge technology,” made shocking discoveries that one scientist describes as “phenomena that cannot be explained by human technology.”
“I don’t like the word paranormal,” explains Astrophysicist Dr. Travis Taylor on a conference call with reporters, including Den of Geek. “I don’t like it at all because it suggests that something we see in the universe, and it exist within the universe, that it’s not supposed to be in the universe. And what I saw was within our universe. So to me,...

The cast of History's Project Blue Book shared their thoughts on UFOs and recent UFO news, including the proposed raid on Area 51.
History's Project Blue Book is getting a second season, and we finally got a glimpse into what it might cover at a panel during the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con. However, the show is about UFOs, and with all of the UFO news in the headlines, the cast's thoughts on the UFO topic itself made for some great conversation. The Project Blue Book cast even had some praise for their fellow History UFO series, Unidentified: Inside America's UFO Investigation.
The panel included Aidan Gillen (Dr. J. Allen Hyenk), Michael Malarkey(Captain Quinn), Laura Mennell (Mimi Hynek), Neal McDonough and Sean Jablonski (Showrunner/Executive Producer/Writer). I was able to ask the panel to share their thoughts on UFOs and if the show affected their views. Gillen started...

The inspiration for the General Harding character, Roswell, and Area 51 were topics discussed at the Sdcc Project Blue Book Panel.
At San Diego Comic-Con 2019, Project Blue Book held a panel to tease information about the second season of the series. The panel included Aidan Gillen (Dr. J. Allen Hyenk), Michael Malarkey (Captain Quinn), Laura Mennell (Mimi Hynek), Neal McDonough and Sean Jablonski (Showrunner/Executive Producer/Writer).
Starting off the discussion were O'Leary and Jablonski who say they are looking to have more fun in the second season. This comment likely translates to exploring more fictional storylines. The duo explained they do try to make the show fact and science-based, but feels it also has to be fun.
Some UFO enthusiasts have been frustrated at how much fiction the show added to the real-life story of Dr. J. Allen Hyenk. Hynek was a consultant for the U.S, Air Force...

History’s new UFO series features the guy who ran the Pentagon’s UFO program, but why does it also feature rockstar Tom DeLonge?
On May 31, 2019, History will premiere Unidentified: Inside America’s UFO Investigation, a new series that focuses on the ongoing UFO investigations of Luis Elizondo, the former head of the Pentagon’s UFO project, and the organization he now works for, To the Stars Academy (Ttsa). The program also includes rockstar Tom DeLonge, best known for being the front man of Blink-182. It may seem odd to see the rocker among the former government officials conducting serious investigations into the UFO phenomenon. Without DeLonge, however, the world may have never known about the Pentagon’s secret UFO project.
Back in 2017, everyone thought Tom DeLonge was crazy...some still do. For years, his obsession with UFOs made headlines. Rarely were those headlines flattering. In 2015, DeLonge...

The History channel recently announced a limited non-fiction UFO investigation series featuring officials who have held positions at the highest level of government, including a man who before recently retiring ran an ongoing secretive UFO project at the Pentagon. The show is called Unidentified: Inside America’s UFO Investigation, and is set to premiere in May.

History knows the truth is still out there, orders the Aidan Gillen-starring Project Blue Book Season 2.
The public's endless fascination for aliens and UFOs wins again! History and A+E Studios announced the renewal of Project Blue Book for Season 2.
Project Blue Book is an in-house A+ Studios production for History, which likely made the announcement of Project Blue Book Season 2 much easier. Of course, it doesn't hurt that people seem to like the sci-fi (though emphasis on the "sci") drama series. History reports that Project Blue Book is the number one new cable show of the 2018-19 TV season, pulling in 3.4 million viewers in the Live+3 Nielsen metric. Eli Lehrer, Executive Vice President and Head of Programming and History, said in a prepared statement:

The man whose claims of working on alien technology near Area 51 made the base famous is the subject of a new documentary.
In 1989, an anonymous witness talked to Klas Las Vegas about his alleged work engineering alien spacecraft at a secret underground location just south of Area 51. The story about the witness’ claims went global and made Area 51 famous, even though at the time the existence of Area 51 was being denied by the U.S Government. The anonymous witness was later identified as Bob Lazar. Now for the first time since 1989, Lazar will speak at length about his alleged alien insight in a documentary titled Bob Lazar: Area 51 and Flying Saucers. The documentary releases on December 3, 2019, and actor Mickey Rourke narrates the film.
When asked if he believed in UFOs, Rourke told Den of Geek, “I don’t know. I would like to.”
He continued: “When I was...

Alfred Worden, who spent over three days alone in a command module circling the moon, served as a technical consultant for First Man.
Accuracy was essential to the filmmakers of First Man, and one of the reasons the film has been met with so much critical acclaim. To create the realism seen in the spaceflight portions of the film, the moviemakers relied on experts, such as former astronaut Alfred Worden who served as a technical consultant. Worden was the command module pilot for Apollo 15, and his work on the mission garnered him two Guinness World Records, including one for being “the most isolated that any human has been.”
Worden was not at work when the famous Apollo 11 mission was underway. He was in California preparing for a flight of his own. However, this time, he was not flying to space.

Society is on the cusp of space tourism. What will a family vacation look like outside of Earth?
For years we have been told a new space tourism industry is just on the horizon. However, except for a handful of millionaires, taking a vacation in space has not been possible. We take a look at how close we are to commercial space flights, what companies will take us there, and what technologies they will be using.
Space Adventures
Technically, space tourism began in April 2001 when millionaire engineer Dennis Tito made a trip to the International Space Station (Iss). A company named Space Adventures brokered the deal. Tito received cosmonaut training at the famous Star City training center in Russia’s Moscow Oblast and was flown aboard a Soyuz rocket to the Iss where he stayed for nearly eight days. While there he conducted research for his company.
