If there’s one thing married couple Floyd Rance and Stephanie Tavares-Rance know how to do, it’s keep a secret. Last year, on the eve of the Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival, its founders were tight-lipped about their 20th anniversary opening-night presenters. “I just told my mother,” says Tavares-Rance of the fact that Barack and Michelle Obama were on hand to screen their Higher Ground and Netflix documentary Descendant.
This year, the Rances face the unexpected of another kind, with the SAG-AFTRA strike beginning weeks before the Aug. 4-12 fest, which is preventing actors from promoting their projects. Says Tavares-Rance, with equanimity: “Celebrity is awesome — people love to see their favorite actor or actress on the stage, but it really is about these filmmakers of color, specifically African American filmmakers, that we want to highlight.”

Bob Lee Swagger remains one of the most badass television characters ever.
The USA Network series, Shooter, was one of the finest, coming at a time when the cable network ran supreme with endless content for everyone's viewing.
With slick action sequences, subterfuge, and adrenaline-pumping thrills, the series, more often than not, was a must-see summer show for three seasons until its unfortunate cancellation.
TV Fanatic followed along with the journey from beginning to end with full coverage in our Shooter Reviews. It is still a perfectly binge-able series that you can stream on Netflix, at least until June 21, when Netflix loses the rights for it.
It bolstered an impressive cast led by none other than Ryan Phillippe. But where is the cast now? Let's find out!
Jaina Lee Ortiz - Angela Tio
Ortiz had a small arc during Shooter Season 2, guest-starring as Angela Tio, a sergeant Bob Lee served with during the Marines.

Jonathan Majors, whose star is on the rise with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania coming out along with Creed III, shows his chops as the leading man in this historical air combat film that is based on a true story. Devotion is set to be available for purchase with never-before-seen bonus content on Digital in the U.S. and Canada as well as streaming on Paramount+ this January 8.

Exclusive: Amazon Studios is developing a coming-of-age Rotc drama from writers Jalysa Conway (9-1-1: Lone Star) and Rebecca Murga (Swagger) — both military veterans — with Spike Lee set to direct and executive produce.
Written by Conway and Murga, The Untitled Rotc Project is set in the world of a rigorous Rotc military program at a major university, where students from all different walks of life push themselves to limits they never thought possible.
Conway and Murga executive produce with Lee, Steven Jackson as well as Trevor Engelson of Underground.
The project draws from Conway and Murga’s personal experiences. Both of them went through Rotc to help pay for college before embarking on active military duty. The two previously worked together in the Rideback TV Incubator, a residency program launched by Dan Lin’s Rideback and MRC where writers from diverse backgrounds get the opportunity to create their own shows.

Apple TV+ has renewed Bad Sisters, the dark comedy murder-mystery series from Sharon Horgan, for a second season.

“If you’d have told me three years ago that I’d be making a series about five murderous sisters chasing a man around Ireland trying to kill him, I’d have said, ‘Yeah, that sounds about right,’” said Horgan. “The response to our show had been beyond what we could have hoped for. It gave us the opportunity to shine a light on stories that don’t always get such a global platform. I look forward to getting chilly in the Irish Sea one more time.
