Generative artificial intelligence is killing jobs in Hollywood, with little relief on the horizon.
A study surveying 300 leaders across the entertainment industry reports that three-fourths of respondents indicated that AI tools supported the elimination, reduction or consolidation of jobs at their companies. Over the next three years, it estimates that nearly 204,000 positions will be adversely affected.
At the forefront of the displacement: sound engineers, voice actors, concept artists and employees in entry-level positions, according to the study. Visual effects and other postproduction work stands particularly vulnerable.
The Concept Art Assn. and the Animation Guild commissioned the report, which was conducted from Nov. 17 to Dec. 22 by consulting firm Cvl Economics, amid concerns from members over the impact of AI on their work. Among the issues is that concept artists are increasingly being asked to “clean up” AI-generated works by studios, lowering their billed hours and the pool of available jobs, says Nicole Hendrix,...

While many at the Cfda Fashion Awards decided to dress up in black, Lola Tung went with a nude look.
The Summer I Turned Pretty actress didn’t actually go in the nude, but her Balmain dress definitely gave the illusion of it. Tung wore a crystal see-through dress with nude coverings underneath and to complete the full look, she wore nude heels and crystal dangling earrings.
Though the dress looks complicated to wear, Tung told Access Hollywood that “it was pretty easy to get into,” as it had a zipper running down the back of it.
“It’s Balmain, and I’m just thrilled to be in it and [look] like a little chandelier essentially,” she said.

Taiwanese screenwriter and director Su Chao Bin wrote this Ming Dynasty wuxia drama primarily for Michelle Yeoh to star in. According to Su and producer Terence Chang, the approach was to do a story in the style of Gu Long's wuxia, populated with multiple characters plus a touch of suspense and mystery. Producer John Woo's input is mainly as an adviser, but he did direct one action scene which featured his daughter and thereby also credited as co-director. Su won the Best Director award for his effort at the 17th Hong Kong Film Critics Society Awards.

We've been obsessed with "The Summer I Turned Pretty" ever since we devoured the first season of the teen drama adapted from Jenny Han's cult-favorite YA book series in 2022. The Lola Tung-led show was a massive hit and put its young stars like Tung, Christopher Briney, Gavin Casalegno, and more on the map.
"The Summer I Turned Pretty" is a multigenerational drama that focuses on the protagonist, Isabel "Belly" Conklin's, summer at the fictitious Cousins Beach, which serves as a jumping-off point for the teenager to not only explore the wondrous, confusing, and heart-stopping phases of young love, but also to find herself.
Season one sees Belly become entangled in a love triangle as her lifelong crush, Conrad (Briney), begins to reciprocate her feelings just as his younger brother, Jeremiah (Casalegno), also begins to pursue her romantically. Belly chooses Conrad at the end of the season, but the cancer diagnosis of his mother,...

The dilemma of Team Conrad (Christopher Briney) or Team Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) is one that fans of The Summer I Turned Pretty know all too well. As the love triangle in the series thickens, viewers are eager to know which side Lola Tung, who portrays the conflicted Isabel “Belly” Conklin, is on.
But if you expect a straightforward answer from Tung, you might be surprised. Not only has the actor made her stance clear, but her consistency in championing her character, Belly, offers a nuanced take on the show’s tangled relationships.
Lola Tung isn’t necessarily Team Conrad or Team Jeremiah
For Tung, it’s a question as old as the love triangle trope: Conrad or Jeremiah? The sibling rivalry in The Summer I Turned Pretty adds an irresistible layer of drama to the story. But when confronted about her character’s romantic affiliations, Tung provided her usual response.

Just as music is a big part of The Summer I Turned Pretty, the Amazon Prime Video original series’ star, Lola Tung, used it to get into character. What the actor listened to for a fast way to get into Isabel “Belly” Conklin’s “headspace” and what she looked for in songs.

Kim Petras’s “You Can’t Do Better” might’ve blared through the speakers as Belly sang along on the way to Cousins with her brother Steven (Sean Kaufman), and mother Laurel (Jackie Chung) in the Tsitp premiere episode. However, the track may not have made the cut for season 2 based on Tung’s description of her own Belly playlist that helped her get into character.
“It was a lot of slightly more emotional songs — songs that felt nostalgic,” she told The New York Times.

Watch out! This post contains spoilers for the "The Summer I Turned Pretty" Amazon Prime Video series and the book "It's Not Summer Without You" by Jenny Han.
"The Summer I Turned Pretty" season two ended with a bang on Aug. 18. While the season's main storylines stick to the book, there are still some major changes. And while changes to a book are always met with mixed feelings, one fans have welcomed with open arms is the show's added soundtrack.
Readers often imagine which songs would accompany iconic scenes if their favorite book were adapted into a TV series. Still, it's a whole different thing when you actually get to see Belly and Jeremiah kiss on screen to the beautiful accompaniment of Beyoncé's "Xo" playing in the background. Some of the most pivotal scenes of the season are accompanied by Taylor Swift songs, and Lola Tung, who plays Belly in the series,...

“The Summer I Turned Pretty” actress Lola Tung supports the full circle ending of Season 2 for her character Isabel “Belly” Conklin.
Belly has navigated an emotional rollercoaster — from grieving Susannah and feeling isolated from the boys to confronting Conrad after two fallouts with him and then kissing Jeremiah — to reach the final scene of Season 2. Her now boyfriend, Jeremiah, supports her from the bleachers as she makes her case to her high school volleyball coach to let her back on the team. Once her coach accepts, Belly gets fired up playing the sport she loves surrounded by some of her biggest cheerleaders — including her best friend Taylor (Rain Spencer) in addition to Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno).
“It’s really cool because the first time we see Belly in the present, besides the beginning flashback in episode one, she’s by herself. She’s at school in her own world. And the last time we see her,...

When it came time to film a key musical scene in “The Summer I Turned Pretty” Season 2, star Chris Briney found relief in knowing that his character Conrad Fisher didn’t have to be a good singer, but the actor isn’t sure he ever wants to watch the scene himself.
In the third episode of Season 2, Belly (Lola Tung) flashes back to Susannah Fisher’s (Rachel Blanchard) funeral, specifically to the part where Conrad plays a song on the guitar that his mother always asked him to play.

Taylor Swift has dropped “Back to December (Taylor’s Version) in the Season 2 trailer for “The Summer I Turned Pretty.”
“Last summer felt like a dream,” Lola Tung’s voice says over shots of Isabel “Belly” Conklin (Tung) and Conrad Fisher (Chris Briney) on the beach followed by her talking with Jeremiah Fisher (Gavin Casalegno). “It was unlike any other summer.”
Season 1 of the Prime Video series, adapted from Jenny Han’s best-selling book trilogy, watched Belly visit Cousins Beach once more, but she has glowed up quite a bit in the time she spent away. Both Fisher brothers noticed, and a love triangle between the three of them ensued. Things got even more complicated when the boys discovered their mother Susannah’s cancer had relapsed. After a chaotic and dramatic debutante ball, she promised her sons that she would do a trial for treatment.

I think this book was created as a single work; I think it’s something that should be called a graphic novel rather than a collection of comics. That’s not a big deal – it’s purely taxonomy – but I’ll start there.
Debbie Tung is a British cartoonist and illustrator, working professionally for maybe a decade now. From what I’ve seen, her work is often personal in that it’s about her as a person, deeply informed by who she is and where she is in life, but she’s not an inherently autobiographical cartoonist. Or maybe that’s a false dichotomy, but she seems to come from a different place than the alt-comics confessional style – all her work is specific, but most of it is outward-facing, as if she’s sharing aspects of her self that she thinks a lot of the audience shares.

Considering the people involved in the movie, with Johnnie To directing, Anita Mui, Michelle Yeoh and Maggie Cheung starring as the titular trio, and Anthony Wong as one of the key villains, and with a script that is filled with martial arts action plus a plethora of Catiii elements, one would expect that “The Heroic Trio” would be the quintessential Hk action film. However, a number of faults in the script and a couple of other issues prevent it from becoming so, although the entertainment it offers, at least for the most part, is undeniable.
“The Heroic Trio“ is screening at San Diego Asian Film Festival
The aforementioned trio comprises of Tung (aka Wonder Woman), who is married to a policeman, Chat (Thief Catcher) a mercenary and head hunter, and Ching (Invisible Woman). As the story begins, an enigmatic persona mentioned only as Evil Master is blackmailing the Invisible Woman...

Featuring a number of iconic Hong Kong actors, including protagonist Michelle Yeoh, Sammo Hung, Michael Lam and Richard Ng, “The Stunt Woman” has a very interesting premise, of following the life of a female stunt woman, in an semi-biographical path considering that Yeoh also worked in that capacity, but in the end, fails as a whole. That Yeoh was injured seriously during a stunt involving jumping off a bridge probably was one of the reasons for this, since the production had to be rushed afterwards, but the main issue here seems to be the writing and the direction. Let us take things from the beginning though.

After 1997, Hong Kong Cinema was in a state of flux. Many of the top tier talent had moved to America and the future looked bleak. Yet where there is a gap, there is opportunity and “Beast Cops” exploded into the cinemas in 1998, breathing new life into a genre that was struggling. Providing Michael Wong with the role of his career, it also highlighted the talent of Anthony Wong, elevating him from Category III villainy to true leading man status. Tt’s time to look back and revisit one of the final great films of the 1990s.

Prime Video’s “The Summer I Turned Pretty” is set to make a splash, and maybe even some waves, with author Jenny Han having adapted the first book of her beloved trilogy into a new TV series — which has already been renewed for a second season. And while the book was first published in 2009, Han delighted in revisiting — and changing — her original story.
“It’s such a delight to be able to revisit the story that I told so long ago and think, ‘Okay, what would I do differently? What would I do the same? How different does it feel to tell the story in 2022?’” Han said in a recent interview with TheWrap.

Another Jenny Han adaptation has officially graced the small screen. “The Summer I Turned Pretty” began streaming Friday on Amazon Prime Video. It tells the story of a love triangle between three teenagers who have known each other practically their entire lives.
Belly (Lola Tung) has been in love with Conrad (Christopher Briney) for as long as she can remember. But this year, returning to Cousins Beach feels different, especially when she starts to realize she might have feelings for his brother Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno). While the summer love radiating from the series is true to the first book, there are several additions to the series to shake things — particularly the Debutante Ball.

In our Q&a series Last Call, we get down to the bottom of every last thing with some of our favorite celebs - from the last time they were starstruck to the last song they listened to. This week, Lola Tung takes our call.
Lola Tung wants to set things straight - she's not Team Jeremiah, Conrad, or Cam. "I'm Team Belly," she tells Popsugar. "I think that is the only right answer. But I very much believe that she should follow her heart, and I believe in her going on her own journey and discovering that by herself."
Tung stars as Isabella "Belly" Conklin in "The Summer I Turned Pretty," the new series from Prime Video. Season one features seven episodes and covers book one of Jenny Han's Summer book trilogy. Another of Han's book series also inspired Netflix's hit "To All The Boys I Loved Before" film series.

As a coming-of-age story, Amazon’s The Summer I Turned Pretty is a cut above. Tenderly written and endearingly acted, it’s sensitive to the subtle but irreversible shifts in self-perception that come with late adolescence — and at the same time clear-eyed enough to understand that teenagers, up to and including its own blushing heroine, sure can act like clueless jerks while they’re figuring out how to wield their newfound powers.
It’s a bit of a bummer, then, that it’s wrapped up in a love story that’s not nearly so convincing, rooted in connections that aren’t so much felt as explained thoroughly in voiceover. While not clumsy enough to sink The Summer I Turned Pretty entirely, they do keep the series from soaring as high as it otherwise might.
