- The best-selling Scottish band of the 1980s, they had five number one albums in the UK and sold 30 million records worldwide according to the Guinness Book of British Hit Singles and Albums in 2005.
- The band was initially reluctant to record the song "Don't You (Forget About Me)" for the film The Breakfast Club (1985), as they felt that they should record their own material (the song was written by Keith Forsey). They also believed that it was just a throwaway song for a forgettable film. They recorded the song within three hours and later forgot about it, as they continued to work on their next album "Once Upon A Time". After the film's release, the band discovered that the song reached #1 in the US charts. Some of the band members later agreed that they recorded something that had commercial potential.
