Peter Stringfellow, who booked the Beatles, Queen, Jimi Hendrix and other rock legends in a collection of clubs around the world, has died. The nightclub mogul was 77 and passed away today from cancer.
His passing sparked an outpouring from the celebrities, rock legends and simply fans who attended his clubs in various parts of the world. He opened his first club in London’s Covent Garden in 1980, and Stringfellows outposts in Paris, Miami, Beverly Hills and New York followed.
Stringfellow was known for several things: his clubs, of course, but also his celebrity associations and the topless waitresses that served guests at his clubs.
Boy George noted online that Stringfellow introduced him and his mother to Princess Diana. Rod Stewart thanked him “for the good times.”
Born in Sheffield, England in 1940, Stringfellow began running clubs in the 1960s before opening his own chain.
Survivors include his wife, Bella, and four children.

Stephen Hawking is gone, but he’s not forgotten. And neither is that Steve Harking fellow. Peter Stringfellow, owner of London strip club Stringfellows, sought to pay tribute to Hawking, who died Wednesday morning at age 76, sharing a photo of himself with Hawking at his venue. Unfortunately, the honor was tainted by a little bit of sloppiness on Stringfellow’s part. Get ready to say goodbye to Peter Stringfellow's trademark silver locks.
The 75-year-old nightclub owner was given a makeover on ITV's Loose Women earlier, before agreeing to part with his hair live on air for a good cause.
Peter Stringfellow at 74: 'Being a father at my age is fantastic'
Makeover panelist Gloria Hunniford said to him on today's show (October 29): "There's one thing I've got to bring up with you Peter, the hair is still really quite long... would you agree at any time to get your hair chopped?"
Stringfellow replied: "Absolutely not."
Presenter Andrea McLean then asked him: "How about if we asked you to cut it of live on air?"
After being egged on by the audience, Stringfellow said: "My wife loves it shorter, so okay, I'll do it for charity."

Well, that was totally roarsome. It was Bread Week in the Great British Bake Off tent and the showstopper round - in which the 10 remaining hopefuls had five hours to whip up a 3D bread sculpture - produced some spectacular bakes. There was the Brighton Royal Pavilion, a bicycle, a frock, a snake, a bunch of flowers and a Tracey Emin-esque unmade bed.
But best by far was the lion made out of bread. Baked by Welsh prison governor Paul Jagger - himself something of a lookalike for judge Paul Hollywood - the 'King Of The Jungle' creation left Hollywood totally gobsmacked.
"That's one of the best things I've seen on bread, ever," murmured the notoriously hard-to-please judge. "It's exceptional."

It's a game that Ant and Dec get to play every year - Guess the I'm a Celebrity lineup.
The hosts of ITV's jungle reality show don't get the final say on who the producers pick for the bushtucker ordeal, but that doesn't stop them having plenty of suggestions.
Digital Spy caught up with the Geordie duo this week as they prepare for their Saturday Night Takeaway arena tour and found out who they want to see flying out to Australia later this year.
The three names they picked were, erm, a little unusual.
"It's always the same my list. Mr T, Tim Westwood and Peter Stringfellow," said Ant, deadly seriously.
You might think that sounds like an odd bunch, but he defends their selection.
"Try telling me, if that was the final three, you wouldn't be happy with that. If they were the final three, you'd know it would have been a vintage year.

Sex sells. Or, as Peter Stringfellow may or may not have once said, “If you build it, they will come.” Sex permeates every aspect of our daily lives, from advertisements to TV shows to book covers to – if we’re lucky – actual rufty. And ever since the early days, when people were cowering at the great phallic steam train pulling into a station and jutting out of the screen right into their faces (don’t even get me started on the 3D version), sex has been a huge part of cinema too. In fact, we’ve often celebrated the bravest and boldest of sex on the silver screen. Which was difficult, because there’s a lot out there to choose from, as Wikipedia puts it in its own inimitably cold, robotic way: “Many actors and actresses have exposed at least parts of their bodies or dressed and...

Not since Arg waddled around without any trousers on on Towie: Live has there been a more ugly and pointless hour of television than Channel 5's The Big Benefits Row.
Spongers and scroungers - two words we heard a lot during last night's hour of squawking and drivel - could easily have been applied to the Channel 5 execs who commissioned this nonsense.
Feeding off the laugh-and-point-and-feel-better-about-yourself success of Channel 4's Benefits Street, Channel 5 decided to beat its broadcasting rival to the punch and host a live debate on the subject. A subject which host Matthew Wright claimed had brought the nation to "boiling point".
What followed was click-bait TV. An hour of Daily Express front page headlines spliced together with Edwina Currie and Katie Hopkins hurling out bile and snarling like Gremlins to screams of fury from members of the audience.
There was zero debate, plenty of screeching and snide remarks,...

London, Aug 25: A new research has shown the exact age when men can no longer resist the allure of wearing skin-tight Speedos on the beach - mid-fifties.
It has found that at age 55, the allure of the tiny trunks - dubbed budgie-smugglers for their tight fit - can no longer be ignored.
The older men get, the smaller their swimming shorts become - thanks to nightclub legend Peter Stringfellow, 70, designer Giorgio Armani, 77, and Daniel Craig, 43.
"It was no surprise that most -respondents referenced the pulling power of Daniel Craig's tight blue trunks as their main beach influence," the Daily Express quoted Ruth Attridge, spokeswoman for Debenhams which carried out the research, as saying.
"However, when.

Once the famous just fronted charity appeals. Now an increasing number are putting their weight behind political causes. Leo Benedictus investigates the rise of the celebrity activist
These are early days, of course, but it is possible Hugh Grant has changed the world. It was only at the last minute that his former partner, Jemima Khan, recruited him to write for The New Statesman, but now his article turning the tables on the phone hackers has created a sensation around the world, crashing the magazine's website, and being tweeted nearly 10,000 times.
What Grant did was not, in itself, extraordinary. Following a chance encounter with Paul McMullan, a former News of the World journalist and self-confessed phone-hacker, the actor arranged to visit him again in the pub he now owns. What McMullan did not realise was that Grant, himself a victim of the phone-hackers, planned to record their conversation secretly. Though mildly brave,...

The bash, which was organized by his manager Nik Linnen, started at The Grove hotel in Hertfordshire, near London on Saturday, September 25 where Russell and his friends were taken by bus to watch his favorite soccer team West Ham United beat London rivals Tottenham Hotspur, before privately dining at the York and Albany restaurant.

The owner of top London strip club Stringfellows has shot down reports Kiefer Sutherland was ejected from the venue due to drunken behavior, insisting paparazzi shots of the incident have been spun out of control. The "24" star was enjoying a boozy night out with a pal on Thursday, April 15 and decided to end the night at exotic dance venue Stringfellows.
British tabloid The Sun reported the inebriated actor began dancing erratically with his shirt off and shouting inside the club before getting into a scuffle with security when he was allegedly asked to leave. But club boss Peter Stringfellow has dismissed the claims, insisting Sutherland was never booted out of the venue and was polite to every member of staff.
In a blog post on the Stringfellows website, he writes, "(Sutherland) had a wonderful time, was incredibly charming to all the staff, very generous to all the girls and made friends with my security people.

Kiefer had slipped and the doorman tried to catch him and at the same time keep the photographers from taking photos, needless to say none of this worked and the paparazzi had a field day."
Stringfellow ends his note with an open invitation to Sutherland to return to the strip club whenever he's in London: "Kiefer, if you read this we’d love to see you at the club. The girls had a terrific time with you and you are welcome back at Stringfellows anytime."
Sutherland's drinking has previously landed him in trouble with the police - he served 48 days in prison in 2007 and early 2008 after pleading no contest to a driving under the influence (DUI) charge.
The 24 star was enjoying a boozy night out with a pal on Thursday and decided to end the night at exotic dance venue Stringfellows.
"Around about 3.15am he decided it would be very funny to take his shirt off. When it was explained to him very gently that that was the job of the girls and not the customers he burst out laughing. His friend thought that this would be a good time for them go home."

Ant & Dec have admitted that each year they come up with a wish list for the next year’s series of I’m A Celebrity….Get Me Out Of Here.
Ant told The Sun: “Towards the end of a series we go out for a few beers and, literally, write our wish list on a beer mat. We often can’t read it in the morning, but George Takei was one of our beer mat suggestions, so was Biggins, and Jimmy White.”
Jimmy White? I bet they regret that now….the man doesn’t speak!
He added: “We’ve got a new wish list already, Sally Morgan Star Psychic, Mr T, Gary Coleman. The name that tops it every year though is Peter Stringfellow and we think we’re very close to getting him.”...
