“’I sacrificed my love on the altars of fame,’ Leonard Cohen said in the ‘70s,” “So Long, Marianne” showrunner Øystein Karlsen notes. Cohen was referring of course to his ‘60s decade-long relationship with Norway’s Marianne Ilhen, which shaped him for life.
One of the highest-profile and most anticipated world premieres in Series Mania main competition, “So Long, Marianne” is a coming of age love story which, in a quietly innovative, genre-breaking turn, asks whether the place in the world chosen by one character, Leonard Cohen, was always for his good.
Sold by Cineflix Rights as an eight-part series, “So Long, Marianne” begins in 1959 focusing on Norway’s Marianne Ilhen and Cohen’s love idyll on Hydra, a Greek island, which Ilhen reaches as the partner of budding Norwegian novelist Axel Jensen, and Cohen looking to find a place where, he says in Episode 1, he “can take responsibility for my own identity.

Leonard Cohen had a huge impact on generations of fans, and So Long, Marianne star Alex Wolff is one of them.
Speaking exclusively to Deadline ahead of So Long‘s worldwide premiere at Series Mania this week, Oppenheimer and Hereditary actor Wolff paid tribute to the late singer-songwriter. “His contribution to my life has been so substantial that whatever words I have don’t sum up what he’s meant to my working life and to me personally,” he said.
Wolff, who is himself a musician and recording artist, plays Cohen in So Long, Marianne, which is one of the buzziest international series at Series Mania, which is Europe’s largest scripted television festival. The Nrk and Crave series is the International Competition category against the likes of Peacock’s Apples Never Fall and the ABC’s House of Gods.

Paramount is to combine its AVoD platform Pluto TV with BVoD My5 in the UK. The platform will combine My5’s collection of Paramount UK network Channel 5’s content such as All Creatures Great and Small with Pluto, which carries numerous Fast Channels. Pluto has recently expanded annual revenue beyond $1B, according to Paramount, and is available in 35 markets. Fast once again dominated much of the chatter at Mipcom Cannes and Paramount Chief Strategy Officer and Chief Business Development Officer Jeff Shultz spoke at the confab’s now-annual Fast Summit. “As we look ahead to an IP-delivered future, this is...

Feist stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Monday to perform “Hiding Out In the Open,” a cut from her new album Multitudes. Watch her appearance on the show below.
Taking over the late night stage with a four-piece backing band, Feist sounded just as good — if not better — than the studio recording of “Hiding Out In the Open,” an acoustic ballad that attempts to navigate the baggage that’s brought into a romantic relationship: “Maybe he’s gonna let me down/ Love is not a thing you try to do/ It wants to be the thing compelling you,” goes some of the track’s standout lines. Although the stage backdrop emulated the seemingly-infinite images of the Multitudes album cover, the one real Feist was the true focus. Check it out below.

Google was hit with another antitrust lawsuit on Thursday, as 35 states other other U.S. territories claim that the internet giant has stifled competition in its dominance of web search.
“As the gateway to the internet, Google has systematically degraded the ability of other companies to access consumers,” the lawsuit states. “In doing so, just as Microsoft improperly maintained its monopoly through conduct directed at Netscape, Google has improperly maintained and extended its search-related monopolies through exclusionary conduct that has harmed consumers, advertisers, and the competitive process itself. Google, moreover, cannot establish business justifications or pro-competitive benefits sufficient to justify its exclusionary conduct in any relevant market.”
This is the third antitrust lawsuit filed by state and federal officials in recent months. On Wednesday, a group of 10 states, led by Texas, sued Google over its advertising practices. The Justice Department sued Google in October, claiming that it unfairly entered pacts...

Per the book’s synopsis, Supreme Inequality surveys the most significant Supreme Court rulings since the Nixon era and exposes how rarely the Court has veered away from its agenda of promoting inequality. Many of the greatest successes of the Warren Court of the 1950s and 1960s, in areas such as school desegregation, voting rights, and protecting workers, have been abandoned in favor of rulings that protect corporations and privileged Americans, who tend to be white, wealthy, and powerful. The spec script, based on Adam Cohen’s book Imbeciles: The Supreme Court, American Eugenics, and the Sterilization of Carrie Buck, was written by former litigation lawyer Melissa London Hilfers.
The logline: In the not-so-distant past, America was gripped by a political movement that promised to eliminate the “unfit” from our country. After waiting years, the "Psych"-Os are victorious!
Die-hard fans of USA Network's "Psych" finally get to see "Psych: The Musical" on Sunday, Dec. 15.
For those who know Dule Hill only from "The West Wing," he's a smooth tap-dancer now starring on Broadway in "After Midnight." He, James Roday, Timothy Omundson (who has a particularly rich baritone) and the rest of the cast also prove they can sing in the two-hour special.
"After Season 5, we were at Comic-Con, and (series creator Steve Franks) put it out there to fans: 'Do you want a musical?' And everyone screamed," Roday tells Zap2it. "He could have said, 'Do you want a show where we all sit in a circle and break wind?' And they would have reacted in the same way."
Franks recalls he toyed with the idea of creating a musical episode since the beginning.

The musical event of the television season is almost upon us, "Psych"-Os. Stars Dule Hill and James Roday and creator Steve Franks spoke with the press Tuesday (Dec. 10) about what went into making such a big episode, which Roday says was nothing short of Herculean.
"After all the work that [Franks] did to get us there, there was no way we weren't gonna step up to deliver the goods," says Roday. "He wrote the whole thing, he conceived it, he composed it with Adam Cohen, he directed it. It was a gargantuan, Herculean task that he took on, so in some ways, when you think about it, Dule and I had the easy job of just bringing it to life."
"Steve's been so generous with letting ... [the writers] have the autonomy to do crazy things on his show over the years, that knowing that this was his baby, his crown jewel ... It was a no-brainer,...

Does something bad always happen in a cabin in the remote part of the wilderness?
Indie thriller “Raw Cut” made its world debut earlier this month at the La Femme Film Festival in Los Angeles.
Here’s the synopsis:
When Adam Cohen invites his best college friends, Jack and Amanda, to his new Wyoming home for a week’s getaway to meet his new fiancé, Stephanie, the two couples get much more than the peace and solitude they were hoping for. Stephanie asks for help with her thesis film, a ‘found footage’ piece. The friends are going to play-act a traditional horror story: two ingénues are stalked and murdered by two crazed hillbillies. But who is stalking whom? How far are we willing to go for our art? How much will people take before they burst? Raw Cut explores the meta world between found footage and reality. What starts as...

Sunday night’s broadcast of the 2013 Juno Awards in Regina wasn't just light on awards — it was light on surprises.
As predicted, Carly Rae Jepsen was queen of the night. She won single of the year for “Call Me Maybe” which actually Was the undisputed single of the year. That never happens!
“I feel so blessed. It’s crazy to think how one song can change your life,” she said onstage. “Kiss,” the career-making record that has plenty more songs on par with “Call Me Maybe,” by the way, also snagged Album of the Year. (Carly Rae also won a Juno on Saturday for Pop Album of the Year, beating out Justin Bieber, who made her career with a few tweets and an adorable viral lip-dub video.)
Backstage, Jepsen was still awestruck. “I’m moved beyond words,” she said. She’s also feeling the weight of the “Call Me Maybe” phenomenon.

If you ever needed evidence of the diversity in Canadian music – or the fact that the Junos can be a bit of an Oprah “You get a car! You get a car! You get a car!” love-in – you couldn't do better than the Juno Fan Choice category, which bundles together Drake, Carly Rae Jepsen, Metric, Celine Dion, Justin Bieber, Leonard Cohen, Marianas Trench, Michael Buble, Nickelback and Hedley.
But let’s be less cynical and instead appreciate an award show that dares break down to a metaphorical cage match between Leonard Cohen and Rush against Carly Rae and Bieber.

Brotherhood is the story of Harry Watson (17) a teenager with a serious attitude problem. His home life is as frayed as his mothers nerves, from the constant fighting between him and his older brother Josh (19) who has Downs Syndrome. Harry has always resented his older brother for not acting like an older brother should and for all the attention his mother lavishes upon him. Caught between her two sons when they are at loggerheads, it is a source of great upset for mum.
Their already difficult relationship is tested when, in order to get what he wants Harry must bring Josh onside and repair their relationship, at least on the surface. In a drunken adolescent misadventure when Harry needs help most, it falls to Josh to save his brother's neck. Can they repair their relationship or has it gone too far?

Last night was a big red carpet night but also a big night for music. The Festival Music house kicked off. 3 days of music at the mod club featuring Canadian artists.
Tonight Kathleen Edwards performed as did Adam Cohen ( yes Leonard’s son!). Imogene Poots was on the red carpet for A Late Quartet. I aske her who some of her fave musicians/artists were and she professed her love for Leonard Cohen's music. Her jaw dropped when she heard Adam was in town!
Christopher Walken was also on the carpet for A Late Quartet and yes I did ask him for more cow bell! Hey why not! Catherine Keener told me she wants to learn to play the guitar now.
Like every other night...after a carpet comes a party! Now I don’t want to sound like I’m complaining "Oh poor me, I have to go...

"I was asked in some consultant capacity on a few occasions and I'm very happy to listen to what's being created and be asked for my opinions," he told BBC News. Despite feeling happy to be involved in critiquing his father's (more)...
