Despite facing stiff competition from major studio movies such as Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves and Cocaine Bear, one low-budget shark movie has reigned above them all. The Black Demon held the number-one spot on Amazon’s streaming rankings for seven days, which has prompted discussion of a sequel.
The Black Demon is a shark thriller with a supernatural edge that follows a family stranded on a crumbling oil rig in Baja facing off against a vengeful megalodon shark. Produced for just under $10 million, The Black Demon may not have received the best reviews upon release, but it’s clear that there’s an audience for the movie.

Rambo: Last Blood (watch the extended cut of that Here) director Adrian Grunberg‘s shark thriller The Black Demon is set to reach theatres on April 28th, and I’ve been anxious to see a trailer for this one because the only publicity stills released up to this point have only shown lead actor Josh Lucas (The Forever Purge) and his character’s family standing on dry land. He had the first auds roaring in the aisles with his seam-splitting debut. The Park City at Midnight launch of Black Dynamite catapulted Scott Sanders into the B-movie homage/slapstick elite. Fast forward to 2012, and the helmer found his sophomore project with cult actor Luis Guzman toplining. High grade schlock or a delirious action-comedy offering, details on the Lionsgate project have been mum: production got underway in June of 2012, there is no release date and not much news in the in what should have been its year of release. Has Aztec Warrior been pinned down because of extra work (see concept art here) or has it been prepped with a ribbon, marketing campaign for a slick Sundance delivery? We’ll soon find out.
