Taylor Sheridan is taking the world by storm thanks to his to his Yellowstone series and its prequels. However, the extremely talented director has many other projects under his belt including the 2021 action thriller Those Who Wish Me Dead starring Angelina Jolie. The film revolves around the story of Finn Little’s Connor who is on the run from assassins after witnessing his father’s death.
Those Who Wish Me Dead (2021)
Connor then finds himself with Angelina Jolie’s Hannah, a wildland firefighter, who does all that she can to keep him safe. Needless to say, there are a ton of adrenaline-pumping action scenes in the film and while Angelina Jolie is no stranger to stunts, her young co-star sure was. Luckily, he had the perfect coach and the perfect co-star to help him through it all.

“Barry” will compete for the fourth and final time at the 2023 Emmys with its last season. The HBO tragicomedy has had a successful awards showing throughout its entire run, with star and co-showrunner Bill Hader nabbing two Emmys for acting (2018 and ’19) and Henry Winkler finally claiming his first Primetime trophy (2018). Even though Season 4 nabbed “Barry’s” lowest nomination tally at the Emmys, it still sustained double digits with 11 bids, including Best Comedy Series, as part of HBO’s total of the most noms for a network at 123. Read on for a closer look at Barry’s 11 Emmy nominations for Season 4.
In the comedy series race, “Barry” is the only HBO program competing. With 11 nominations, it is tied with Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building,” and is surpassed in sequence by Netflix’s “Wednesday” at 12, FX’s “The Bear” at 13, Amazon Prime Video’s “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” at 14 and...

[Editor’s note: The following story contains spoilers for “Barry.”]
You’re not alone: “Barry” stunt coordinate Wade Allen also misses the days when the HBO series was about a fucked-up hitman who wanted to be an actor. The darkness of the show’s final season has only grown alongside Bill Hader’s visual style; and Episode 4, “it takes a psycho,” required Allen, production designer Eric Schoonover, special effects supervisor Ryan Riley, and visual effects supervisor Laura Hill, to create the show’s most complex — and easily one of its most horrifying — visual gags to date. Unlike the fate of Sian Heder’s “Mega Girls” franchise, which we have to imagine the studio is locking down tight, a ton of Episode 4 spoilers below.
While Barry (Bill Hader) lurks in the shadows of Sally’s (Sarah Goldberg) apartment after escaping prison, Hank (Anthony Carrigan) disposes of his would-be crime-utopia henchmen in the cold light of day — specifically the cold light of a silo filled with sand.

Halloween is the season for horror, of course. But October also means fall TV is in full swing, so it’s also the season for comedy, animation, drama, and more. TV shows of all kinds honor this spooky time of year, be it through explicit celebrations of the season or more abstract explorations of dark themes like existential dread, societal corruption, and the hubris of humanity.
Instead of just binging television horror this season — “Yellowjackets” is for winter! — why not truly frighten yourself with scary episodes of (generally) non-scary shows? “Black Mirror” regularly borders on nightmarish, but falls squarely into the sci-fi category, and still one episode haunts us like the scariest movies do. “Chernobyl” recounts real-world horror, which makes it a historical drama, but we’d argue that Episode 4 is a haunting on par with Mike Flanagan’s “Hill House.” Even comedies like “Boy Meets World” and “American Vandal...

Curated by the IndieWire Crafts team, Craft Considerations is a platform for filmmakers to talk about recent work we believe is worthy of awards consideration. In partnership with HBO, for this edition we look at how director and star Bill Hader, cinematographer Carl Herse, and stunt coordinator Wade Allen have pushed the filmmaking of “Barry” to new heights.
Nothing could be in danger of looking more visually plain and unshow-y than the travails of wannabe actors in Los Angeles — even those who are reluctant hitmen. But “Barry” creator Bill Hader has always loved movies where “You’re in such a unique world that when it’s over, you’re stuck in that world.” Hader told IndieWire that he approaches filmmaking for the show from as cinematic a perspective he can, using image and especially sound to capture the thought processes and emotional plights of characters trapped by their own bad choices.

Variety shines a light on the teams you may have missed this Emmys season.
“Abbott Elementary”
Camera Operators
As fans of “The Office” know, half of the humor of a mockumentary is the camera angles, swiftly cut-ting to a reaction shot or zoom-ing in on a ridiculous moment. The cameras on ABC’s “Abbott Elementary” never miss a beat, and the operators feel like just another hilarious scene partner. — Sasha Urban
“The Great”
Food Designer
Food, sumptuous food. “The Great’s” second season served up a feast fit for royal banquets. Peter (Nicholas Hoult) and Catherine (Elle Fanning) ate their way through the Hulu show. It’s creator Tony McNamara who decides what goes on that table and production designer Francesca Di Mottola and her team who come up with the squirrels and rats and other meaty things that the cast have to eat. — Jazz Tangcay

With four Emmy nominations for his work on Barry this year—comedy series, acting, writing and directing—Season 2 of the HBO series really allowed Bill Hader to show his riveting helming finesse across two episodes: “ronny/lily” and the finale “berkman/block”. In the nominated “ronny/lily”, Hader’s hitman Barry is trying to take out martial arts maven Ronny Proxin, only to be ambushed by the guy’s daughter, Lily, an 11-year-old karate dynamo. It’s a great chase sequence that begins in a smoky, blasé, suburban home, and continues onto the street and into a grocery store. It’s just one example of Hader’s many achievements.
What was the genesis for your Emmy-nominated episode “ronny/lily”? I hear a stunt coordinator recommended child actress Jessie Giacomazzi who knows plenty of karate.
Going into Season 2, we knew that we wanted Loach [John Pirruccello] to work with Fuches [Stephen Root] and corner Barry.

Bill Hader hasn’t been shy about his dream of becoming a film director. One of his motivations in creating HBO’s “Barry” with Alec Berg was to leverage his value as performer in order to get an opportunity to direct a couple of episodes while guiding the visual language of the show. Yet in looking back at Season 1, Hader feels like he was far too timid in the first two episodes he directed.
“I felt like on Season 1 I didn’t do a good job of some things,” said Hader when he was a guest on IndieWire’s Filmmaker Toolkit. “When I’d look back I went, ‘Oh man, I wish I’d stuck to my guns. I saw that in a specific way and I kind of chickened out.’ Or if someone said, “Oh, don’t you want to do it this way?’ And I went, ‘Ok,’ and...

Twenty years ago this week - Feb. 9, 1996 - the romcom-dramedy Beautiful Girls first opened in theaters. The film centers around Willie (Timothy Hutton), who returns home for his high school reunion in a small Massachusetts town. It's funny, it's heartwarming, and it features one of the better ensemble casts of the 1990s. In honor of the film's 20th anniversary, we're pulling out the yearbook and looking up the film's cast to what they've been up to over the past 20 years. Timothy HuttonHutton won Best Supporting Actor in 1981 for Ordinary People when he was only 20. To this day he's the youngest-ever...

The real-time gimmick can be a dicey proposition for filmmakers. More often than not, the result is a less-than-satisfying attempt to drum up a little extra tension at the expense of characters and story. Still, that doesn’t stop them trying, with stunt co-ordinators and second unit directors Darrin Prescott and Wade Allen hiring Aaron Eckhart to star in their switch to first unit work with Live! Grand Theft Parsons writer Jeremy Drysdale came up with the script for this one, which finds Eckhart as a disgraced cop called Kyle Penny. He’s on a mission to rescue the police commissioner’s daughter, who has been kidnapped and is being held somewhere in the city with a countdown clock of 80 minutes before she dies.If that wasn’t enough, Penny also has a deranged killer tracking him down. He’ll have to team up with an ambitious young online reporter...

Yep, the headline says what you think it says. The 1988 Jean-Claude Van Damme film Bloodsport is going to be remade, and Philip Noyce, who last directed the rather silly film Salt, is going to be behind the camera. Screen Daily says the film will follow "an American who goes to Brazil to recover from the violence he has experienced in Afghanistan who gets involved in a martial arts contest." Robert Mark Kamen (Taken, Colombiana) will write, and that's probably a good thing -- he's been through the Luc Besson action wringer, and can probably turn out a serviceable script for something like this in his sleep. In a way, this isn't even a great surprise, as a few basic martial arts movie templates are used to power a good many fight films. Bloodsport's tournament setup is one of them. But a remake of one of those templates would traditionally...
