Since marrying Prince William in 2011, the Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton) has mastered royal protocol including a proper curtsy. While getting that right may not seem difficult, it is something Meghan Markle admitted she had trouble with at first. During the Sussexes’ Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan, the duchess talked about meeting Queen Elizabeth for the first time and being told she had to curtsy.
“I remember we were in the car, driving and he’s [Harry] like, ‘You know how to curtsy, right?’ And I just thought it was a joke,” Meghan recalled.
“Now I’m starting to realize this is a big deal. I mean, Americans will understand this. We have Medieval Times dinner and tournament. It was like that. Like, I curtsied as though I was like … ‘Pleasure to meet you, Your Majesty,'” she said laughing while bowing and spreading out her arms.

Every Sex and the City fan will instantly recognize two high-wattage looks up for sale in the latest event presented by Julien’s Auctions — one piece worn onscreen by series star and executive producer Sarah Jessica Parker — as they’ve transcended the function of costumes or fashion to become part of the show’s enduring iconography.
“Unstoppable: Signature Styles of Iconic Women in Fashion” is indeed an apt title for an upcoming auction that includes the three-tiered belted tutu skirt worn by Parker in Satc‘s opening credits (and again in the 2008 movie). The skirt was famously purchased by the show’s costume designer, Patricia Field, who discovered the piece in a $5 bargain bin and fashioned it into one of the most-recognized looks in the series.

Kate Middleton has new earrings courtesy of the late Queen Elizabeth II’s personal jewelry collection. The Princess of Wales debuted pearl earrings in November 2023, which, per a report, had never been seen before publicly. The catch? The late monarch sported them as a different type of jewelry, a brooch.
Kate wore pearl earrings made from a brooch of Queen Elizabeth’s on Remembrance Day
On Nov. 12, 2023, Kate joined her fellow British royals to mark Remembrance Day in London, England. Held annually at The Cenotaph war memorial, Kate’s known to wear black, three red poppy pins, and pearls for the occasion.
This time was no different. The 41-year-old repeated an outfit consisting of a black ensemble as well as pearl and poppy accessories. Kate wore a black military-style coat from Catherine Walker along with a Philip Treacy hat.

Charlie Chaplin once allegedly said, "Life is a tragedy when seen in close-up, but a comedy in long-shot." That observation holds even more truth when "life" is swapped for "history"; after all, when looking back over humanity's seemingly never-ending tally of blunders, foolish short-sightedness, lazy handwaving, backpedaling, hatefulness, obfuscation, crimes of passion and other mean-spirited and/or boneheaded screw-ups that have resulted, snowball effect-like, in the messed up world we are all doomed to live in today ... well, you're either crying or laughing.
Judging by the films he's made over his stunningly prolific 46-year directing career, Ridley Scott appears to have chosen laughter. That's not to say he's a comedian, mind you; only real sickos would be likely to throw on "Blade Runner" or "The Counselor" in order to relax and have a chill time. Yet Scott's misanthropic humor is undeniably present in everything from the Lovecraftian coldness of "Alien...

Ridley Scott’s Napoleon opens in 1793 as a revolutionary rage courses throughout France. The camera tracks a ragged yet prideful Marie Antoinette (Catherine Walker) making her way toward her executioners as commoners hurl insults and tomatoes at her. This sequence kicks off the film with a propulsive energy that instantly keys us to the rowdy spirit of the times. Unfortunately, as soon as the guillotine drops, Napoleon shifts into traditional historical biopic mode, dutifully touching on major events like the Reign of Terror and the royalist insurrection, but only in the most compulsory, disinterested manner.
This Wikipedia rundown of sorts may just be a way to get Napoleon Bonaparte (Joaquin Phoenix) front and center a little earlier, but it’s a recurring problem in Scott’s film. We probably won’t see this week’s streaming debuts on the Oscars’ nomination roster come January, but they offer a variety of genres that will satisfy whatever mood you find yourself in this weekend.
The contender to watch this week: “Pain Hustlers“
The opioid epidemic has fueled a wave of movie and TV shows in the last few years, from “Dopesick” and “Ben Is Back” to the gorgeous Oscar-nominated documentary “All the Beauty and the Bloodshed.” Hollywood’s latest Big Pharma indictment is a star-studded dramedy directed by “Harry Potter” alum David Yates. Based on a book by journalist Evan Hughes, “Pain Hustlers” features Emily Blunt, Chris Evans, Catherine O’Hara, and Andy Garcia in a crime saga revolving around a pharmaceutical start-up whose founder served two years in prison. Reviews have been tepid, but “Hustlers” is now streaming on Netflix following a limited theatrical release.

She may occasionally experiment — ahem, BAFTAs glove moment — but Kate’s style is “timelessness,” according to royal historian Tessa Dunlop.

A royal historian says Kate Middleton’s years of “dressing too old for her age” has paid off. How the voted-most-stylish Princess of Wales uses “timelessness” to appear “unchanging” like another royal before her.
Kate Middleton is a ‘reassuring presence’ in ‘timeless’ clothing
She may occasionally experiment — ahem, BAFTAs glove moment — but Kate’s style is “timelessness,” according to royal historian Tessa Dunlop.
“She knows about the imaging around timelessness,” Dunlop (via Ok! Magazine). This is why Kate’s perhaps seemingly mature outfits now give off an “unchanging” air.

A color psychologist suggest Kate Middleton and Camilla Parker Bowles sent a subtle message to Meghan Markle with their choice of Easter outfits. Wearing strikingly similar shades of blue, the women appeared to rebuff a claim by Markle about how senior royals must dress during Easter services at St. George’s Chapel.

In the Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex discussed their experiences as members of the House of Windsor. Markle shared her take on the fashion choices she made while standing alongside her husband, Prince Harry, at royal events.
Meghan Markle claimed she had to wear muted colors like beige, knowing other royals would dress more brightly. “Most of the time that I was in the U.K.

Beautifully nuanced performances underpin an interesting drama that evolves from late-life romance into study of family trauma across generations
Shot on the misty Achill island off Ireland’s west coast, Finnish director Klaus Härö’s English-language debut grapples with the rough currents of late-in-life regrets and resentment. Cranky retired sea captain Howard (James Cosmo) – once content with shutting himself off from the outside world – is forced to open his disorderly home, and subsequently his heart, to Annie (Brid Brennan), a housekeeper hired by his overworked daughter Grace (Catherine Walker).
What begins as a lighthearted autumnal romance gradually evolves into a thorny study of familial grievances. Troubled by her own unhappy marriage, Grace grows increasingly bitter about her father’s new relationship. The reasons for her disturbing, self-destructive behaviours spring from a traumatic childhood, the details of which are revealed late in the film – too late, really, to fully flesh out her character.

To Annie (Brid Brennan), Howard (James Cosmo) is an ageing man who retains his mental faculties but can no longer manage without a bit of help around the house. To his daughter Grace (Catherine Walker), he’s the source of a lifetime of woes, but is also somebody for whom she is responsible and about whose true needs she knows best. To the village children, he’s an invincible old sea captain who once strangled an angry gorilla with his bare hands. Who is the real Howard? Though this sweet tale of late life love may seem to chart a simple course, there are deeper currents at play. He’s every bit as difficult to fathom as Grace herself.

Prince William and Kate Middleton had some friendly competition on Saturday as they cheered for opposite teams while attending the Wales vs. England Six Nations rugby match at Principality Stadium in Cardiff.
Since 2016, William, 40, has been patron of the Welsh Rugby Union while Kate, 41, has supported England since early 2022, when she took over as patron of the Rugby Football League and the Rugby Football Union. Princess Diana was known for wearing some iconic pieces of jewelry when she was Princess of Wales. One of the boldest pieces she ever wore was the Attalah crucifix pendant created by former crown jeweler Garrard. And, it just sold at auction for an incredible 200,000 to a Hollywood A-lister.

According to the fine jewelry experts at UK retailer Steven Stone, it’s incredibly rare for a piece of jewelry once worn by Princess Diana to hit the marketplace. But, it did recently happen when the Attalah crucifix pendant led Sotheby’s annual Royal and Noble sale in mid-January.
A sentimental piece not seen since Diana’s passing, the elaborate gold, silver, amethyst, and diamond pendant is in the shape of a cross and is believed to be created in the early 20th century by Garrard.

Meghan Markle just gave a subtle nod to her late mother-in-law. Meghan, who attended the 2022 Ripple of Hope Gala Tuesday evening alongside Prince Harry, sported a special piece of jewelry previously belonging to Princess Diana.
Bringing the glam in a white off-the-shoulder dress with a thigh-high slit, Meghan paired the dress with a black clutch and matching black heels, but it was that beautiful blue ring that really stood out. It’s not the first time Meghan’s worn the gem either. She previously sported the stunner during her wedding reception.
A Kensington Palace official confirmed to Et at the time that the aquamarine ring belonged to Diana, and was gifted to Meghan by Harry on their wedding day.

Finnish director Klaus Härö makes his English-language debut with Toronto Film Festival premiere “My Sailor, My Love.” A gentle drama about a retired sea captain falling in love one last time will be spotlighted at the Helsinki-based event Finnish Film Affair next. Global Screen is handling the sales.
Härö, an experienced filmmaker behind Golden Globe-nominated “The Fencer,” didn’t feel “desperate” to make a movie in English, he says.
“I hope it doesn’t feel forced. With English, there is always this thought that maybe this way, it will reach more people. But it just felt natural to set it in Ireland.”
“I love the loneliness of this landscape, its proximity to the sea. Also, ‘The Fencer’ was shot in Estonia and my next film will be in Finnish, German, Hebrew and Yiddish.”

Howard (James Cosmo) lives what appears to be a hermitic life of unwavering obstinance. He doesn’t even open the door when his daughter Grace (Catherine Walker) and her husband Martin (Aidan O’Hare) arrive—a seemingly inconsequential fact until you realize it’s his birthday and she’s there to ready for the celebration. It would be easy to dismiss his demeanor as immovable then. Why would he act like this with his loved ones if that wasn’t how he acts with everyone? Except attending the local bar afterwards to celebrate more inexplicably sees Howard suddenly sparkling to life. He regales the children with tales at sea, enjoys a slice of their cake (not Grace’s), and seems a decade younger. Where then is the disconnect? What are we missing?

One of the great things about horror movies is that they offer a universal experience. No matter where you go in the world, the same things are considered scary, which is why great horror movies are made all over the world. Today we’re going to be focusing on ones made or produced in Ireland, so if you’re looking for a fright, try one of these out.

The Sleep of Death was released in 1980 and was written and directed by Calvin Floyd. It’s often described as a Swedish-Irish film, thanks to the prevalence of Swedish cast members. Beneath the eerily calm surfaces of Christine Molloy and Joe Lawlor’s terrific “Rose Plays Julie,” a transgressive story bides its time. It’s a tale that feels ancient in structure, but terrifyingly modern in detail, mapping MeToo-era revelations and a contemporary preoccupation with fractured identities onto a deceptively simple revenge plot that could have been plucked directly from a Greek drama, then plunged into liquid nitrogen to achieve its deep-freeze aesthetic. Still waters run deep, but frozen ones reach down fathoms, and who knows what perfectly preserved bodies lie waiting to be excavated.
Digging up the past is one of its many themes, laid out almost immediately as Rose (an uncannily poised and unreadable Ann Skelly), a Dublin-based veterinary student, takes faltering but determined steps to track down her biological parents. First, she calls her mother Ellen an actress now living in London, with a 16-year-old daughter who knows nothing of Rose’s existence.

How much difference is there, in the end, between members of different religions faced with the same type of existential crisis? That's one of the questions addressed in Thomas Robert Lee's haunting portrait of community discord. Set in an obscure Christian sect which has held onto the old ways well into the 20th Century (whose influence we barely glimpse), it focuses on an outsider, Agatha Earnshaw (Catherine Walker), who is secretly involved with a heathen cult - and on her daughter, the titular Audrey, born during an eclipse.
The bulk of the action takes place in 1973, when Audrey is in her late teens, almost ready to be accepted into full womanhood by her mother's friends. She's been kept away from the other villagers by her worried mother, and when she witnesses her mother being threatened by one of them - a conflict that adults will recognise as complex, with both.

For The Curse of Audrey Earnshaw, writer/director Thomas Robert Lee transports viewers to a small community in 1973 that is on the brink of annihilation. Pestilence has ravaged the land, the mortality rates for children in the area are horrifically high and the only person who is seemingly untouched by these unfortunate occurrences is Agatha Earnshaw (Catherine Walker), who lives in exile outside the tight-knit religious colony. She is the only resident who seems to be thriving, and always has plenty to eat, but she doesn’t share her bounty with the other villagers as they have long suspected that Agatha has pledged her allegiance to dark forces, and so she feels no remorse about letting those who wish her ill suffer in turn.
But it’s Agatha’s secret that is the biggest reason she has no desire to co-mingle with the other residents: she has a daughter named...

Warning: contains finale spoilers for The Deceived
‘This has all been about your fragile little ego, hasn’t it?’ Ophelia told Michael in The Deceived’s final episode, and she was dead-on. Dr Michael Callaghan, played by Emmett J Scanlan, was poison to the women around him. He lied, cheated and manipulated to conceal his inadequacies, and in the end, paid the price. With spoilers, here’s how the psychological thriller’s finale played out.
What happened to Annabelle?
Before Michael’s affair with Ophelia (played by Emily Reid), he was cheating on his wife with another student – Annabelle Lorimer (played by Saffron Coomber). She had written the manuscript of her first novel – The Ruin – and asked him to read it. Realising it was good, and having failed to get his own first novel published, Michael stole her work, changed the title, and had it published as his own debut.
