Dancing with the Stars returned on Monday with the semi-final round of season 18 and Kenny Ortega serving as the guest judge for American Icons night.
Dancing With the Stars Recap
Candace Cameron Bure, whose personal icon is Bible teacher and author Angela Thomas, danced a Viennese Waltz for her first routine with Mark Ballas. Though she obviously messed up during a pass, the judges still found areas to praise. Scores: 8+9+9+8=34
For their second dance, Candace and Mark danced a Jazz routine to Janet Jackson’s “Nasty.” It probably wasn’t the best song choice for Candace, who has made no secret of wanting to remain wholesome on the show due to her faith. Though it was a bit bland, the former Full House star’s technique was solid. Scores: 9+10+10+9=38
Charlie White and Sharna Burgess took on a Foxtrot inspired by White’s idol, Olympic figure skater Scott Hamilton. Like with the Mary Poppins routine,...

"Nobody in Hollywood would have bought that screenplay. Even as a comedy, it was too preposterous," says Chicago Tribune columnist Phil Hersh, one of several members of the media -- including former CBS News anchor Connie Chung, USA Today columnist Christine Brennan, and NBC figure skating analyst and gold medalist Scott Hamilton -- who comment extensively, and with some humor, about the unbelievable events twenty years ago that changed figure skating forever. But as Hamilton points out, it also changed media forever. The story of Nancy Kerrigan and Tonya Harding is also a story of the media. The public's obsession with this "reality TV

Let’s not mince words. Russia’s Adelina Sotnikova owned the night. Seemingly out of nowhere, the Russian figure skater became a podium contender (not to mention EW’s Olympic Stud of the Day) on Wednesday. With Thursday’s finals, she proved she was worthy of the title once more.
As was only appropriate, Sotnikova’s path to victory started with some no-joke training methods:
Though Sotnikova didn’t smack — or at least wasn’t filmed smacking — the rink’s wall before her free skate like she did before the short program, the 17-year-old was nonetheless impressively intense as she landed doubles,...

Aside from watching skeleton slider Noelle Pikus-Pace finally win her Olympic medal, there wasn’t much to love in NBC’s primetime broadcast on Valentine’s Day. Commentator Scott Hamilton referred to the men’s free skate as “disappointing,” and Ted Ligety admitted he “choked” in the Super Combined. On the upside, I did have time to wonder how many people have sang, “I like the way you work it, Ted Ligety” to the tune of “No Diggity” to him, so that’s something. (Update: At least one.) Here we go.

Olympics recap: Jeremy Abbott's a phoenix, plus the slopestyle boys at their 5 most precious moments
There are many candidates for Thursday’s Olympic Stud of the Day, an EW.com tradition dating back to the 2008 Summer Games that honors the athlete who was the night’s biggest/coolest badass. The U.S.’s Joss Christensen, Gus Kenworthy, and Nick Goepper swept the inaugural men’s ski slopestyle event — a feat the U.S. has only accomplished twice before in Winter Olympics history. Japan’s Yuzuru Hanyu became the first male figure skater to ever score above 100 points for a short program. Zhang Hong was the first Chinese speed skater to win long-track gold. But we...

The Xxii Olympics officially opened on Friday, February 8th, 2014 in Sochi, Russia.
Thirty years ago the Xiv Olympics took place in Sarajevo in what was Yugoslavia and is now Bosnia-Herzegovina, although the region is usually just called Bosnia. Thirty years later the Olympic village, the ice rink, the bobsled and luge tracks, the ski jump, the other sports facilities and hotels are gone, destroyed during the Bosnian war and the 44-months-long Siege of Sarajevo which killed nearly twelve thousand of the city’s residents.
Thirty years ago this week I watched and was swept away, like everyone else by Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean’s romantically brilliant ice dance set to Ravel’s Boléro. (I just watched it again courtesy of YouTube, and it still captures my heart.) The routine set off a bit...

As exciting as NBC’s first night of Olympics coverage was — Slopestyle! Evgeni Plushenko! Scott Hamilton yelling! Evgeni Plushenko! The Dufour-Lapointe sisters! Evgeni Plushenko!!! — it was marred by one unfortunate development: Bob Costas’ nasty case of pinkeye. Costas was a trouper to appear onscreen despite his swollen lid… but in the immortal words of Valerie Cherish, after a long day at work, we don’t want to see that.
The obvious solution? A series of festive eyepatches, designed to take advantage of whatever Costas may be reporting on that day (figure skating; gay-rights issues; surprise upset in the Quidditch finals). You know,...

In honor of the Sochi Games, PopWatch is taking a look back at a few of our favorite Winter Olympics-themed movies. First up: The Cutting Edge, the classic 1992 “hockey player meets figure skater” romantic comedy. We talked to star D.B. Sweeney — who played cocky ex-hockey star Doug Dorsey, opposite Moira Kelly’s snooty ice queen Kate Moseley — about the making of the film, the impossible physics of its climactic bounce-spin-throw (the “Pamchenko”), and its truly wretched sequels. Toe pick!
Entertainment Weekly: First of all: Do you resent people still asking you about The Cutting Edge?
D.B. Sweeney: No, it’s great.

Today, the Sochi Olympics officially opens. (Watch the opening ceremony tonight at 7:30 p.m. Et on NBC.) But with competition getting underway yesterday, perhaps your Olympics has already begun. Finish this sentence: My Olympics begins when…
For me it’s when…. figure skating commentator Scott Hamilton admittedly gets a little too excited in the booth. It happened yesterday during the team figure skating event when Japan’s Yuzuru Hanyu stole the men’s short program with a showstopper (watch it here) that had his fellow competitors standing and Hamilton referring to his triple lutz-triple toe combination as “sick,” before...

For longtime figure skating fans, the team figure skating event debuting at the Sochi Olympics on Feb. 6, 8, and 9 is the best thing to happen since Ice Wars. Here’s how it works:
The competition begins Thursday with 10 countries. Each nation picks one man, woman, pairs team, and ice dancing couple to represent them in the short program/dance. To keep it interesting, points aren’t determined by adding their combined scores. There’s a ranking system: The top-scoring man earns 10 points for his country, the next highest man nine, and so on down the line. The top-scoring pairs team earns 10 points for their country,...

“I don’t think she is going to be able to travel,” said NBC Olympics executive producer Jim Bell today of skier Lindsey Vonn joining the network’s coverage of the Winter Olympics next month in Sochi, Russia. However, Vonn could show up on NBC in some form or another, Bell said. “We have been in discussions,” he said of Vonn, who had to drop out of the Games due to a knee injury. When pressed whether she would be on-air, Bell stoically replied “maybe.” Bell also noted during a call with reporters today that he wasn’t worried that the absence of the high-profile Vonn — a gold medalist at the 2010 Vancouver Games and now a pop culture staple — would lead to a lack of viewer interest in U.S. participants. “There are plenty of established stars to go round, like Shaun White,” he said. “And there are always the unknowns.

Everyone is talking about the 2014 Sochi Olympic figure skaters - past gold medalists included. Four of America's most celebrated skaters - Apolo Ohno, Kristi Yamaguchi, Scott Hamilton and Dorothy Hamill - glided over to Parade to share their Winter Olympics experiences. As gold medalists, this group knows what it takes to win, and what to expect once the closing ceremony is over. Transitioning from the top of the podium to normal life isn't easy, but then, neither are triple axels. Ohno and Hamilton will serve as analysts at Sochi, but they won't be offering life advice like this. Before the Sochi Games start,...

Gold medalist Evan Lysacek was emotional as he revealed on the Today show on Tuesday that he won't be setting his sights on the Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia, in February. "It's very difficult for me to say that, but my road to Sochi ends here," the figure skater told Matt Lauer. The 28-year-old has been dogged by injuries since winning gold in Vancouver in 2010, and has been undergoing rehab and physical therapy since tearing a labrum in his left hip earlier this year. "The pain has become in recent weeks unmanageable," he admitted, adding that his doctor warned him...

After all of the frenzy of the Six Nations, the Lv= (Anglo-Welsh) Cup reaches its conclusion at 3pm on Sunday. For all those rugby fans suffering from a final Six Nations weekend hangover (in every sense of the word) and are looking to escape the attentions of their mothers, the match at Sixways promises to be a cracker.
Despite all of their success in recent years, this will be the first time that the Saints and Tigers will have met in a major domestic final, which is sure to add something extra to the game. Yes, it's our morbid curiosity about what might go wrong that draws us to "Swts." Though, after the premiere, it looks as though we'll also have some rather exciting performances to look forward to -- while we wait for carnage.
So what do we have to say of this first taste of skating? Let's break it down couple by semi-recognizable couple:
