Sadly, we’re going to be saying goodbye to our favorite CSIs in the Las Vegas Crime Lab once again: CSI: Vegas will not be returning for a fourth season. The third season was a shorter one, and so that played into the way these 10 episodes unfold, as showrunner Jason Tracey told TV Insider in February. “We’ve got two pretty tight serialized arcs that are kind of unfolding,” he’d said at the time, and that likely ruled out any cameos from past CSI shows as well as returning to past cases (including something like Silver Ink from Vegas Season 2). But hey, at least we have Marg Helgenberger for her second season reprising her role of Catherine from the original CSI. Now that we know there are only four episodes left of the series, below, we take a look at two of the major storylines that need to be addressed in them.

The CSI franchise’s return to CBS is coming to an end as CBS on Friday opted not to renew CSI: Vegas for a fourth season.
On Saturday, CSI and CSI: Vegas star Marg Helgenberger who played Catherine Willows for 14 seasons across the original series and the followup, reflected on the cancellation.
“Each & every person involved with the making of this series brought their A game each & every day,” Helgenberger wrote on Instagram next to an on-set photo of the cast. “It was truly a pleasure & honor to work/play alongside such a fun & talented company of story tellers. Immeasurable thanks & gratitude to all for making this experience such a memorable ride. And to all the fans; we did it all for you.”
Lex Medlin, who, like Helgenberger, joined CSI: Vegas as a series regular in Season 2, posted a similar behind-the-scenes cast photo on Ig with a note to fans about the cancellation.

Both “So Help Me Todd” and “CSI: Vegas” have been canceled at CBS, Variety has learned.
“So Help Me Todd” is currently airing its second season at the broadcaster, while “CSI: Vegas” is airing its third. Both shows are scheduled to air their season finales in May, which will now serve as series finales.
The two shows were some of the few CBS shows awaiting words on their fates for next season. The only other CBS shows with pending renewal statuses are “The Equalizer” and “NCIS: Hawai’i.” They are both solid performers, with “So Help Me Todd” averaging 7.7 million viewers an episode in multiplatform Live+35 and “CSI: Vegas” averaging 7.6 million. According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, CBS simply did not have enough room on the schedule to bring them back.
In addition to its many previously announced renewals, CBS already has a number of new shows set to debut next season.

CBS has canceled CSI: Vegas after three seasons and So Help Me Todd after two. The news is not surprising as Deadline revealed earlier this week that both dramas were heavily on the bubble and in grave danger.
That despite CSI: Vegas and So Help Me Todd being solid ratings performers. With the entire CBS schedule doing well this season and three new drama series joining in 2024-25, NCIS: Origins, Matlock and Watson (in addition to a second season of the Australian NCIS: Sydney), the network was faced with painful decisions, and So Help Me Todd and CSI: Vegas are the least watched CBS drama series this spring in both linear and multi-platform ratings.
In most current linear Nielsen viewership (2/12 to date), CSI: Vegas, which improved its time period, is at #21 among all non-sports broadcast programs with 6.234M viewers and So Help Me Todd at #22 with 6.224M. That is more...

CSI: Vegas may have a big problem to solve when it returns for its third season with the matter of whether one of the Crime Lab’s own, Josh Folsom (Matt Lauria), killed the man who murdered his mother. But there are plenty of other stories to tell this season as well. After all, there’s the love triangle he’s in with Allie (Mandeep Dhillon) and Serena (Ariana Guerra). There’s the question of any season-long arcs for the CSIs to tackle. There’s the possibility of anyone or anything from the franchise’s history popping back up. TV Insider got some answers from showrunner Jason Tracey, in addition to teases about how Josh and the team handle him being behind bars when the season begins. Sure, Josh is in this complicated place at the beginning of the season, but there is the matter of that triangle with him,...

‘CSI: Vegas’ First Look! Plus, Josh’s ‘Difficult Position’ Tests ‘Follow the Evidence’ Credo (Photo)
The CSIs may be facing their biggest challenge yet on the CBS sequel series when it returns: figuring out just what happened the night that one of their own, Josh Folsom (Matt Lauria), was arrested for the murder of the man who killed his mother. Well, it’s a good thing they follow the evidence, like the fingerprint you can see on the glass and blood next to it in TV Insider’s exclusive first look at the new art for CSI: Vegas Season 3 (full version below). But that’s easier said than done in the February 18 premiere. Josh being behind bars, as a suspect in the aforementioned murder, will “weigh on him heavily,” CSI: Vegas showrunner Jason Tracey tells us. “He’s in a difficult position because he’s not sure about the culpability of his friend and foster brother Trey [Daniel Di Tomasso], and so he’s keeping...

CSI: Vegas just closed its ongoing silver ink case, which was introduced at the end of Season 1. So now will be seeing strictly cases-of-the-week for the rest of Season 2? “We’ve got some cases, we’ve got another little arc coming to do with — in this season, we’ve seen how difficult it is for Folsom [Matt Lauria], who grew up in Vegas around some very rough stuff, and he’s got some challenging family members and that’s going to come to the fore,” showrunner Jason Tracey recently told TV Insider. “We do have plenty of big cases of the week, but we also have the rumbles of and a ramp-up to a very personal finale and I think it might be time to focus on Folsom.” The aforementioned silver ink case closed out Season 1. Will this spring’s finale (airing May 18) similarly set up a multi-episode case for next year?...

And Greg is certainly one of those,” showrunner Jason Tracey raves to TV Insider. “We wanted to work with him because when we last left him in the original series, he was still a Vegas guy. CSI star Marg Helgenberger has returned to the show’s universe after 10 years – and viewers are overjoyed.
The original cast member, who plays Catherine Willows, recently signed a one-year deal to reprise the role in spin-off CSI: Vegas.
Helgenberger’s presence was very welcome considering the second season began without longtime stars William Petersen and Jorja Fox, who decided not to return for the spin-off’s follow-up.
During Catherine’s time away from the world of CSI, she retired to help mentor women in forensic science.
She explained the reason behind her return to fellow character Maxine (Paula Newsome), stating: “The job is in my blood.”
There appears to be more than meets the eye, though. It emerges that one of the girls Catherine was mentoring has gone missing.

After a decade-long absence from the world of yellow tape and bloody corpses, Marg Helgenberger reprised her role as Catherine Willows Thursday on CBS’ CSI: Vegas. It seems her character’s so-called “retirement” — which involved serving on the board of the Eclipse hotel and mentoring young women in forensic science — wasn’t that fulfilling, so the episode began with her asking Maxine (Paula Newsome) for her old gig back.
Fortunately, there were a couple of job openings since Gil (William Petersen) and Sara (Jorja Fox) were never replaced after leaving at the end of last season. Apparently, the Grissoms are currently on a boat in the Arctic circle but in real life, Petersen only signed for one year on CSI: Vegas while Fox chose not to return for a second season.

Facing an existential threat that could bring down the entire Crime Lab and release thousands of convicted killers back onto the neon-lit streets of Vegas, a brilliant new team of investigators led by Maxine Roby (Paula Newsome) enlisted the help of old friends, Gil Grissom (William Petersen) and Sara Sidle (Jorja Fox), to investigate a case centered around former colleague David Hodges (Wallace Langham). Marg Helgenberger has signed on to return to the CSI franchise. She is set to star in Season 2 of CBS’ CSI: Vegas, reprising her role as Catherine Willows from the original CSI. I hear Helgenberger will be a series regular with a one-year deal.
On CSI: Vegas, Helgenberger succeeds fellow original CSI cast members William Petersen and Jorja Fox who were series regulars in Season 1 of the sequel to the mothership series. Her casting allows CSI: Vegas to maintain its connection to the 2000 series with a beloved original character working alongside the new forensic investigators. With Petersen, Fox and Helgenberger, CSI: Vegas also has set a blueprint for event-izing each season with a different original star, which also fits into the new format of the series as each season is tackling a new serialized mystery.
On CSI: Vegas, Helgenberger joins returning series regular cast members Paula Newsome, Matt Lauria and Mandeep Dhillon.

Marg Helgenberger is eyeing a possible return to the CSI franchise with a reprisal of her role as Catherine Willows, sources tell Deadline. Helgenberg would appear in the upcoming second season of CSI: Vegas, the sequel to the groundbreaking 2000 series, in which Helgenberger starred for the first 12 seasons.

Mel Rodriguez is exiting CBS’ CSI: Vegas as a series regular ahead of Season 2, Deadline has confirmed. He is the latest star to announce his departure following Jorja Fox and William Petersen.
Rodriguez lplayed Chief Medical Examiner Hugo Ramirez in Season 1. It is unknown if he will make occasional appearances in the future.
TV Line was the first to announce Rodriguez’s exit from the sequel to the groundbreaking 2000 series.
Petersen revealed last month that he would not reprise the role of Gil Grissom beyond Season 1’s 10 episodes. He will continue to serve as executive producer of the show’s sophomore season.
This week, Fox confirmed via Twitter that her character Sara Sidle would also not be returning.

CSI: Vegas is going to look different for its second season, and not just because it will be without the two characters connecting it to the original series, Gil Grissom (William Petersen) and Sara Sidle (Jorja Fox). One of the new cast members, Mel Rodriguez (Chief Medical Examiner Hugo Ramirez) will not be returning as a series regular, TVLine reports. It sounds like he could guest star in the future. The new team for the sequel series also includes Paula Newsome as Maxine Roby, Matt Lauria as Joshua Folsom, and Mandeep Dhillon as Allie Rajan. Rodriguez’s exit comes after showrunner Jason Tracey had told TV Insider of his hope to “populate the world [of the morgue] more fully and tell more stories down there” in Season 2 after the finale. That’s “a fascinating place,” he said. “I did a morgue pilot once upon a time and did a lot of research down there.

Jorja Fox’s Sara Sidle will not be back for the second season of CSI: Vegas.
Fox revealed on Twitter that she has decided not to return to the sequel of the classic procedural.
It comes after the show was renewed for a second season in December.
Season one was led by the original series stars William Petersen and Fox. However, Petersen had only signed on to reprise his role as Gil Grissom in the initial 10-episode installment and will only return as an exec producer.
It seems this move has influenced Fox, whose contract had allowed her to continue if she chose to with producers hopeful that she would come back.

Now that we know that there will be a second season of CSI: Vegas, we can start looking ahead (even if it’s not coming for close to a year). Season 1 was 10 episodes, with cases-of-the-week as well as an investigation that kicked off in the premiere and was wrapped up in the finale, just in time to introduce a new mystery. That limited time did also have some effect on the stories they could tell when it came to the characters as they brought back familiar faces (like William Petersen’s Gil Grissom and Jorja Fox’s Sara Sidle) and introduced a new team (led by Paula Newsome’s Maxine Roby). “I will say there’s a lot more story to tell with all these folks that we’re excited to dig into in Season 2,” showrunner Jason Tracey tells TV Insider. “I wouldn’t want to spoil too much too soon,...

If you “follow the evidence”/”let the evidence tell the story”/break out any of Gil’s evidence-loving sayings, it’s clear that CSI: Vegas promoted a kiss that went amiss-ing.
Yes, married forensic whizzes Gil and Sara (played by CSI vets William Petersen and Jorja Fox) did squeeze in a kiss — aboard Gil’s favorite Vegas roller coaster — just before the season faded to black. But a CBS promo for the fourth episode of the season hinted at an earlier instance of intimacy that didn’t actually wind up in the Oct. 28 episode.

Fellow original star, Jorja Fox, has not closed a deal to return, but there's plenty of time between now and production picking up.
Paula Newsome, Matt Lauria, Mandeep Dhillon, and Mel Rodriguez are all locked in to return.

CBS is bringing back the crew from freshman drama “CSI: Vegas” for a second season — but without William Petersen in the cast.
CBS’s renewal of the crime investigation procedural, a sequel to the network’s longrunning hit “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,” comes a week after the Season 1 finale aired on Dec. 8. Season 2 of “CSI: Vegas” is slated to air during the 2022-23 broadcast season.
Petersen, who reprised his role as Gil Grissom from the original “CSI,” will not be on Season 2 of “CSI: Vegas”; he had previously agreed to appear only in the initial 10-episode limited series. However, Petersen will continue to serve as an executive producer for S2. Jorja Fox, who similarly appeared in “CSI: Vegas” in the role of Sara Sidle from the original show, is not confirmed for Season 2 at this point.
“CSI: Vegas” opened a new chapter for the franchise in Sin City — where it all began.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the CSI: Vegas Season 1 finale “Signed, Sealed, Delivered.”] When it comes to evidence vs. the best story, the former will win every time, at least in Sin City. But then in the final scene, we learn there’s a new serial killer in Vegas as someone writes all over the walls of a completely white room. So what’s going on there? When Jorja Fox’s Sara Sidle steps back into the Las Vegas crime lab in the series premiere of “CSI: Vegas,” she can’t help but marvel at what she sees. It is an experience shared by Daniel Holstein, the series’ technical advisor and a retired crime scene analyst.

Holstein was the inspiration for “CSI’s” cornerstone character of Gil Grissom (William Petersen), and he worked as a consultant on the original “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” procedural that became a sleeper smash in its fall 2000 debut on CBS.

Like the Tokyo Olympics and Euro 2020 soccer championships, CSI’s revival tied to the series’ 20th anniversary was delayed by a year amid the pandemic. CBS’ CSI: Vegas, headlined by original stars William Petersen and Jorja Fox, premieres October 6, exactly 21 years to the day after the debut of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, a series that changed the procedural drama genre; created a blockbuster global drama franchise that has amassed $2 billion to date; and helped launch a production company, Jerry Bruckheimer Television, and build a studio, CBS Studios.
While the original series launched with little fanfare on the lower-profile Friday night, the return is being supported across the entire ViacomCBS portfolio with a campaign that includes a list of Anthony Zuiker’s Top 25 CSI episodes on Paramount+, curated by the series’ creator, a virtual scavenger hunt on Instagram, and plans for interactive game play. There is also a CSI: Ride-Along podcast in the works.

“We have a couple more surprises in store. I could probably say that. But the fantastic blend of the original cast members with a brand new, diverse team in 2021 and beyond is such a great treat for the CSI fans and the franchise.

More than two decades ago, “CSI” broke the mold for broadcast police procedurals by following scientific evidence instead of biased or unreliable human testimony. During the 15 years the show was on and the six years since it ended, police work has been put under a much more public microscope with many bad behaviors exposed. In returning to the flagship piece of the franchise, though under a new name, the team behind the show is confronting these concerns head-on.
“CSI: Vegas” centers on a season-long arc in which a beloved former member of the team is accused of faking evidence. Some of his former colleagues, along with new members of the Las Vegas crime lab, work to uncover whether he was framed or whether dozens, if not hundreds, of cases are now tainted.
“It’s an enormous challenge and responsibility,” executive producer Jason Tracey said of doing a police-set series in this landscape.

The world has changed since CSI was last on the air.
That's the main message to take from the trailer for the forthcoming revival, CSI: Vegas.
“Every case, every defendant that was put away with evidence from our lab has been called into question,” says Sara Sidle (Jorja Fox) in the 90-second trailer.
With a series of mistakes being unraveled, it certainly paves the way for a very different series.
The good news is that Gil Grissom (William Petersen) is in demand. He's asked to return to the CSI to see if he's ready to follow the truth again.
CSI: Vegas “opens a brand new chapter in Las Vegas, the city where it all began,” reads the official logline.
