New Blurays to Have iPhone and iPod Touch Interactivity

11 November 2009 6:09 AM, PST | Atomic Popcorn | See recent Atomic Popcorn news »

This is a cool little bit of news.

Universal (and probably all the big guns will follow suit, with the exception of Sony, perhaps) is pairing some of its upcoming Bluray releases with iPhone and iPod Touch apps that will allow for handheld interaction with the film while you are watching it on the screen.

Namely, for Bruno, Funny People, 9, American Pie Presents: The Book of Love, Public Enemies and Inglourious Basterds (which one of these doesn’t seem to fit in?) you’ll be able to access a bunch of features using the new “pocket Blu.” Pocket Blu will access your iPhone’s wifi connection and seamlessly link that to the network connection in the Bluray player itself.

According to the official press release, some of the features available through the pocket Blu app are:

Advanced Remote Control: A sleek, elegant new way to operate your Blu-ray™ player. »

Brad Pitt Desperate for 'Inglourious Basterds' Prequel

11 November 2009 1:49 AM, PST | Celebrity Mania | See recent Celebrity Mania news »

Brad Pitt has expressed his willingness to team up again with director Quentin Tarantino in "Inglourious Basterds" prequel. Eli Roth, Pitt's co-star on the action movie, told E! Online about the actor's hope for another installment for the epic war movie.

"Everybody would drop whatever they're doing to go back to work with Quentin," Roth said at the Hamilton Behind the Camera Awards presented by Movieline.com in Hollywood. "All the time, Brad says, 'Prequel, prequel!' All the 'basterds' would jump on it in a second."

Moreover, Roth claimed he has shot some scenes that will possibly be included in the movie's prequel. "We have three scenes that we shot in Boston that take place before the war, and Quentin says if he does the prequel, he's going to use them. They're not going to be DVD extras," the 37-year-old recalled. "There's a great scene with me and Cloris Leachman. »

Diane Kruger On Unknown White Male: 'Another Accent to Master'

9 November 2009 12:15 PM, PST | Movieline | See recent Movieline news »

After the polyglot heaven that was Inglourious Basterds, many of its actors have become just as well known for their facility with accents and languages as they have for their actual performances. Diane Kruger is no exception -- formerly wasted in arm candy roles, the actress came alive as if for the first time when speaking forceful German and English in Basterds, and now she's bringing that skill set to the upcoming thriller Unknown White Male, starring Liam Neeson and January Jones. »

Nikki and Anna Bring Twilight Sparkle Behind the Camera

9 November 2009 10:00 AM, PST | Popsugar.com | See recent Popsugar news »

Nikki Reed was fresh off her long press weekend supporting New Moon but got dressed up last night to pose with costar Anna Kendrick at MovieLine's Behind the Camera Awards in La. They joined adorable couple Joshua Jackson and Diane Kruger, who's back to focusing on film after her fashion-related party earlier in the week. Nikki and Anna were on hand to honor their special effects editor Susan MacLeod, and Diane came out on behalf of Inglourious Basterds producer Lawrence Bender. Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel, meanwhile, presented their (500) Days of Summer screenwriters with statues. The event was designed to honor those who labor behind the scenes, but the well-dressed ladies couldn't help but take a little bit of the spotlight. Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt Improv 500 Days of Summer Mute Elevator Scene

9 November 2009 10:00 AM, PST | Movieline | See recent Movieline news »

Last night's Hamilton Behind the Camera Awards ceremony was as packed with meta-literal moments as it was with unabashed enthusiasm for the cinema. Onscreen talents such as Jason Bateman, Bill Paxton and Diane Kruger mounted the Highlands stage to thank their behind-the-camera colleagues, who then jumped in front of our cameras to accept their awards. But the most meta moment was claimed when Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt honored screenwriters Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber by ditching their presenter script to improv how 500 Days of Summer would have looked without Neustadter and Weber's screenplay. »

The Movieline/Hamilton Behind the Camera Awards: A Night for Appreciation

9 November 2009 8:45 AM, PST | Movieline | See recent Movieline news »

There aren't many Hollywood events where you might spot Hitchcockian goddess Tippi Hedren, Austrian cinematographer Christian Berger and legendary costume designer Ann Roth strolling the red carpet alongside the ravishing Diane Kruger (with date Joshua Jackson on her arm), the fierce Zoe Saldana, and (500) Days of Summer's fractious -- but pretty damn cute -- couple, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel. But then there aren't many ceremonies like the Hamilton Behind the Camera Awards -- an event expressly mounted to recognize the achievements of cinema craftsmen and professionals whose work is too often glossed over every awards season. »

Men, if you find yourself forced into watching “Twilight” or “New Moon”, don’t panic.  There is a way to survive.  Be on the lookout for Ashley Greene, who plays some vampire lady, I wasn’t really paying attention because her character is not the point.  The point is Ashley Greene is jaw-droppingly attractive and every time the camera looks at her the suffering momentarily ends.  She is the life-saver which you must cling to for dear life.  At the end of it all, you will thank the gods and the casting director for putting her in that franchise.

Today we have news that she’ll be starring in Dark Castle’s upcoming horror movie “The Apparition”, which means you won’t spend time between scenes praying she’ll show up.  You just get to gaze upon her and let your adulation creep out others around you.  Hit the jump to go Greene. »

Where We're At: Supporting Actress

29 October 2009 8:59 AM, PDT | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

We haven't seen anything yet. Or not much of it at least. Particularly when it comes to Oscar's Supporting Actress race. With so many presumed giants on their way whose cast lists tilt female (Nine, The Lovely Bones, Up in the Air, Precious) it's quite possible that not one future Oscar nominee has arrived in theaters yet. That's kind of a shame for those of us who enjoy actresses year round.

If you had a ballot sitting in front of you right now, for example, and the only films that were eligible were films that had already opened (at least on the coasts -- we'll cheat and include next week's Precious) which supporting performances would be on your ballot? The pickings might be arguably slim but I'd probably choose from these ten. Which boxes would you check off?

Does Nic Cage have the kavorka?

28 October 2009 11:40 AM, PDT | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

Nicolas Cage sometimes gets a bad rap. Yes, he's an Oscar winner, but his eclectic taste in movies has often drawn criticism, most famously from Sean Penn, who once accused Cage of s-tting on their profession. Say what you want about The Wicker Man or Bangkok Dangerous, but Cage is either the savviest or most fortuitous operator in Hollywood when it comes to his female costars. Yesterday's announcement that Mad Men's January Jones will costar opposite Cage in The Hungry Rabbit Jumps was only the most recent example. January Jones Jumps With Nicolas Cage

28 October 2009 5:03 AM, PDT | Atomic Popcorn | See recent Atomic Popcorn news »

Just last week January Jones revealed that, while they were dating, Ashton Kutcher told her he didn’t think she’d be any good at the acting biz, and that she should call it quits.

Well, Jones certainly wasn’t deterred by the lack of support from Kutcher. Already having cemented her place as a TV starlet with her role on Mad Men, Jones is ready to take on the big screen.

Before making a name for herself with Mad Men, Jones had supporting roles in numerous movies including Love Actually, American Wedding, and Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights. Jones has moved past being a supporting actress, signing on for starring roles in two films in the past week.

Last week Jones signed on for Dark Castle’s Unknown White Male with Liam Neeson and Diane Kruger, and it has now been revealed that she will also be starring with Nicolas Cage in Hungry Rabbit Jumps, »

January Jones to star with Nicolas Cage in Hungry Rabbit Jumps

28 October 2009 4:06 AM, PDT | The Scorecard Review | See recent Scorecard Review news »

January Jones is hot. I mean she’s a popular actress getting many opportunities to continue working … and she’s hot.

The “Mad Men” star has signed on to star opposite Nicolas Cage in the dramatic thriller Hungry Rabbit Jumps. Roger Donaldson (The Bank Job) is directing. I look forward to hearing what the name of the movie will eventually be … that title won’t stick, right?

The movie is about a man becomes wrapped up with an underground vigilante organization after his wife is the victim of a brutal crime. Maybe they got the idea from Law Abiding Citizen.

Last week, Jones signed on to star with Liam Neeson and Diane Kruger in Unknown White Male.
